Member 1: Edrozo, Lean Vincent R. Journal 1: High free fatty acid coconut oil as a potential feed stock for biodiesel production in Thailand, No. of citations: 77 Coconut oil was used to be an alternative to biodiesel in Thailand. The researchers found out that coconut oil has 12.8% of free fatty acid (FFA) that is possible to be used as a biodiesel through a series of process. First is that they reduced the FFA through acid-catalyzed esterification. In the second step they used the product produced in the first step and was transesterified with methanol to produce a biodiesel product. Moreover, they found out that the coconut oil biodiesel and the Thai petroleum was very much the same. Nakpong, P., & Wootthikanokkhan, …show more content…
It is said that the markets should focus on the agrobiodiversity since it has a big role and has a potential in entering the markets. Studies have made under Biodiversity International and concluded that agrobiodiversity can be handled or supported by the markets. The agricultural products are important to be in the market not only to benefit the farmers, but also to increase the production of the agricultural products of the different countries like the coconuts. For example the Coconuts in Vietnam (Tam Quan Nam), the people occasionally sell the raw product because their community is poor in growing coconuts. The people wanted to increase the production so they made different products using coconuts like ropes, doormats, geotextiles and many more. Because of all of this, the people in Vietnam earned more because their community consumes a lot of …show more content…

Journal 1: Beneficial effects of virgin coconut oil on lipid parameters and in vitro LDL oxidation No. of citations: 274 According to the journal of Nevin and Rajamohan, virgin coconut oil contains benefits in relation to human health such as the lowering of lipid components which is synonymous to fats. Virgin coconut oil specifically reduced total cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids and others which are examples of lipid components. With this knowledge, the production of virgin coconut oils would acquire a great increase due to the fact that more and more individuals, specifically women, aim to achieve a better shape especially during the time of summer. Raw, virgin or extra virgin, organic, unrefined or unprocessed and cold-pressed are all terms used for the best coconut oil you can buy and the ones that are the healthiest for you.
The purpose of this report is to explore the controversial dispute between the quality of two different forms of fish oil supplementation; Triglyceride (TG) and Ethyl Ester (EE). Fish oil can be implemented into a diet by eating either fish or taking supplements. Fish oil is extracted from selected fish that contain highly beneficial healthy oils known as omega-3 fatty acids, two of the most important omega-3 fatty acids that are found in fish oil are Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) and Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA). Some of these fish that contain healthy omega-3 fatty acids include Tuna, Salmon, Mackerel, Herring, Anchovy’s etc. Fish oil supplementation also often contains small amounts of vitamin E to prevent spoilage and is can be combined with various other minerals and vitamins. There is an array of benefits that are involved when implementing fish oil into a diet; although it’s most common association is that it has been linked to slightly lowering blood pressure or triglyceride levels (fats linked to cholesterol). Although fish oil is recommended for persons with high blood pressure, it’s extremely important to remember that it is only to be taken at recommended dosages as it can ironically increase the chances of stroke when overdosing on the supplement. The scope of this report includes a general comparison between TG and EE fish oil supplements and how they are chemically differentiated, with a focus on how the quality of the two forms of supplement are processed. This report will not focus on other forms of fish oil sources and the impact it might have on irreversible factors such as age, gender, genetics, race/culture or environmental conditions.
Coconut oil is ideal for skin care. Helps protect skin from the effects of aging due to free radicals, and can help improve the appearance of skin. Coconut oil is considered an antioxidant due to its stability and resistance to oxidation and the formation of free radicals. It reduces the need for antioxidant protection of vitamin E. Many experts believe that coconut oil may help restore youthful skin. When coconut oil is absorbed into your skin and connective tissue, helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles by helping keep the connective tissue strong and elastic and helps to exfoliate the surface layer of dead skin cells, leaving the skin soft.
Coconut oil can be used for just about any health issue you can imagine because it contains medium chain fatty acids, which means it goes directly to your liver where it's then used as energy. This process has therapeutic effects on your body that can help with a variety of disorders. Such as, epilepsy, Alzheimer's, Candida, eczema, weight loss and more.

