Dreams of Flying Flying since the age of ten when he placed sticks in the side of a cardboard box to make it look like an airplane, RG Martian of Olathe, Colorado, would jump off of a giant sand pile and fly down its sandy side. “That was the first thing (I ever flew), very uncontrolled,” RG said. Some people never get the opportunity to follow their dreams but because of hard work and good financials RG was able to make his dream come to life. I had a friend that had a birthday party and his dad had an airplane and took us all up flying for his birthday. He is planning on starting his second but has not yet started the project. He stumbled accost the helicopter project on a trip to Arizona, in 2002. RG was on his way to buy an airplane but it wasn’t ready when it was supposed to be for a test flight. On a whim he went to see about a helicopter that he had read about in a magazine. Originally he thought it was going to be a toy or perhaps a hoax. “I got over there and never looked back at the airplane. I just bought it and brought it home to build,” RG laughed. RG is currently in the process of transforming the helicopter into a jet by placing a turbine engine in it. To build the original it took him 600 hours he approximates but now with the transformation he has thousands of hours into building this one helicopter. The transformation happened out of necessity. Early on RG had a few engine failures. Later he said, “I had a big thanksgiving over here, and had about 70 people, I was giving everybody rides and I had an engine problem with it that day. Lindbergh’s passion for mechanics didn’t come as a surprise to many. As a young boy, Charles seemed to be very interested in the family’s motorized vehicles, such as the Saxon Six automobile and Excelsior motorbike. But after starting college in the fall of 1920 as a mechanical engineer, his love for aviation started to bloom. Deciding that the field of aviation was more exciting, he dropped out within 2 years. He then decided to take lessons at the Nebraska Aircraft Corporation’s flying school and was up in the air for the first time on April 9, 1922 when he was in a two seat biplane as a passenger. But his solo flight would not be until May 1923 at the Souther Field in Americus, Georgia, an old flight training field where Lindbergh came to buy a World War I Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny” biplane. It only took half an hour to practice with another pilot at the field to decide that Lindbergh was ready to fly the plane himself. After a week of practicing, Lindbergh took off on his biplane on his first solo cross country flight and few weeks after that, achieving his first nighttime flight near Arkansas, both marking huge milestones for the young pilot.

On December 17, 1905, Wilbur and Orville Wright flew on the first flying machine that was heavier than air. Just a few years before I joined the Navy in 2005, our family started taking their first trips by aircraft. Living on the East Coast, we could always drive to a fairly close location that would involve summer family getaways, so passenger airline travel was unnecessary for the larger part of 16 years of my life. In fact, I had never flown on an aircraft at all until the summer of 2003, just a few weeks after completing 10th grade. My first flight was on an Air Tran operated Boeing 737, and I will never forget that experience. Airplanes have provided people with opportunities to go all over the world to experience different cultures and places. They also create jobs for many people which contributes to how they boost the economy. In conclusion, they appear as a more clean way to travel, helping out the Earth. The airplane was one of the most important inventions due to it creating jobs, creating easier cultural access, causes economic boosts, and created less pollution than most means of travel and also has an interesting history.
