Evidence suggests that coffee was first domesticated in Ethiopia. The natives of Ethiopia realized the effect of the native plant. The plant is thought to be native from Harar, which is in Ethiopia. The natives in Ethiopia used the coffee as a stimulant, they would eat the coffee berries and make coffee balls out of fat to consume. In the 15th century coffee reached Yemen. Yemen has the oldest evidence of drinking coffee. The Yemen used the beverage as an aid to concentration and as a kind of spiritual intoxication. In the 16th century coffee reached the rest of the Middle East, then to the rest of the world.
When the Ethiopian ancestors first recognized the effects of coffee, it became of use to them. They used it to stimulate warriors and workers, so they would become energized. During the 15th century when they discovered that boiling the bean would create the same effect in a liquid form. This is also when it started to be used for religious practices.

The people of Arabia are the oldest known people to use coffee as a form of currency. Coffee was largely domesticated in Ethiopia and the natives used this to an advantage and where the first to export coffee. The exported the coffee to Yemen. The Yemen then began to cultivate coffee beans and used coffee as a spiritual intoxication. As coffee spread across the world many third world countries use it as a main source of income because of the simplicity and the climates they live in are perfect.
Learning about coffee and where it was first domesticated was kind of tricky with the little sources I was able to find, but with those sources I managed to find some interesting facts about the domestication of coffee. Coffee is a truly a mythological treasure. It serves the dual functions of waking one up and providing one with relaxation. It is both acid and base, bitter and sweet, caustic and comforting. It is used for an array of purposes: to soothe, to give energy, to lend fortitude, to bring people together. Sometimes it is ascribed almost supernatural healing properties. In Mario Puzo’s The Fortunate Pilgrim, coffee takes these roles and more: the drinking of coffee is an immensely important ritual that serves a myriad of social functions and responds to a wide range of human emotions.

Uganda is a nation located in Southern Mid-Africa, and is ruled by Lt. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The LRA, also known as the Lord’s Resistance army, is a rebel group active in Uganda and the countries around it and was originally created by the woman Alice Lakwena (Lakwena). The group was known as the Holy Spirit Movement then and was mainly created, because Lakwena stated that she had a dream where the Holy Spirit told her to overthrow the Ugandan government, whom were mistreating the Acholi people in Uganda at the time. The movement gained much support and when the Ugandan government won a battle between the movement and itself Lakwena was exiled. This was when Joseph Kony (Kony), stepped in saying he was Lakwena’s cousin and that he was taking over. Kony renamed the movement the LRA, but due to particularly violent tactics many people began to leave the LRA and it was rapidly losing support. This then led the LRA to start using child soldiering, and raid many villages and kill or mutilate many people. Despite what some people believe, the LRA is still a deadly group that uses child soldiering, and human trafficking and continues to threaten Uganda and its neighbors today.
Uganda has a diverse culture with extreme health and conflict obstacles that must be overcome in order for the country to be successful in future endeavors. The capital of Uganda is Kampala, and the country is located in East Africa along the equator. Uganda is bordered on the west by the Congo, on the north by Sudan, on the south by Rwanda and Tanzania, and on the east by Kenya. The national flag is made up of six stripes and a circle in the center with a bird inside of it. The stripes are yellow, red, and black; each color represents a different aspect of Uganda. The yellow embodies the sunshine, black signifies the people, and the red characterizes the brotherhood, symbolizing the blood that connects the people. "Coffee is grown in more than 50 countries in a band around the equator and provides a living for more than 20 million farmers. Altogether, up to 100 million people worldwide are involved in the growing, processing, trading and retailing of the product" (Spilling the Beans , ). In 2001, coffee farmers and plantations produced over 15 billion pounds of coffee while the world market only bought 13 billion pounds. The overproduction in the coffee industry is not a usual thing and is one of the major reasons why prices vary throughout the industry.
It appears that coffee was discovered in the ninth century after a goatherd named Kaldi found the berries that his sheep were eating made his sheep and then himself unusually energetic. The stimulating berries after being roasted and brewed eventually evolved into coffee as a hot drink and became popular throughout Arabia, Turkey and Europe by the seventeenth century. (Thomson, 2006). In 1901, the first successful technique for manufacturing a stable powered product was invented by Sartori Kato, a Japanese chemist living in America. Kato received a patent for his invention and the instant coffee history was made. He then set up his own coffee company named Kato Coffee Company in Chicago (Stefanie, n.d.).
When the Spaniards invaded the palaces of Montezuma they found a large number of cacao beans. The cacao beans were used in a drink called chocolatl. The was typically the drink for the most elite in the society. This is the treatment that was done on the cacao prior to storage. Sun dried beans that had been roast in pots. The husk were removed, the nibs were placed on flat or concave stone, then ground and shaped with a roller. The fluid mass is then mixed with corn and spices and made into cakes. The chocolatl drink is made from a piece of the cake mixed with water and mixed with a molinet.
