“My Future in Atmospheric Science”

When presented this research assignment, I found myself in a slight quandary while pondering the future career of my choice. Prior to this class, I was mentally already set on obtaining an Associates in Science from Horry-Georgetown Technical College, yet beyond community college, my academic path was still rather uncertain. However, I’ve now fortunately limited my major down to Atmospheric Science with a keen interest in the studies of exoplanet’s atmospheres in comparison to our own Earth’s atmosphere and even the other terrestrial planets, while drifting away from Astrophysics and a generalized Astronomy-strict path in graduate school. In this research essay, I plan to explain how I’ve come …show more content…

Honestly, it was rather simple to grasp really! I was set for obtaining an Associates in Science degree with the intentions to transfer afterward to a graduate school where I’d continue until I reached a Masters in Science. Why an M.S. degree instead of a B.S one may ask? Well, from my understanding most of those in Atmospheric Science field have at least a Bachelors in Science for Atmospheric Science, however from what I read about from others experiences and knowledge it seems there’s a lot less of those with Graduate degrees in the science field and I find that an M.S. is a pleasant “in between” graduate degree between an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree and a graduate Doctorate’s degree with the former being slightly not enough schooling for my own preference and the latter being a little too much for my own personal ambitions. With that noted, I personally believe that with determination and grit I can and will overcome the future academic struggles and difficulties that lie ahead of my journey to obtain such a degree. To sum it up, obtaining a Master’s degree is what would …show more content…

For instance, I’ve found that one of my weaknesses is time management. Essentially, at times, I lose focus on utilizing certain points of my free time for necessary studying and doing assignments. Although I’ve learned that enjoying and relaxing is also necessary too during one’s college years, too much free time being wasted on relaxing is never good. It’s clearly all about that balance so many agree on! For instance, apparently, one should “take breaks, give yourself ‘me time’”, while also understanding that “taking time to yourself for rejuvenation and relaxation is just as important as giving time to other activities. At minimum, take short breaks during your busy day. You might purposely schedule time in your day planner just for yourself so that you can recharge for all the other things you need to do.” (Trustees of Dartmouth College, 2018). Since I’ve shed light on one of my few noticeable weaknesses, I should mention one of my strengths that I now utilize to my full potential. Essentially, I have what’s called grit, which is basically my courage and determination to see things
