Electronic devices shook the developed world with the development, expansion, and recent advancement of such devices. The use of electronic devices strengthens the most important aspects of our experiences and relationships. This idea is best supported by many uses of electronic devices, predominantly communication. The reason communication, the fundamental feature of electronic devices, is so beneficial to our most important aspects of our experiences and relationships is that communication is a central aspect to those same experiences and relationships. The benefits electronic devices provides, through communication, is greatly expanded when looking to the extremely wide numbers of users of these electronic devices. Electronic devices have become so easily accessible, it has become a part of many people’s identities and takes part in almost everybody’s life, so that the specific benefits of communication become exponentially strengthened by how much more communication can take place. Communication, along with the conventional use of the term, can mean the communication of information, and the use of electronic devices further allow individuals to attain information much easier and thus can make experiences much more ideal when there can be a clear understanding of what is truly going on in the world. This use of electronic devices to expand knowledge and education, coupled with the already prevailing understanding communication already is – and how electronic devices allow for communication to be strengthened that way – makes it clear that the use of electronic devices reinforce our most important aspects of our experiences and relationships. The importance of communication to our experiences and relationships seems almost i... ... middle of paper ... ...ips, in not only the conventional use of communication (talking, conversing, etc.) but also the educational aspects of communication (spreading and sharing of information and ideas) then all that is needed left is to explain the vital ways electronic devices support communication in the strongest way. The calls and text messages allow communication to not be confined to physical presence, and also allow communication to occur more rapidly than mail, thus supporting the conventional use of the definition of communication. The internet also supported the educational use of communication through news outlet websites, online encyclopedias, social media, and the overall media. All of this, plus the large portion of the population electronic devices help, all support why use of electronic devices strengthens the most important aspects of our experiences and relationships.
...helle Hackman, a sophomore in high school, realized that her friends, rather than engaging in a conversation, were “more inclined to text each other” (Huffington Post). Michelle also became aware that over forty percent of people were suffering from anxiety when they were separated from the phones. This clearly shows that we are connected to the technology that we use, but we are also suffering from the use of technology. We spend more than half of our entire day using some sort of technology, whether that is a computer, phone, television, or radio. Technology is becoming a prevalent part of our lives, and we cannot live without it. Technology has become our family, and part of us.
Since the Internet has emerged from society, access to information has been made readily available for anyone to discover. The Internet connects us to the world everyday, whether at work or at home. It helps us communicate with others; via email, social networking, or blogging. With the absents of the Internet, our society would be missing out on a vast amount of knowledge. Therefore, the Internet is unmistakably beneficial for society to use as part of their daily lives. Also, cell phones have evolved from being solely in place for emergencies, to searching the Internet and paying bills. People of all ages are using cell phones, whether for work or pleasure. There are so many technological devices in our society; however, this technology can be misleading. People voice numerous arguments, both beneficial and non beneficial- concerning technologies in our world.
Technology has always been at the forefront of the world’s mind, for as long as anyone can remember. The idea of “advancing” has been a consistent goal among developers. However, recently the invention of smartphones broke out into the world of technology, causing millions of people to become encapsulated in a world of knowledge at their fingertips. Jean Twenge elaborates on the impacts of the smartphone on the younger generation in her article “Has the Smartphone Destroyed a Generation?” Twenge’s article is just a sliver of the analysis that she presents in her book “IGen.” Twenge, a professor of psychology at San
The topic of technology and our society has become a very controversial subject today. Many people believe that technology is an essential component of our modern world, helping us to improve communication from farther distances as well as giving us easy access to important information. On the other hand, there is the opinion that too much technology is affecting social interactions and our basic development. “Technology…is a queer thing, it brings you great gifts with one hand, and stabs you in the back with the other.” (Carrie Snow.) The CBC Documentary “Are We Digital Dummies” displayed the pros and cons when it comes to modern technology that we use in the western world everyday.
Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway is a short story about a couple contemplating on whether or not to have an abortion. The two are at a train station drinking beer and waiting for their train to come. In the story, the man wants the girl to get an abortion saying it will be an easy and quick procedure. However, the readers can tell that the girl is not too fond of the idea of getting an abortion. Throughout the story the couple tries to talk about the problem but their conversation seems to go nowhere. They go back and forth saying that they just want the other one to be happy. There is an irony in the story of these two characters as their relationship begins to “deteriorate,” compared to the “unity portrayed in the river, mountains, and fields” (Maynard). The woman begins to see the “selfishness of the man” and that is when the readers see that she has made up her mind to keep the child” (Maynard). Even though the readers have a good understanding of what each character wants, neither of them come out and say what they have decided. Once their train arrives the two part ways. No clear decision was ever made but the readers have a good idea that the couple most likely separated and the girl probably kept her baby. Hemingway stresses how important communication is in relationships through this story. The couple in the story obviously did not communicate very well, therefore, their relationship did not last. Relationships are built on communication and if a couple cannot communicate then the relationship will not last. Hemingway portrayed a couple who failed at communicating through three different ways. Location, time, and degree of relationship are all factors that affect communica...
