During my rebellious years in a self-seeking journey, I can remember being obsessed with humanoids after watching Sonny in the movie I, Robot. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is something that I had set my eyes on, directing me to spend a lot of time designing my own robots and believing that one day they will indeed come alive. A chat with a local associate professor from the AI department ignited my interest, making me realise that there is actually a very thin borderline separating fantasy and reality, and it depends on us to turn the fictions into facts. I am fully aware that the computer industry is a male-dominated discipline, and the fact that I am embracing it whole-heartedly can never cease to amaze my friends. For me, this is the perfect chance to …show more content…
I am an avid fan of numbers that I eventually find myself relating mathematics in the game of rock-paper-scissors where a simple implementation of statistics could ensure my probability of winning. I also think that learning decision mathematics is the best thing that happens to my life, as I explore the basics of programming, similar to playing a game. Unconsciously, these topics help me to upgrade my ability of seeking patterns and trends in daily life events, giving me a different insight on how the world actually works behind the scene. From the legendary Turing Test to modern life Mattel's Hello Barbie, clearly mankind is advancing in intelligent systems, and I will do anything to be a part of that; which leads me to Python, a programming language that is very addictive. I eagerly volunteered in collaboration with an undergraduate from the University of Michigan to create a visual novel powered by Python for his assignment, specifically helping him in the coding and design departments. The novel mainly focuses on the diversity of Malaysian's culture, and it enhanced my communication skills on how to deal with strangers
Technology is evolving at an all time rate. Every aspect of life seems to have a machine that can do what you used to do, for you: the car that can park itself, the stairs that climb… or rather escalate for you, and too many drones flying around to count. Clive Thompson explores the ever changing world of technology and addresses the best use for technology in Smarter than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better. The author begins by proposing an intriguing question about chess: who is better at it, humans or computers? The ultimate battle of grand chess master versus supercomputer. On one hand, Thompson refers to how humans are intuitive, insightful, and can read their opponents emotionally. On the other hand, he mentions
Ex Machina is one of them Alex Garland he was curious about the machine and the way they use to do things. In his childhood he developed some software and he tried to convince that they have a brain too. Later he followed his theory and started studying more about. He studied enough literature and a number of books. He always think that machine are good enough to do something else instead of solving a mathematical problem. This thinking made him to think that robots can have artificial intelligence and has ability to think likewise human do. They can also have emotional attachments. Movie depicted the thoughts of writer. He also discussed it with one of the fellow with knowledge of neurosciences. His friend opposed his idea that how a machine can such
This story is that, during the mid 21 century, because of the thaw of the iceberg that was floating in the Arctic, thus human created the Artificial Intelligence to help themselves to face the terrible environment easily. David is a robot like them. But he is the only one that is written into the love. As the first robot has love, he became the experimental article to be a kid for a couple who lost their son. As the time goes by, David still can’t join this family, and the couple thinks he can’t rather than their son exactly, so they make a decision to send to the company that created him to destroy him. However, they didn’t want to finally, but David can’t stay with them anymore. David thinks they don’t like him because he is not a real boy, if he can be a real boy, he will hear stories by his mother before he goes to bed, although he never need to sleep. So he still has a dream that one day, he will be a real boy, because he wants to be with his mother. His best friend and guide, Teddy helped him to find his dream and he says he will see him become a real boy. There is only one hope, Blue Fairy can help him to achieve him dream. However, you know, he did find her, but he was freezed with his best hope, Blue Fairy...
The Dangers of AI Artificial intelligence has blown up in the past decade and will continue to expand as humanity grows. AI has revolutionized the education system in many ways, both negatively and positively. Now that AI has been created, what scares humans the most is how capable and quick it is without control. Although many people consider AI a quick response or accommodating tool helpful to education, the dangerous effects of AI such as dependence, dehumanization, and erosion of job roles outweigh the benefits. At first glance, artificial intelligence is useful for students and teachers to learn, but using AI irresponsibly can lead to dependence.
