Practicing for 3-4 hours a day, doing schoolwork, and going to classes is a hard and complicated life that not everyone can do. That’s why college athletes are inspiring because they can handle all of this stress from school, but they still manage to play their hardest in the game they love. These college athletes have worked hard to get where they are, but they still have to work harder and that’s why there are debates on whether the colleges or the NCAA should pay their athletes. The idea that they should get paid is ridiculous because there are other opportunities that these athletes receive, that most students wish they could afford. The main reason why college athletes should still be playing in college is because they love the game enough to continue to push themselves hard and achieve greatness through sports. The idea of paying these athletes will ruin that image of playing the game you love at a more competitive level. Only 7% of high school athletes get to play in college and out of that 7%, only 2% of those athletes actually get to play at D1 schools. For them to get paid would only tarnish the image that the NCAA has set up for years. An example of a corrupt athlete getting paid is Reggie Bush. When he was in high school, colleges gave him expensive gifts so that he would pick their school. This corrupted his intentions to just play the game he loved because he wanted to play it, not because colleges are giving him gifts and potentially paying him to play. The college level and the pro level should be separate, but the thought of paying these athletes would only combine them.
