I made the choice to attend college and make an impact in my life and the lives of others. After I graduated high school I had no intentions of pursuing a college degree, considering my parents never attended college and I didn’t find it essential that I should leave the ranch in the pursuit of a higher education. I honestly didn’t have a whole lot of confidence in myself, never thought I could begin to attempt work, school and paying off my students loans. Nevertheless, I was presented the opportunity to Livestock Judge on a scholarship that could cover nearly half of my tuition at NJC. While it may have been a challenge to be a full time student, a member of a collegiate Livestock Judging team, and a work study; through God’s grace I was …show more content…
So with my parents seeing this as an opportunity for me to quit, I fought even harder to find a way to cover my school bill. In the spring started to join more clubs and became a student ambassador, I also joined choir, crossroads and tried be involved in as many campus events as humanly possible. In the spring I was selected along with one other student to receive the Rising Star Award. I finally felt like I was making progress, regardless of the fact that I still had no idea how to pay for my next year of school. This all changed the day my boss in the Admissions Office gave me the idea to run for Student Government. I knew it would be a challenge to campaign for this position which is selected by the student body. Despite this, I knew that this was exactly the opportunity I needed if I wanted to stay in school. Being one of the three members of Student Government covered your room and board cost as well as your meal plan. So with a little bit of hard work and determination I studied for the test on the student by-laws, I hung flyers throughout campus, and I delivered the best speech I could conjure up, in hopes that I could land the position as Vice President of the student body. Finally, the day of announcing who received the positions
During 2017, the fall of my senior year, we held elections for National Honor Society President. I was one of the members selected and later got elected into the position. This position has taught me the importance of quality leadership in order for the success of a program along with how to prioritize my time and stay organized while helping to engage members to enable them to be the best people they can be. Throughout my months as president, I have contributed experience, advice, and leadership alongside hours and hours of time put into an array of projects benefiting both the school and the community as a whole. Experiencing this event which has influenced both my leadership and service to my community has influenced my future plans through
Upon the completion of my high school career I was faced with the sudden realization that I was growing up and on the verge of becoming independent. A few months prior, I had applied to Montana State and received my acceptance letter. The future was before me and my ambitions were truly limitless. That is, until the fact set in that I was going to have to pay for this education that I desired. I knew that with my busy schedule, I would be unable to make enough money while only working a few hours here and there. I was beginning to lose sight of hope. Then one day I talked to my counsellor about what I could do and he pointed me towards dozens of scholarships that I could apply for. The exigence or purpose
“Who’s going to step up?”. “Who’s going to change this?”. People ask these questions everyday. I realize that I have never truly thought about the defining characteristics of a leader. I was given a list of qualities and upon reading it, I proudly realized that I demonstrate leadership. But the important consideration should not be how I successfully match this definition, but instead why I do it. I was elected treasurer for the class of 2016, a student body elected official, and hold that position of responsibility by attending meetings weekly, promoting school activities (such as homecoming), and participating in student council planning and events as much as possible. I wanted to become treasurer because I wanted a say in decisions that impacted our class. I wanted to be recognized as an individual that my peers could come to with questions and concerns.
Finally, as a member of the Student Leadership Council, I have developed meaningful relationships with peers, advisors and community leaders, some who share my views and others whose views are utterly different from mine. I have been able to grow tremendously from my association with Students Against Destructive Decisions. Thus, it is my desire to continue volunteering for the Students Against Destructive Decisions Student Leadership Council, even after I graduate from high school, because it has been such a meaningful and rewarding experience. It is my hopes that I will be able to some day facilitate a Students Against Destructive Decisions Program in my community, as there is an urgent need for positive adult mentors.
College Admissions Essay If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there.
Starting college is an intense and confusing event that plagues all recent high school graduates. It is like trying to run when all you can do is crawl, and for many freshmen, myself included, one can get easily overwhelmed by the daunting task of picking a major when less than two months ago some of our parents still packed our lunches for us every morning. The concept of entering college tends to be frequently skewed and expecting an eighteen year old to decide what they want to do for the rest of their lives, without having them actually experiment in different areas, has the potential to create a generation of adults who are aggravated and depressed in their careers.
There were several other students who wanted to run for president, but none of had quite the propositions that I wanted to feed into the community. I actually wanted to create awareness of our environment and go into the elementary schools and encourage students to pursue careers in STEM. I am currently president of the society, and I am so grateful to have the ability to make difference in the society. The society will soon be hosting an Oxfam hunger dinner to inform the community of what it's like to eat in a developing country, and how lucky we are to be living in America and have the abundance of food that we have, unlike other countries. This hunger dinner will be my legacy to the society because no president before has conducted such an event that will educate our community and bring our school together.
College Success College success is defined as being successful in school and getting an education. 1 Many factors lead to success in college , and identifying these positive influence is important to serve as a guide for parents who desire a college education for their children and for a college student who want to achieve their educational goal. 2 There are differences of opinion in ranking there factors of influence in order of importance. There are some who believe that having a high gpa is what determines acceptance to a big university. Then there are others who think that getting a good education at a community college is just as acceptable as if someone who went to an elite university. 3 However, there are three factors that are most likely to lead to college success such as studying, getting help from others and, pursuing the right path in order to
From the past year of my involvement with Student Government, and the activities and events participated in and organized, I wish to rejoin SGA for the upcoming school year. When I first applied for Student Government, I initially expected a laid back role within the organization, as it was my first year and it was widely known that the group lacked efficiency or an actual role in the school community. Fortunately, I was wrong, and entered this school year with active (and stressful) responsibilities for the organization. Looking back on my own performance and actions during each event and student-run activity I participated in, I would like to think I served my purpose well, and excelled in the roles I was given, such as planning events,
My curiosity in science and technology was shaped into abiding passion under the guidance of my father, a Post Graduate in Mechanical Engineering (Applied Mechanics) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Exposed to various spheres of technology at RNSIT (a College that is consistently ranked among the top five in the State), an intensified interest evolved in Robotics. The natural way forward for me, is to pursue a Master’s program in my area of interest. Working on Personal Robotics combines my passion with technical skills.
Aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the Memory with thoughts of other men. - Bill Beattie Having a strong zeal for research oriented study from my college days; the above quote always inspired and encouraged me. I have been blessed to have parents who instilled me with good values and principles. They always have supported me in accomplishing the goals I have set forth.
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...
Desire alone is not enough, I believe one should possess the relentless dedication, focus and forbearance to achieve what one wants. I’m sincere in my efforts and do not hesitate to perspire and I believe am endowed with the aptitude and attitude to aid my dedication.
So am I; and I will not only get the job done, but i will make west prosper. Therefore, I am the only candidate worthy of the position as student body president. This school needs me to present an easy transition to high school and establish an early career awareness program. I can also help the many activities that are in need of financial support.
Growing up, everybody gets to learn that the real world is not a fantasy that’s easy to cope with. While I was growing up I believe that life was really easy; not until I reached 12th grade. That’s where I got to learn how to be independent, and work hard to earn my things. 2015 was the year where I got a little taste of the real world. Growing up was a blur, and I barely remember everything from my childhood, so I shall tell my reader the important facts, challenges, and rewards I have faced in my life.
