The world is constantly throwing obstacles at you, yet one must learn how to overcome them.” This advice has affected my life in numerous ways including reminding myself of what my purpose in life truly is as well as what I am called to do. While pride and resourcefulness can be beneficial, they can often impede on one’s judgment. Due to sin, people take these traits and turn them into negative traits. God longs for us to be humble, so often he will set trials in our lives to remind us of his power over us. Humility is the fear of the LORD; its wages are riches and honor and life. (Proverbs
“Bitterness keeps you from flying. Always stay humble and kind.”- Tim McGraw For most of my life so far, there has always been one word that has stood out the most to me. It is a word that has always followed me and will continue to follow me forever. “This word is humble”.
It is the job of a leader to be a role model because people look up to you. Leadership is something I may have to work on a little because I am a shy person, but that doesn’t stop me. Last year, some 6th grade student were going to be selected to give a tour of the school to the 5th graders who were coming to Great Hollow the following year. My teacher was unsure that I would be a good choice because I am quiet in class. But I convinced him to let me be a tour guide and he was impressed with my performance. I was excited and talked to the students about the school and I was happy to be a leader and show the 5th graders what to do. I proved to myself I had
People should forget pride and do what is best for others because it makes them a better person, even though having pride in accomplishments is praiseworthy. It is important to realize that modern society does not usually praise an individual’s pride because it is viewed as arrogant and boastful. Furthermore, people should strive to do what is best for the most people, and admit to their mistakes, because it makes them a better person, even if they have to abandon their beliefs.
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson-
Pride is at the root of nearly every problem man struggles to solve. The prideful hold the inability to be guilty, which makes them undeserving of forgiveness. The proud’s ignorance turns them into an incriminating character, while the modest remain good. The modest recognize their mistakes for the reason that they want self-improvement. Personal growth and self-improvement are crucial to maximize one’s own potential.
When one examines the words “pride” and “self-respect”, it is possible one may assume that the two are identical in meaning. That the words go hand in hand like butter and bread. For quite some time I was pondering on the meaning of the two words “pride” and “self-respect”. The more consideration I put into the two the deeper I was in a maze of confusion. After a long thought on the subject I had come to my own conclusion.
The experience of the APEC Youth Science festival was incredible. It has had an enormous impact on me in many ways, changing the way I look at the world and connecting me with people and events far beyond my formerly limited experience. I am extremely glad to have had this opportunity. It was a wonderful experience on multiple levels. It challenged me and expanded me intellectually and socially. I feel that this experience has had an immense impact on me.
“Never underestimate your own strength. You were born for a purpose and are blessed with the power to achieve it” (Leon Brown). I have this quote printed out and on the wall next to my door so I can see it every day as a reminder to myself. I believe that we all have a purpose on this earth and that everything we go through on the journey there has a reason whether to teach a lesson or set an example. We have places where we want to end up and goals we want to achieve. We set these goals and dreams to help us fulfill the purpose we see for ourselves. I believe my purpose is to help people in their times of need. To fulfill my purpose, I will need to use my personal, academic and career goals to create a pathway to get to where I want to be
In today’s society, we all have a tendency to want to be the best at what we do. We strive for success and become frustrated when we fail. We are constantly comparing ourselves to against someone whom we think we should be similar or equal to. Even though we are told not to judge ourselves based on other people and their lives, it tends to be human nature in order to do so. The tendency to do this is based on the social comparison theory.
Among the many great lessons I have learned on my journey to adulthood, and likely the most important, is that my job as a child of God is to be as loving and giving to the world as I can be within my own limits. The person who instilled this ideology in me is the largest and most prominent influence in my life. I attribute the person I have become to the contributions of my momma.

What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.
To what extent does pride become a harmful or beneficial trait? Pride is the feeling of pleasure gained from one’s own achievements. There are two types of pride; “good” and “bad”. Good pride is when one’s intention to help another is to prosper and positively assist them. The person who helps the other gains pride after he completes his “task”, showing how his fundamental goal is to benefit the other person. On the other hand, bad pride is when one’s intention is to benefit himself, ultimately resulting in the harm for others. Men who possess bad pride put their own satisfaction in front of someone else’s, and their main goal is to essentially obtain pride. To be able to achieve this goal, men go on to “help” others to gain a better reputation.
