Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died hours apart on the 50th anniversary of American Independence; July 4, 1826. This is just one example of a famous coincidence. They happen daily and are simply unavoidable. Many writers purposely put coincidences in their work to strengthen their pieces and make them more interesting. Writers from Dr. Suess to J.K. Rowling use coincidences to enhance the meanings of their work. One of the most well known and most talented is William Shakespeare. He is the writer of thirty-seven plays and his work is still performed and read in schools today. Shakespeare has lots of coincidences in all of his plays, but one in particular stands out-- Romeo and Juliet. In Romeo and Juliet there are many coincidences which …show more content…
A huge coincidence is simply Romeo and even Paris deciding to go to the tomb right before Juliet’s poison wore off. Paris and Romeo coming at the same time and Romeo kills Paris with the same dagger which would later kill Juliet. Romeo then proceeds to Juliet and sees her and her body while she still seems dead. He kills himself, moments later Juliet wakes up. This adds to the story in many ways. One of them is it adds to the level of tragedy and drama. It also helps pull the reader in. The death of Romeo and Juliet has been foreshadowed throughout the play. This tragedy also could show the strength of the love between Romeo and Juliet. When the fact that Juliet was “dead” had finally sunk in and he saw her lying there her lips pale, he couldn’t bear the thought of life without her. He drank the poison and when she woke up she wanted die of the same poison so she attempted to get just a drop from the bottle, but she got nothing. She then kissed his lips hoping there was some residue of the poison, sadly for her there was not. Therefore, she killed herself with his dagger that had previously killed
It also gives Juliet a chance to let all her emotions out and express her how deep her love is for Romeo. The audience also gets an opportunity to get more familiar with Juliet as she expresses herself.
Romeo is surprised at what he did because Juliet awakes as he dies. To see him dead causes Juliet to stab herself with his dagger, straight through the heart. It's a bittersweet ending to such a famous and timeless love story. The fact that they both died for each other is romantic. The fact that they could have been together makes it all seem a greater tragedy.
These scenes are important to the rest of the play because in these scenes Shakespeare uses irony like references to death like Juliet’s vision of Romeo dead in the tomb. Lady Capulet wishing Juliet was dead. Then Juliet’s fake death and then the real death at the end of the play. These all are connected because, at the start they just speak about death and then happens the fake death followed by the real death of Juliet.
When Romeo is leaving Juliet's chamber and climbs down to the ground to leave Juliet sees him as pale: "O God, I have an ill-divining soul. Methinks I see thee now, thou art so low. As one dead in the bottom of a tomb"(Rom. 3.5.54-56). Juliet describes Romeo as looking dead when he is descending from the tower. In the scene Juliet is sensing something wrong but doesn't think much of it and brushes it off. She then after goes back to saying goodbye to Romeo. This shows that their love has caused Juliet to not think of the uneasy feeling she had felt. The purpose of this scene connects to the message of Shakespeare because it shows that in the end they both have killed themselves due to the fact that they love each other so much. The two lovers feel they can not live without each other and cause them to make the irrational choice of taking their lives. Another scene foreshadowing the two lovers death due to their love for each other is shown in a quote of dramatic irony. Romeo is begging Friar Lawrence to marry him and Juliet : “Do thou but close our hands with holy words, Then love-devouring death do what he dare” (Rom.2.6.6-7). Romeo is saying in this quote that as long as they are married then love-destroying death can do whatever it wants to them both. He is prioritizing his love for Juliet and her being his wife over what could happen to them in the future. Being so in

Shakespeare and Hathaway had three children. The first was Susanna and the twins were Hamnet and Judith. Another of Shakespeare's great works of art, Hamnet, was named after Hamnet. One example of this is that if the misfortune that held a critical letter from reaching Romeo never existed. Another example is if Romeo didn't hold Mercutio back from fighting Tybalt.
Death plays a key role in Romeo and Juliet. During the story, six deaths occur that fashion Shakespeare’s publication into the calamity that’s known around the world. Each death pushes the story forward continuously, leading to the finale where the two lovers die due to love and hate from both feuding families.
