Climate Influence on Colombian Agriculture

The country of Colombia resides in northwestern South America. Colombia is the only country in South America with a coast on the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean. The landscape and climate of Colombia offer wide range change. Beginning with snow-capped mountains in the Andes Mountains to the hot lowland plains. Colombia's population is larger in some areas and smaller in others. The climate difference in Colombia is a major problem for farmers. They are unable to grow crops such as: Coffee, rice, bananas, and potatoes. The economy is dependent on the agriculture. Nowadays, the agriculture of Colombia is much more diverse ever since the mid 1900's (World Book. 778).

Being a Catholic dominated country, the more valued celebrations are around Christmas and Easter. Out of all twelve months, December is the month to celebrate in the most, such as the Festival of Cali, a five day festival held between Christmas and new years day. (latintarvelguide.com). In December, Epiphany/Dia de Reyes is their national holiday that marks the end of their Christmas holiday season. This traditional day, is set as the day for gift giving. Every town in the country makes up an outstanding show of celebrations.

Throughout history you can clearly see the many different races of people such as: African, European, and Native American. Colombia is very boastful in its heritage, and so it should be." Colombia consists of over eighty-seven ethnic groups which acquire for one point five percent of Colombia's total population and they have sixty-four different native languages. Millions of Afro-Colombians make up for almost sixteen percent of Colombia's population. Over thirty million mestizos inhabit an immense variety of the native traditions, and almost twelve thousand gypsies that descended from colonial times, and several non-traditional immigrant groups in different regions of the country."(colombiaemb.org)

Colombia is a vast country with very unique traditions, life styles, and people. Although it is an odd and at times a dangerous place to be depending on where you are located within the country, Colombia has beautiful and architectural back ground that amazes travelers from around the globe. It has a history so deep, heartwarming, and beautiful, those who visit Colombia find it a wonderful and exciting adventure, with all sorts of new things to try. Colombia, a proud and historic
