Another reward is building friendships with others, either friends from my country or friends from USA, or friends from other nationalities. I have traveled to many places from east to the west of the world, but none of these places are similar to the US. This is a big thing to me, because I believe when a person travels to another country where totally another culture practiced there, it will positively influence him or her because of the impact it will take. To me, I found myself now being a different person than what I was 4 years ago. What is around me is a big influence on me. Moving to another country where it is way different from my background, gives me a better picture of how I perceive other actions and reactions of people, because now, I understand how the culture affects a person and affects the lifestyle of him or her. I remember one time , I awaked up at 12pm and I was hungry, it was the football week in the College I used to study there before Platteville, so iwent to the stadium and I saw a cafeteria over there, I stooped and asked the casher “ do you guys accept credit card ?” he said “ we only do cash” a mother of a student where saided to me with her children told me “ you don’t have cash” I told her “ I only have a credit card” then she said “ your are age of my san here in the university, let me buy what you want” she was so generous with me and she bought me hotdogs and soda. Growing up in a developing country has really open up my mind about setting up for a better future. My home in El Salvador wasn't the most lavishness, but it's also not the worst. I grew up in a house with two levels; three bedrooms on the top floor, one on the bottom, a garage and laundry room at the lower level, and a small sale shop at the front of the house. Growing up in this home has been a meaningful place for me. Its where I found my sense of place.
It has been about a year since I left America. Upon graduation I got a lot of decent offers from American firms, but I stuck to my decision. I came home, and took up a job in my home town. Sounds like I cut myself a bad deal? If you could see the smile on my face right now, you would know my answer.

It is through the events in the journey of life that shapes and molds who we are as people. As for me, immigrating to America was one of those milestones that have shaped who I am. Have you ever thought about studying abroad? No, not just for a few months for your work-experience, but a whole year (or longer) as a transfer-student. Of course, you don’t make such a decision from one minute to the next. It needs to be thought over well. Going to college is a big change in your life because it usually means living on your own for the first time, but as a foreign student it is even a bigger change because you are on your own in another country. This is often the greatest concern for students to go abroad: to leave everything behind. They have trouble leaving their family and the familiar environment. They think this price is just too high. But if they only knew how rich they will be when they come back.
This previous summer I received the chance to go on a breathtaking trip to Europe. I have relatives in Europe that I have not been able to see in five years. In just thirty days my family and I visited Germany and Bosnia. Germany is a beautiful country that has a completely different way of life than America, from the way people dress to the way they act there is a very big culture gap. When I visited Bosnia it opened my eyes to the world, and I realized not everyone has the same opportunities I have here in America. I feel like this trip I took this summer showed me that I should be thankful for all that my parents have done for my brother and I to have a better life and future here in America. I also feel like I should try harder to stay in contact with my family that lives overseas because even though they are thousands of miles away they are still family who cares and yearns for my presence.
I always want to be an international student because I believe that learning in different surroundings will offer me a chance to explore the world. In order to become one, I have been preparing myself for this upcoming challenge. Long years of studying and paying most of my attention to school work made me wonder whether it is worthwhile to spend so much time on textbooks and became curious about what it is like to study in another country. In 2011, I seized the opportunity provided by my senior high school and became an exchange student in the U.S. . I didn’t fit in perfectly in the beginning, but throughout my exchange year, I had learned to adapt m...
