College Admissions Essays - I would be a good teacher because... I would be a good teacher because I am passionate about the field of education. After my student teaching experience, I can truly say that I love what I am doing and want to continually improve myself in order to better educate my students. My passion for learning has transposed itself into a passion for teaching as well; I want my students to know the joy of learning and find a passion of their own to develop. My role in this process can be great as I have the ability to introduce new ideas and new situations to the students. The ensuing journey is one that can be influential to students as they are allowed the chance to navigate and make choices for themselves. I would be a good teacher because I relinquish some control in order to allow the students to mature on their own. This added responsibility is beneficial for the students in their growth, but also allows the students' individuality to be showcased. When done carefully, self esteem and confidence grows, as does the feeling of community within the classroom. I have found that knowing students on an individual basis is the key to helping them reach their potential. As the whole student is taught, issues regarding discipline are better handled and the classroom becomes an arena where students begin to feel comfortable taking risks. Throughout my education, I have always looked at the characteristics of a good teacher. Upon exiting my student teaching, I can finally say that I am developing those same characteristics and will be a good teacher.
I hope they feel they can come to me when they need help with not just a school problem, but a problem in their personal life or when they just need some to listen. I hope I can model the same teacher characteristics to my students as I felt she showed me. She was caring, warm, and very interested in her students’ total well-being.

Marcus Garvey was a man who undertook enormous and grandiose ideas and goals to empower and rise Black people all over the world. A man literally driven by the notion that the Negro's sole means for achieving a unique culture in the 20th century was through the foundation of a unified, separatist empire in Africa. Although his ideas, in their ultimate form, may have been rejected by some of the people of his day, it is clear that, since then, these very same ideas in a different perspective have had a favorable influence on the policies of many Negro leaders throughout history.
Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, more commonly known as Nero, ruled all of Rome from 54 A.D. to 68 A.D. Born in 37 A.D., Nero was born the nephew of the emperor, this changed when his father died and his mother married the emperor, Claudius, himself. Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu or as we know her as Mother Teresa of Calcutta was born in Skopje in 1910 (The Vatican, n.d.). Agnes had a rough life ever since her childhood as her father passed away when she was only 9 years old. I believe a good teacher can give a student the skills and self confidence that may propel that child through life. Whetting a child’s interest in learning and pushing a child to prove himself capable of obtaining and improving on his talents, is of vital importance. Having been a student for nearly sixteen years now, I believe that in order to be an effective conveyer of skills and knowledge, I must always plan, be organized, structured and make my expectations high and clear for my students. Whenever possible, I must streamline and simplify complex ideas in order to help students grasp new skills and concepts. Teaching freshly, creatively and entertainingly is also highly important.
There are many things that I believe will help me become a better and more effective teacher. In all things, practice and passion make perfect. One of the standards I will hold myself to is to make sure that I will educate myself. As a teacher I hope to have the opportunities to make sure that my education on all matters it current and relevant so that I may be ready to teach students. Knowledge of principals, theories and research about students in this age group will guide me, making me more effective for my students. I have learned that what I bring into my classroom must be developmentally appropriate, conscious of my audience and challenging for my students.
