Communication is the ability to relay information from one person to another. I use communication on a daily basis. I use communication at home, during school, during sports, and at the fire department. Communication is a crucial component to success in the work place. If used properly, communication can be a great tool.
In the fire service communication can be the difference between life and death. Communication is a vital component in saving lives, if used incorrectly the results could be serious injury or death. There are classes and training sessions on communicating properly. When a directive is given by an officer, the recipient of the directions then repeats the directive back to the officer. This not only reassures the officer that said person received the directions, but it gives the officer the ability to hear what he said in case he needs to change something. Even during drills we use communication, we use it when we are checking all of the equipment and making sure it is up to DPSST and OSHA standards. I also use communication everyday during school.

The important entities needed for a successful communication includes; a sender, receiver, message and feedback. First, the sender is a person or entity that is sending information to the receiver. After receiving the message, the receiver will attempt to decode the message and prepares a proper response (feedback).
