Wearing clothing that mostly shows skin is seducing and provocative, however on a teen not so much! Some people think it’s cute and others see it as inappropriate. Today’s society, an individual is ignorant, careless, and a copycat. This is common between parents and teenagers. As well as the villagers and the black box from The Lottery. Could the story of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson informing one to have an open mindset, to speak and stand for what those are saying. Is this a wake up call? For an individual to change.

In the passage, the black box represents the lottery, whom draws a strip with a black dot wins! Not so easy there, there winning a prize sentencing their own death. Tessie on the other hand was the lucky individual to get the strip with the black dot which soon after she will be stoned to death. It signifies evil in this world. How crazy it is to let this tradition continue years after years. No person seems to challenge it, Tessie did at the end that it was not fair. But would she have said the same if it was someone else? All the villagers, and her friends no one seem to stand with her that it wasn’t right. The villagers seemed well approved of what was going to happen next. Similarity to, young teens the black box represents hungry men, and perpetrators. Not having the knowledge of right from wrong can lead to bad situations. Shirley Jackson describes how Tessie’s family soon turns their back against her when she had the strip with the black dot. Tessie’s children laugh with relief when they saw that they didn’t have the strip with the black dot. However, they showed no worried that one of their parents might have it. Bill Hutchinson (Tessie husband) went over to Tessie and forced the slip of paper out of her hand, and held it up towards the crowd. Afterwards Mr. Summers said, “Let’s finish quickly.” Everyone gather together against Tessie ready to stone her. Including her own family. This shows how Tessie family had no remorse of stoning her or letting other stone her. No one in her family stood up to defend her, to stop them from killing their mother or Bill’s wife. Bill Hutchinson must have loved the tradition more than his wife because they betray their own kind. Bill cared more for what Mr. Summers had to say because he obeyed him quickly. Comparing towards young teens could their parents possibly be warning them of wearing inappropriate clothing? That they could be misjudged in public. The teens are not listening to them more so to social media. Going against their parents’ wishes. In society, one must be coherent of their love ones and respect
