I like to think of my entire body as a coffee machine; my heart the multi-colored coffee beans before they're ground; my mind the filter, and my words and actions as the coffee. And what happens to coffee beans? Before you put them into the machine, all of them are multi colored and special in their own ways. But after they are ground up and blended together, the uniqueness within each bean is obscured. Once they have traveled through the filter, all people can see is just the plain coffee that they wanted. Nobody will ever see the rainbow colored beans in the darkish brown liquid. When Starbucks started their target market were people who enjoyed coffee not just for the energy boost that they got from the caffeine, but people who enjoyed sitting down and drinking a well-prepared cup of coffee. The scientific question that was investigated in this experiment is: Does the material used in a filter affect the amount of salt that passes through a filter? The hypothesis was that if the saltwater was run through the different materials listed, then the charcoal filter would filter the most salt out of the water. The independent variable in this experiment is the type of material used in the filter and the dependent variable is the amount of salt left in the filtered water. Some control variables in this experiment are the amount of water and salt poured through the filters, the size/area of the filters, and the brand of coffee filters used in the filters. Others control variables in this experiment include: the length of time that the
One of the biggest questions asked by not only researchers, but everyday people as well, has been the question of what makes we as people human. Being human consists of a complexity of definitions and factors that coexist with one another to make up who we are as people, and through anthropology, being human is studied very carefully in order to provide an answer to this question. Aspects such as language and communication, self-conceptualism, and bipedalism all correlate to what consists of being human, and while some of these can relate to other species, human beings use them in uniquely different ways that enhance our functioning in the world. Anthropologists have researched the complexity of human beings for centuries and throughout this
