College has been such a culture shock for me. I never would have pictured myself being here. I am a freshman at the Community College of Rhode Island after unsuccessfully tried The talent development program at the University of Rhode Island. When I first entered the Community College of Rhode Island I was scared. I didn’t have a clue of what I wanted to be I believed that college was going to be a waste. Time management lowers the work load and does wonders when you realize how much time you actually spend doing the most unimportant things you soon start to quest yourself. Tim managing is a flaw that I will overcome. Time manage will help me progress in the near future. In life there will be barriers n course help me develop my 32-day plan and also a 24-hour schedule which I am still working on it 32-day plan helped me immensely and I am thankful I learned these skills in my college success class, for example, every day I write my time from start to finish and I figure that most of my time is spent doing nothing that 3 hours I take to sleep would of been used to do my homework. All of these skills are tied meaning you can’t have one instead of the other. College success has taught me skills that helped me and I am glad that I decided to enroll in college sucessul
I am Nursing major and with that degree to become a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in the Cardiovascular System to reduce the rate of heart diease in America. I am a hardworking individual and I take my academics very seriously. I understand that I am at school for a purpose and know my purpose is to further my education. I am just trying to make it. My parents always told me growing up “ In order to get something you never had that I will have to do things I have never done.” No one prepared me for college, because I am a first generation college student. In addition to being a first generation college student ; I am also a first generation high school graduate. I use my my parents trials and tribulations as my motivation, because I want
When I first came to college, I did not have a solid idea of what the experience would be like, but I was excited for this new chapter in my life. I enrolled in courses I though I would excel in but a couple of weeks into the quarter, I felt unprepared for the fast-paced courses that I seemed to be struggling in but that my peers seem to of been excelling in. Early on this cause me some hardships suddenly I did not feel that I was as smart or accomplished as they were. As a result of this my grades in my courses suffered early on. As time progressed, I became friends with a group of people who were also in my similar situation, they were first-generation college students, students, this great support network of students allowed me to gain more confidence in my academic ability and with the help of my lab work, I began to see that I could excel in college.
"Where do I belong?" aimlessly day dreaming about my future I disregarded my U.S history teacher as she began taking attendance.
I finally, after five years of pondering this, dove into college. I want to make a better life for myself. Be better able to support myself. I believe when absolutely needed, you can find the courage deep down to do what needs to be done. I believe people who love you will support you and others don’t matter. I believe you must do what you need to do to have self-confidence, and self-esteem. I believe you can find within yourself the courage to do something for yourself when it truly
Throughout the years, I hardly believed in my capabilities in school and in achieving my ambitions. You see I am not one of those cool kids who blatantly don’t want to do anything, in fact, I was worse. When opportunities decides to knock on my doorstep, I simply decline hoping that luck doesn’t go my way. It is because I was afraid to change my status which I was already comfortable with my life. Now that I am more educated I’m seeing a different point of view, a different view of living, which is achieving great things in life and surpassing anything that may come my way. In my path towards a higher education I have passed obstacles such as injury, problems with self-esteem, and transportation.
It is because of the aforementioned statements that I believe the application of my time management skills in college will allow me to successfully contribute not only to the academic environment of East Carolina University but the overall social climate of the campus as well. However, one trait that is arguably more important to academic success than time management is perseverance. Perseverance and curiosity were key to my academic success in high school and I plan to carry these traits that I have attained, along with many others, to East Carolina University as I continue my academic career. Both of the aforementioned traits allowed for me to flourish in the classroom as I would challenge myself to fully understand and comprehend difficult problems. When faced with a problem that truly challenged me, I would break down the question step by step and work on it until I could say that I understood what to do on a fundamental level. This perseverance and desire to understand what previously perplexed me is the reason that I believe I performed so well in my Advanced Placement
“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.” (Keller) College is definitely a challenge, but it is also a very beautiful thing. Many students enter college expecting knowledge and a sense of direction. It may be hard to balance school between work, you’re social life, life at home, personal issues, etc. A few challenges that I know about all too well have to deal with money, transportation, and procrastination. You spend all of high school listening to your teachers and parents preparing you for what is to come in the near future. The truth is that there is only one way of truly learning, from experience.
College terrifies the best of us with pricing of the college, atmosphere of it, and the total fear of not succeeding. In my mind, I have this dream that in college I will be the best I can be, achieve every goal I set, and go above and beyond of what I set myself to. I have always had that ambition when it came to my education. I knew I had support from family, friends, and teachers. There was just one big difference, at the end of the day I was in charge of my future. The only way I see myself achieving all this is to set my mind and get the degree I want, be confident in who I am, and grow from everything I learn.
My life has not always been as bright and promising as it is today; I had no idea where my life was going, or how I would possibly be able to attend college at all. Since I was a child, my self-esteem has always been low, and any time college was brought up, it simply made my confidence drop even further. I never believed I could handle college, and never thought I would even be given the opportunity to attend.
Having good time management skills is one the best things that I can work on as a college student. Not only
Time management is a skill I see not only being useful in the life of a student but in the life of anyone who has completely overloaded themselves with obligations. Some people are forgetful and simply need a plan to follow so they can stay on track. While everyone may not need to know how to effectively organize their time and can get by without it. It is a beneficial skill that everyone could gain something from if they
To think that my first semester of college will be over this friday makes me realize how fast time flies. The first few weeks of college were tough, tiring and full of anxiety. Being in a new environment, a different state and not knowing one single person was something that I did not prepare myself for. Throughout all of the tears and the frustrations, I had to constantly remind myself that I am at The University of Akron to gain an education and become a successful individual.
(Claessens, Brigitte J.C.2004). adds that time “cannot be managed, because time is an invariable factor. Only the way a person deals with time can be”. Nevertheless, time management has become increasingly essential to businesses and organizations. This is especially true over the last two decades, as a result of expanding global competition and increased demands for the immediate availability of products and services. Given the increased pace of everyday life, people increasingly need to be more organized. Efficient time management practices support business students in acquiring key skills that will assist them both in their educatio...
Schedules are a difficult thing to balance. A person must find the time to complete a number of tasks in a day. A normal adult may have time to get everything done and still have time to spare. The normal college student on the other hand is constantly on the go. College students have busy schedules that include working, studying, and socializing.
Throughout my life, I’ve always had big dreams and goals set for my life just like everyone else. I would constantly daydream and picture myself fulfilling my dreams. But, when the time came to actually plan out how I was going to reach my goal, I couldn’t figure out which path would lead me to my desired future. Every option I would contemplate on doing and try would somehow fail and crumble before my very eyes. After several attempts, I began to question if I was even good enough or qualified enough to go to college. To me, it seemed like the people who had a chance to make it in life were the ones with resourceful parents or the students who were in I.B or in numerous A.P courses. The possibilities of a little Hispanic girl like myself,