...ss social. Our amount of social skills has gone way down over the years. The lawyers and doctors do not have as high of education and the way they interact is not as good. When we talk through messages, it causes conflict resolution, which causes war. What has this world come to, so many kids bring their cell phones to school which distracts them from learning. It is up to the parents to teach their kids the importance of using face to face communication. We cannot back down; limit the amount of electronics they use. We need to make the world more educated with our social skills. If we do not we will begin to rely just on electronics. Connecting through electronic media will never be a satisfactory replacement. “No amount of texting, or blogging or Facebook is as satisfying as a walk in the park with a good friend. Why? Because it is simply our nature” (Stitch 3).
Be that as it may, the smartphone changes our culture and our life as a whole which causes an impact on the older generation and the younger generation. As smartphone improves our communication and interaction with our friends, our families and relatives, or other peoples around the world, the smartphone creates disconnection, and degrades the social interaction around themselves. Although there are advantages and disadvantages of the smartphone that impact our culture, the smartphone improves our communication with other people. It is possible that “many of our cultures values will continue to change as our society becomes more dependent on technology.” (Zackary, 2015) To conclude, the communication technology such as smartphone indeed affects our culture as a whole in many
“We barely have time to pause and reflect these days on how far communicating through technology has progressed. Without even taking a deep breath, we’ve transitioned from email to chat to blogs to social networks and more recently to twitter” (Alan 2007). Communicating with technology has changed in many different ways. We usually “get in touch” with people through technology rather than speaking with them face to face. The most popular way people discuss things, with another individual, is through our phones. Phones have been around way before I was born in 1996, but throughout the years, they have developed a phone called a “smart phone”. The smart phone has all kinds of new things that we can use to socialize with our peers. On these new phones, we can connect with our friends or family on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Technology has also developed Skype, a place you can talk with people on the computer with instant voice and video for hours. The new communication changes have changed drastically from the new advances made in technology through our smart phones, social networking sites, and Skype.
The standard 21 year old adults have exchanged 250 thousand emails, spent 5 thousand hours video gaming and 10 thousand hours using their mobile devices (Lei, 2009). When people hear the word technology, they think of microwaves, televisions, cars, NASA, different types and transportation and more. For all that, technology has occurred long ahead these discoveries. Technology is an arguable matter amongst people. .In the old days, people lived an extremely simple life without technology. They used candles to light their houses and lanterns at the dark to travel, they used fire to cook and used newspapers and mail to share news. On the other hand, technology has seized an important place in our society. People are living in a stage of progressive technology. They are using all natural reserves applicable for making their lives better and easier. The society cannot picture life without electricity since it allows them to live through their everyday life. This paper argues that technology positively impacts people’s lives.
Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share our interest, concerns, support each other; organize our lives and make decisions; and it allows us to work together. Effective communication is based on the way we talk and listen, how we respond and our body language. We can all learn how to improve the way we communicate.
Today is an era of information explosion. In the past few years, many newly invented technological devices and software are now tightly integrated with our everyday lives. Today, people can look up almost any kind of information, make friends, communicate with others, and express ourselves with the simple touch of a button on a device we usually keep within arm’s reach. “Widespread use of technology is changing the way we work, learn, and communicate – even the way we carry out our regular, daily activities.”(Seifer and Mihalynuk) These devices not only benefit our livelihoods and increase our happiness, but they are also integral in advancing education, technology, development, and, in general, human evolution. The children of today, who have been raised in this era of information explosion, will undoubtedly reap such benefits and, in turn, advance society towards a better generation.
You will see this technology everywhere you go at any time of the day. Our culture enjoys the advanced methods of communication our modern technology has offered. Although this breakthrough in technology has given us many ways to communicate, we have lost the ability of interaction with each other. These devices have created a society that can not put down their devices and enjoy the world around them.
People in the present society have turned from the use of the old means of communication to the more advanced and technological ways of communicating. Technology has made it easier for people to communicate in a faster, efficient, and cost saving means through the introduction of the communication channels. The world has turned out to be the centre for technology with different technologies emerging daily as the people continue to develop from time to time to cope with the growing technology. The benefits of adopting the communication technology are explained in this article which shows why people do not function without technology.
Communication is one of the most important factors in our lives. It dictates the relationships formed with the individuals in personal and professional lives. Effective communication provides a foundation for trust and respect to grow. It also helps better understand a person and the context of the conversation. Individuals often believe that their communication skills are much better than what they actually are. Communication appears effortless; however, much of what two people discuss gets misunderstood, thus leading to conflicts and distress. To communicate effectively, one must understand the emotion behind the information being said. Knowing how to communicate effectively can improve relationships one has at home, work and in social affairs. Understanding communication skills such as; listening, non-verbal communication and managing stress can help better the relationships one has with others.
