Cold Weather Theory
Do you believe in Witches? Back in the 1600’s they started to think that people were witches. I am not sure why, but they did specific tests to see if you were a witch. There were many different theories to why people started accusing people of being witches. You tell me are there witches or are they fake?
The Salem Witch Trials were a very bad time in American History. America killed just over 30 people in all before we got our stuff together. However, Europe killed over 10,000 people in the whole “Witch” era. The Trials were a series of events that included Prosecutions and Hangings of people that were found guilty of Witchcraft. Witchcraft in the 1600’s was described as the “practice of magic, especially black magic; the use of spells and the invocation of spirits.”
They ran special tests to see if you were a witch. One of the tests they did was the swimming test. “First, Sprinkle the suspect with holy water. Tie his right thumb to his left big toe, and his left thumb to his right big toe. …show more content…

Also, the notorious witch hunt took place within the period of the so-called Great Witch Craze which in turn coincides with what is known as the Little Ice Age, a period of abnormally cold climate between the mid-14th and mid-19th century show that witch hunts occur more often in cold weather.”(History List) They often happened more in cold weather because farmer’s crops wouldn’t grow and they started to have droughts. They needed someone or something a “scapegoat” to blame the fail of crops on and the lack of water and agricultural goods. That “scapegoat” just happened to be a women or man who would be accused of being a witch. Even if you have done nothing of the sort, anyone higher authority over you or not, could blame you for taking part in