Waking up is a part of everyone’s everyday life. It signifies a transition from one state, being asleep, to another, being awake. By this simple definition, waking up is a ritual. Defined during a class lecture on April 7, 2014, by Professor Rofel as “a stereotyped sequence of activities that marks – and produces – a transition from one social state to another,” the process of waking up includes activities that produce this transition from asleep to awake. Furthermore, I would like to add that a ritual is also a series of behaviors and activities that are executed regularly and can include either an individual or a group of people. While the word ritual often brings to mind religious events like baptisms, quinceañera and weddings rituals can also be described as habits that are performed regularly throughout the day or in a person’s life. For that reason, I have chosen the ritual of waking up to analyze with an in-depth focus into my own waking up ritual because everyone around the world participates in this ritual, but rarely in the exact way.
After my twelfth grade, the inherent ardor I held for Computer Sciencemotivated me to do a bachelors degree in Information Technology. Programming and Math, a paragon of logic and reasoning have always been my favorite subjects since childhood. I still vividly remember the time during my graduation, when I was successful in creating a simple calculator application as a class assignment. The joy I derived from creating something that is used by a lot of people to help them perform complex calculations, made me realize the power of computing in its true sense. It was also in my graduation that I developed an immense interest in programming languages such as Java, C++ an...
Bar-Cohen, Yoseph, and David Hanson. The Coming Robot Revolution: Expectations and Fears about Emerging Intelligent, Humanlike Machines. New York: Springer, 2009. Print.
As our research into science and technology ever increases its seems inevitable that in the near future Artificial Intelligent machines will exist and become part of our everyday life such as we see with modern computers today.
Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, allows a machine to function as if the machine has the capability to think like a human. While we are not expecting any hovering cars anytime soon, artificial intelligence is projected to have a major impact on the labor force and will likely replace about half the workforce in the United States in the decades to come. The research in artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly at an unstoppable rate. So while many people feel threatened by the possibility of a robot taking over their job, computer scientists actually propose that robots would benefit a country’s efficiency of production, allowing individuals to reap the benefits of the robots. For the advantage of all, researchers and analysts have begun to mend the past ideas of human-robot interaction. They have pulled inspiration from literary works of Isaac Asimov whom many saw as the first roboticist ahead of his time, and have also gotten ideas of scholarly research done by expert analysts. These efforts have began to create an idea of a work force where humans and robots work together in harmony, on a daily basis.
Bar-Cohen, Y. (2009). The coming robot revolution expectations and fears about emerging intelligent, humanlike machines. Springer.
It is fascinating that non-living things can think reason, plan, solve problems, and perceive, just like humans can. Robots and systems became sentient beings that were self-aware, going against their defining trait (that robots and machines lack emotion).
The approach to artificial intelligence should be proceeded with caution. Throughout recent years and even decades before, it has been a technological dream to produce artificial intelligence. From movies, pop culture, and recent technological advancements, there is an obsession with robotics and their ability to perform actions that require human intelligence. Artificial intelligence has become a real and approachable realization today, but should be approached with care and diligence. Humans can create advanced artificial intelligence but should not because of the harm they may cause, the monumental advancement needed in the technology, and that its harm outweighs its benefits.
When most people think of artificial intelligence they might think of a scene from I, Robot or from 2001: A Space Odyssey. They might think of robots that highly resemble humans start a revolution against humanity and suddenly, because of man’s creation, man is no longer the pinnacle of earth’s hierarchy of creatures. For this reason, it might scare people when I say that we already utilize artificial intelligence in every day society. While it might not be robots fighting to win their freedom to live, or a defense system that decides humanity is the greatest threat to the world, artificial intelligence already plays a big role in how business is conducted today.
I don’t think there is any reason for these robots to have every ability that a human does. There is no way they are going to have the intelligence a human does. Artificial Intelligence is just going to bring more harm into our communities. We can’t trust the robots doing the “everyday” human activities, they are going to lead to unemployment, and will lead to laziness causing more obesity.
... major hurdles in the field right now, but when they are jumped over, the sky is the limit. Robots are starting to emulate humankind the best that they can, and soon, they will be like humans, with the ability to think, and the ability to decide. That world will come soon, but now, we can only wait and try our best.
