What is the Columbian drug cartel? It is an illegal trade involving criminal groups of producing and distributing illegal drugs. These cartels illegally smuggled in large amounts of cocaine and other drugs. Two men joined together and flew cocaine into the United States by using small airplanes. Since cocaine is shipped to every nation and the profits are high, these cartels have enough money to make bigger and more sophisticated cocaine labs. These cartels are so major that some DEA agents believe that people are still running the cartels from their jail cells. There are many stories claiming that some people wrap up drugs in layers of condoms, swallow it, and then get on an airplane to go to another country for the drug dealers. This …show more content…

Pablo was known to have a violent record even before he was part of the cartel. Pablo was the wealthiest criminal alive. Pablo’s net worth in the early 90’s was estimated $30 million. The Columbian cartel was present from 1972-1993. Drugs were smuggled into every country because the cartel paid the Columbian government to be quiet about the drug trade. Coffee is their number one shipment out to other countries. Number 2 is cocaine. The Columbian cartel supplied 84-90% of cocaine to the United States, and 80% globally. There were plenty of drug groups mainly located in America, Canada, and Europe. In 1993 the cartel was investigated and “shut down.” In my opinion, I thought it was really cool learning about how cartels work. I think that smuggling is bad and it hurts our country, and causes more drug problems. I was very surprised that Columbian cartels aren’t as violent as I thought they were going to be. I think that it’s really messed up that the government was trying to protect the cartel because the cartel paid the government off.