Seventy-six articles describing sixty-nine studies met the inclusion criteria. Most studies lacked statistical power to detect a significant effect of oats on any of the risk factors considered: 59% of studies had less than thirty subjects in the oat intervention group. Out of sixty-four studies that assessed systemic lipid markers, thirty-seven (58 %) and thirty-four (49 %) showed a significant reduction in total cholesterol (2–19% reduction) and LDL-cholesterol (4–23% reduction) respectively, mostly in hypercholesterolaemic subjects. Few studies (three and five, respectively) described significant effects on HDL-cholesterol and TAG concentrations. Long-term dietary intake of oats or oat bran has a beneficial effect on blood
Agriculture is the science and practice of producing crops and livestock. The primary aim of agriculture is to use the land to produce more abundantly to feed and clothe the world at the same time protecting it from deterioration or misuse. Humans had to improve agriculture as they became more dependent on food, creating a solitary evolutionary connection between plants and animals (Campbell and Reece, 2001). In this day and age, so many people have forgotten the authentic premises of survival. It is easy for some to believe that the grocery stores produce food and clothing is produced by shopping centers. These inaccurate presumptions are being made due to the lack of knowledge of how agriculture truly works. There are also significant differences in the levels of understanding between rural and urban communities.
And, because food now comes at a low cost, it has become cheaper in quality and therefore potentially dangerous to the consumer’s health. These problems surrounding the ethics and the procedures of the instantaneous food system are left unchanged due to the obliviousness of the consumers and the dollar signs in the eyes of the government and big business. The problem begins with the mistreatment and exploitation of farmers. Farmers are essentially the backbone of the entire food system. Large-scale family farms account for 10% of all farms, but 75% of overall food production (CSS statistics).

The Omega-3's are widely recognized for their role in heart health. Not only do these fatty acids help healthy hearts, they also benefit those with cardiovascular disease. Research has proved atherosclerotic plaque reduces with consistent consumption of omega-3's. Further, incidences of irregular heartbeats decline with these fatty acids; high blood pressure has been known to slightly drops as well.
Good fats are found in nuts, avocados, olives, seeds and healthy oils like olive oil, flaxseed, and sesame.
The rainforests around the world have been dwindling to the point where we will soon have no more in the world. We lose an ecosystem for Creatures as we deforest the area and plant crops for products we do not need such as palm oil. Animals, Such as the orangutan, face the destruction of their homeland with us continuing to increase the production of palm oil. What could make this change? Decreasing the use of palm oil, an ingredient contained in multiple products we use daily, can help decrease the deforestation in the rainforest and allow animals such as the orangutan to thrive. Palm oil became relevant to us only years ago.
It is acquired with or without using heat, without undergoing any additional chemical processing after extraction. According to the standards set by Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Product Standards of the Philippines (BPS), 2004 (the world’s largest exporter of coconuts), virgin coconut oil must be colorless, sediment free with natural fresh coconut scent and free from rancid odors or tastes. There are two main processes in producing for Virgin Coconut Oil; Fresh dry and Fresh wet (Canlas et al, 2005). In the dry method, the fresh coconut meat is pressed to acquire the oil. In this, minimal heat is applied to quickly dry the fresh coconut meat after which the oil is pressed out via mechanical means. In the fresh wet method, the oil is extracted from fresh coconut meat without drying (Bautista et al, 2005). Coconut milk is extracted first by pressing, the oil is then further separated from the water. Methods that can be used to separate the oil from water includes, boiling, fermentation and mechanical centrifuge. The traditional fermentation process is the natural separation which needs longer time to break the emulsion of coconut oil and water through gravity (N.A. Nik Norulaini et al, 2009). Gravity is mainly associated with the slow sedimentation process of an immiscible mixture. Sometimes, gravity separation may
Cholesterol-and fat free coconut water offers cardio-protective advantages. It brings down low density lipoprotein (LDL or the bad cholesterol) and builds high density lipoprotein (HDL or the good cholesterol) levels, subsequently diminishing the danger of cardiac
