Having grown up in the United States during the twenty- first century, media has constantly influenced a large part of my life through film, fashion, and journalism. By using todays Media Platforms to my advantage, I have personally seen and experienced the global effects that media has, and been part of this transformative process. I have also considered media to be a fascinating subject, while its always changing, and constantly shaping different cultures whether that’s through film, social media platforms, journalism, or broadcasting. within other countries, and cultures. At a young age, I began to form my interest and hobbies, some of those are fashion, social media, and cultural studies, I greatly attribute a portion of my success to the intertwining of these in my life.
I have always had a keen eye for fashion, taking particular interest in fashion merchandising and design. With the rise of various online platforms and their cultural impact, along with the fashion industry being globally focused, I find myself greatly influenced by independent fashion journalist from around the world. This was the moment that I realized just how much media can influence and impact someone’s life. With great confidence and a strong curiosity at the age of sixteen I had taken advantage of the opportunity and the media surrounding me to start connecting with the world. After three long weeks, I had created my own fashion and lifestyle website and begun reaching people in other states, in a short amount of time I had people following my work and being influenced by my words in other countries. In 2015, I was approached by a fashion company to start writing on their designs, this was another unique opportunity for me to reach others and possibly shape a company and its customers through media. The influences I was having in someone else’s life in such short time was astonishing. In 2016, two years after starting my media career, I was recognized by California State Senator Jeffery Stone and State Assembly Woman Melissa Melendez for my work as a Social Media
Expert. I continue to find myself curious about the deeper understandings of media and the way they continue to theoretically influence today’s culture change. I would love to study media as it is a course that I am truly passionate about, through different media platforms I would love to get a better take on the way its created and the impacts on modern culture. Media isn’t only taking over todays generation but its mending a path way towards the future to influence our next generation, politically, socially and culturally. Media is greatly influencing and impacting our lives in tremendous ways, and being a part of that change has been amazing.

When you look at a magazine, what catches your attention the most? Is it the juicy gossip which tells you if a certain celebrity broke up with another? Or is it the beautiful models which grace every single page of the magazine? What music is the best? What is in fashion? A place we might like to visit for vacation. Where should we go out with our friends? What movie to go watch. We all get some sort of influence from the media. It shapes our opinions, but it can be for the worse as well. Over the past years the media has grown widely in magazines, radio/music and the internet. It has a powerful influence on mostly the youth and teenagers of this generation.
Even though media studies is still new, it is important, as it has a high potential of being at the centre of essential changes in our thoughts about what we should learn and if they are worthwhile (Bazalgette, 2000). Since this subject is still new there are a lot of disagreements on how media should be interpreted and it is also a hybrid subject as the idea that it came about comes from a variety of sources (Bazalgette, 2000). Media studies is also considered an academic discipline as it binds the different types of hybrid disciplines such as semiotics, structuralism, sociolinguistics and a lot more and there are no limits to an individual as how to analyze the media. The analysis of media is very important for this particular subject. Educators today realized that students need to be involved in practical work to understand the subject better. Media studies are normally associated with the English subject. However the difference is rather apparent and media studies courses uses economic and political perspectives are their main ways to understand the media as well as it requires a person to consider texts from different contrasting perspectives. The English subject on the other hand, deals with reading and writing skills as well as analyzing critically. It also involves individual students’ responses (Bazalgette, 2000).

If one asked “What is media literacy?” a majority of people would be puzzled. Some would say that it is the ‘written’ part of media that is not usually seen or a written layout of how media should be produced. The bulk of people would say they have no idea what media literacy is. People in today’s society should be informed about media literacy. Society should be informed of what media literacy exactly is and how it applies to the field of communications.
