Professional NFL player Colin Kaepernick, is out of a job for kneeling during the National Anthem. The first amendment states the freedom of speech. You should have the right to free speech where ever for equality and justice. Kneeling does not show disrespect towards our flag or our veterans. The veterans of our country did not fight for us to stand for a symbol that you may or may not believe. They fought for us to have the right to free speech for equality and justice. Dr. Martin Luther King was one to use the 1st amendment to protect him in his speech for equality and justice for African Americans. If MLK did not deliver such a strong speech there would have never been equality among races across America. If American citizens across
the nation are still being criticized for expressing themselves in public. How will the world ever change. Some people may say its disrespectful to kneel. Those people are wrong because all they are doing is expressing their rights that veterans fought for. Speaking is one of the most powerful things you can do, but it's the only way to make a difference of a change in this world and Americans can't be scared of change. Whether or not you make a difference or not you are protected by your rights to express your beliefs. Some people may say that expressing your rights is dangerous in today's world, but that's the society you live if you you have a strong enough belief in what you're standing for the risk would be worth it. Expressing yourself in public is dangerous in the world we live in it's impossible to make every single American agree one one thing that's life. The only way to make a difference in today's society is speak up for what you believe in.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. received a Nobel Prize and was honored by the President of the United States for his contributions to society. On the other hand, he was prosecuted, convicted, incarcerated, and had his sentence had to be reaffirmed by the Supreme Court. It is hard to understand why he was incarcerated if what he did was noble. When we take into account these manifestations of the government's attitude towards Martin Luther King, we can safely make the assumption that the government is not always justified in the laws that it creates. Our government's original purpose was to keep order and ensure freedom to its people.
First of all, kneeling the National Anthem is an ineffective and, counterproductive way to promote a cause. Knelling for the National Anthem isn't going to change anything besides lowering the rates on TV and getting negative comments online. Football coach Dabu Swinney said "I don’t think it's good to be a distraction to your team. I don’t think it's good to use your team as the platform." Patti Armstrong States that" you don’t get respect from showing disrespect." Philadelphia Eagles support the protest but disagree with the way he did so. Kneeling for the National Anthem is not a proper way to protest police brutality for colored ("Refusing"). These are some of the few reasons kneeling for the national anthem is an ineffective way of protesting.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the greatest civil rights leaders to ever live. Through his empowering speeches, he made a huge impact on the world for the equality of all races. Throughout King’s life, he showed everyone how he believed equality should be acquired. With his peaceful protests and amazing speeches, he influenced people both during his time and after he passed. Players are saying it is freedom of speech. While everyday Americans are saying it is a double standard and they could not do that without being fired from their jobs.

And there was the struggle for women's equality in politics, aided by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. By doing this King puts the issue of equality into a timeline by showing that while it has been a hundred years since African Americans had been given freedom it also shows that while freedom has been granted to them there has still been very little that has happened to give the African race a better life. Midway through the speech King pleads with his people to never resort to violence in the face of adversity that is handed to them by their oppressors, because King has came to realize through his own trials that the “their( referring to the white man)destiny is tied up with our destiny.”(King 3) As King’s speech progresses he tells the masses that until they have their rights be equal to those who rights are unbounded that they must not stop until they have achieved their goal. It is disrespectful to kneel during the national anthem because it disrespects the military and veterans, and could be done in a more professional way. I feel that kneeling shows how unappreciative those NFL players are. They get to go play the most popular sport in America for millions of dollars.
