I am so thankful for a Dad who lives his life to glorify God. You are known, loved, and respected by thousands of people around the world. It is a privilege to be one of only three people who get to call you “Dad.” And out of those three, I have the honor of being your only daughter. You have been my constant source of encouragement, support, safety, guidance, and wisdom. You fill my life with fun adventures and care about my dreams. The health of our family is a result of your intentional leadership. Never once have I felt neglected by you. Instead, you welcome me into every part of your life. When I was too young to be in school, you’d take me along to lunch meetings, and allowed me to help you with projects at church. You celebrated when I accepted Jesus into my heart and baptized me at a summer pool party when I was eight. During my elementary years, I loved having your full …show more content…
Going to the Purpose Driven Church conference in Jr. High ignited my passion for serving. Thank you for valuing my gifts and talents at such a young age. Your support set the trajectory of my life. Teaching in RBfK and playing in the youth band when I was 12 led me to start a student small group and play with the worship team during weekend services. During high school, you answered my hard questions, helped me find tutors, drove me to Harrisonville for tests, and cheered me on as I prepared for the GED. Sharing an office with you gave me an opportunity to become familiar with the soundtrack of every John Wayne movie that exists. After high school, you sat through orientation meetings at Longview, drove all the way to Birmingham to check out Highlands College, helped me enroll in UMKC, and invested thousands of dollars in my education. When I felt overwhelmed and scared, your encouragement and excitement forced me to stop and recognize all that I had
It is gratifying to know that you are finally on an Honor Flight; a much deserved token of respect for your service! Hopefully, it proves to be a source of wonderful memories for years to come.
On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank all of you for your compassion and for being present here today. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Mauri-Lynne, and I'm Lionel's daughter. Dad was devoted to every one of you. We all hope that you'll share your memories of him with us, if not today then in the weeks and months to come.
You have always been there for me and helped me though good times and bad especially in my younger days.
On behalf of my family, I want to thank you all for joining us here today to celebrate John’s long and amazingly fruitful life—a life of love extended, commitments kept, and faith observed.
You came into my life and changed me forever. Over the years people have complimented me for being a good mother but I can't take credit for that. You were born good and you were the one who was often teaching me. I believe you are an angel God sent to teach me. You taught me love. You taught me honesty. You taught me how to forgive and how to be strong. You are the strongest person I have ever known and you gave me strength when I was weak. When times were sad and tough I looked to you for strength. You taught me how to be myself. Most of all you taught me about life and how to live.
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I hope that you are all having a wonderful night so far, but it’s time that we get down to business. Tonight we are here to honor a guest who has not only contributed greatly to entertainment but also has a paved a new way of learning for many of the younger generation. Our of guest of honor, at only thirty-six years old, has achieved things that some of us could only dream of doing in a hundred years. At nineteen, our guest wrote the first draft of his first musical, In The Heights, which would go on to earn four Tony awards and even a Grammy in 2008. His achievements wouldn’t stop there, as like the subject of his next musical, Hamilton, “the man is Non-Stop!” Hamilton, which has become an international
It just might feel unbelievable that we are really here today for this reason of saying our Earthly goodbye to Dave Thomas to your husband, dad, grandpa, and friend. Yet here we are…and today we want to celebrate a life that touched so many. This illness yes, was not fair, was beyond frustrating, but Dave was so much more than this illness.. Mary, Davey, And Pam, we will not pretend that everything is just fine.
I trust in your decisions for our family, and look to the future you are helping build for us. When I am sick, you care for me with such tenderness. In times of frustrations, you demonstrate a calm to us all that is to be marveled. You have supported me through some extremely tough times and have allowed me to cry as you lay hands on me and pray it through when I had no strength left in me. Never hesitant to get up late and bring a hungry baby to me, or change their diaper, or rock them
You made a difference in so many people's lives, that's more than most people can say in a lifetime, and you crammed it all in to a far too brief two years. I still can't believe you left us a few days ago, My Heart aches every single day. From the moment my eyes open in the morning until I drift off to sleep at night. I am hurting so much. I miss your smile, and your laughter.
I have always tried to be a model for you of what it is to be a good wife. I was Married for 32 years. I would like to give you some advice and I hope you will take it to heart. It comes from deep inside my soul.
First of all, I am thankful for my mother. This seems very generic and kind of boring but it’s true. My mom always tried to push me towards my dad because she thought she might die first. She has to take care of me now as a lone mother and she tries her hardest. My mom may be disabled, but she tries!
In 1992 we had to move to Plant City for his work. This is where I believe there was a providential moment where I met my life long friend Scott McIntosh who invited my to church at the First Baptist Church of Plant City. This would change my life as I was struggling with the move to a new city during the beginning of my adolescence, leaving ten year old friendships behind. Once again the church was there for me, this time in the form of a youth group. It was here were I started to understand what it meant to have a servants heart!
I love you for that. I only hope to be half the man that you are when I’m a father. The qualities that everyone seems to love about our family, is from all of us. But it is you that started the family. Dad, you taught me patience.
As I was an only child I got to spend a lot more time with him. Looking back I really do appreciate the time I got to spend with him. From as young as I can remember I looked up to my dad. I wanted to be just like him.
Good Morning, Each morning I awake and before I start anything, I talk to my Father. Today was an especially emotional conversation. We all experience struggles daily. Each of these struggles we may attempt to weigh the options and make the best decision we can based on our knowledge of business, parenting, finance, our health, etc. I, like everyone else, face these same struggles.
