If someone had the case of the “whoopie doopies’’ also known as whooping cough or pertussis, you might want to go get yourself checked out (cdc). Pertussis is a highly contagious disease that spreads very quickly even though a single drop of liquid. This disease mostly happens in young infants or small toddlers. Its really dangerous for a small child under a month to get this disease. Pertussis mostly happens in a small child or infant.Pertussis, or also known as whooping cough is mostly a cough that a person gets. Most of the people who get this disease can have long terms effects such as the symptoms that they will get, but there are some things that can cure those long terms symptoms.

These symptoms can last from days through weeks through months.There are different stages to the symptoms of pertussis , most “[doctors] found that symptoms most commonly [start] 7 days after “ getting the virus (pg.225 cdc , immunize). There is the Catarrh stage that where the symptoms can be just like the flu. A runny nose, headaches ,really low fevers, watery eyes, etc.There is the paroxysmal stage which the symptoms can last up to 1-6 weeks which the person can have rapid coughs and at the end the person will just have long inhaling. This stage will be leaving small children very distressed and also very ill. This stage can lead to the child to vomit and turn a certain color such as blue. last stage would be the convalescent stage that can usually last up to months which lead the person's cough to a horrendous respiratory infection. However, this stage can still make the person able to spread the disease. Even though the symptoms can be unpleasant there are thing to treat pertussis.
There are vaccinations you can get as an infant or a small child. The child should get the vaccine starting at 2 months. These vaccinations are given to the person before they develop the disease.. These vaccinations can be given on the thigh muscle for young infants and toddlers . These vaccinations are 95% effective to the person. This disease, “ pertussis,has been conquered by immunization” which you can get at any clinic or doctor's office (pg 1 cdc , immunize) . These vaccines are mostly given to fight off the bacteria that's inside the body. There are also boosters the person should keep up with so they won't catch it again. There are also antibiotics which a person can take. These antibiotics are given as pills or even in liquid form. These antibiotics are also given to the person who is caring for the patient. If someone has gotten this disease,pertussis, then that person would have to be on bed rest and they would have to drink a lot of liquids. If the person had gotten pertussis once they might be able to catch it a second time
again. On a more personal level, small infants are also able to develop the cough such as Peyton, a six week old newborn. Whooping cough has “cause [Peyton] to has severe coughing attacks” following by him struggling on catching or taking a breathe(Garner, Aleysha, National Foundation For Infectious Diseases). Peyton has made high-pitched noises from every attack that he has . This is really common in pertussis to happen. With these attacks there also comes along certain coloration in the child's face. Making them turn purple. As for the future of this disease, there are many complications. Such as the person might able to catch pertussis again or even die from this disease . A small infant does have a greater chance at death if they catch it at and don't realize. As the child gets younger “complication increase” making it difficult for the patient to breathe (pg.1 cdc immunize.org). There are also aids for this disease such as the antibiotics or the vaccinations a doctor can give. Vaccinations have to be kept up to date for a greater chance for them at not catching the disease .Helping the patient to feel much more better and healthier for their own good.