The well known plays of Shakespeare contribute their recognition to the characters. In his plays characters are made to imitate people. His most famous play Romeo and Juliet is great demonstration of this. Shakespeare shows the complexities of the characters in Romeo and Juliet such as their actions and their emotions through juxtaposition.
In society, people have varying opinions on fate. Many question whether life’s events are pre-determined by fate or whether people have a destiny to serve a greater purpose. Fate versus free will is an archaic topic among philosophers that is ultimately up for interpretation. The question on whether or not something else is controlling life’s events or if they are simply a coincidence faces us in some point of our lives. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare plays with the idea of fate and its control on the events in the play. He forces us to realize the destiny between Romeo and Juliet involves the fate between the two opposing households as well. Shakespeare blurs the line between fate and free will in his play Romeo and Juliet to show that the outstanding cause of Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy was not something decided- it was fate. It is evident by the events in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet that fate was the main cause of the tragedy in the play, and that Romeo and Juliet held the destiny to finally end the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues.
Fate. How does a small four-lettered, one-syllable word play such an important role in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet? Fate is “the development of events outside a person’s control, regarded as predetermined by a supernatural power.”, however, in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, fate is reality; fate is always causing ruckus that is forced to be faced. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, it appears that the relationship between Romeo and Juliet is determined completely by fate and teaches somebody that fate can be the cause of happiness but it can also be the cause of disappointment. Romeo and Juliet thought that the twist of fate to bring them together was the best thing that could have happened to them... but was it really?
The word death foreshadows the play from the very being Through out the play Romeo and Juliet, experience many misfortunes due to fate. All though the audience may disagree at times, and believe that it is the characters, making their own decisions which is the reason for these unfortunate events, but fate is always linked to the characters as no matter what they decide fate always intervenes, In the opening scene, we learn of just how deep the hatred between th... ... middle of paper ... ... ars from a friend that Juliet has died.
Many works of literature have death as a minor theme. In Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare frequently has his two main characters foreshadow their own deaths and even personifies death as a lover for Juliet to tie together his major and minor themes. Romeo and Juliet foreshadow their deaths frequently throughout the play especially within hyperboles. Several characters personify death as Juliet's lover to express strong emotion and while it doubles as foreshadowing a considerate amount of time, it also links the themes of love and death. As was stated, in the play Romeo and Juliet, death is foreshadowed and personified as a lover to Juliet to connect the themes of love and death.
It was just a coincidence that Romeo happened to meet Juliet. Near the beginning to the story Capulet decides to throw a party, where Juliet and Romeo first meet. Romeo was not an invited guest at this party because of the Capulet’s hatred for his family. He would not have even attended the party if it were not for Capulet sending a servant who could not read to deliver the invitations. The Servant happens to ask Romeo to read the invitation list for him. Romeo then finds out about the party and also that Rosaline will be attending. He then decided to attend this party as an uninvited guest. If it were not for Capulet sending incompetent help to do his tasks or if Romeo had been in a different spot at that time and did not come in contact with the servant, then Juliet and Romeo would have never even met in the first place. Also, while attending that party, Romeo is discovered at the party by Juliet’s cousin Tybalt. Tybalt has a strong hatred for all Montague’s and when he discovers that one is attending his own family’s party it really angers him. He then goes straight to the head of the Capulet family and asks for permission to fight the intruder. Capulet does not want a fight at his party so he tells Tybalt to be patient and ignore him. This of course makes Tybalt very angry, but he obeys his uncle and lets Romeo stay. If Capulet had been in an angry mood, then he might not have been so lenient at the party. If Tybalt had not gone to him and just acted under his own judgement, then Romeo would have never met Juliet, and would have been forced to leave the party or even killed. These facts prove that it was just a coincidence that Romeo and Juliet came to meet and fall in love that night. If things had not happened exactly the way they did the outcome would have been completely different.

The main theme of Romeo and Juliet is the power of love because of their love to kill themselves and bring two conflicted families together.
