Coaches of sports teams in actuality are much too strict on their athletes, one reason being they can get carried away and abuse their athletes. According to Dr. Alan Goldberg “Coaches forget that the game is for the kids, people nowadays just want to win rather the be a good coach and teach their athletes” (Dr. Alan Goldberg, 2018). A connection to this is about a coach at a local high school in Indiana. He has been bullying his athletes calling them stupid and lazy, once a pediatrician heard about this she went into a practice trying to talk to the coach. Within ten minutes she realized that it was the coach talking to her and she was on the defensive side. If she can't even get to the coach, how can the kids? This is when coaching crosses
In a growing trend that reaches to all corners of the athletic world, coaches are being forced to cope with the added stress of disgruntled parents. More and more they are required to defend personal coaching styles and philosophies, uphold team decisions and go head to head with angry, and sometimes violent parents. The pressure has gotten to the point where coaches all over the country are quitting or being forced out of their jobs by groups of parents. High school athletics should be about learning and having fun, and when parents cross the line between cheerleader and ringleader everyone suffers.
High school coaches been sworn at called names and physically threatened by parents before, during, and after the games. Playing time is often at the root of the problem though sometimes a parent is outraged that their son or daughter isn’t being played at what the parent thinks is their child’s best position (Nolan). In addition, equal playing time is important because it developed every player skills.(Nicole). Take, for instance, the case of a young player who has never played for a club before. He’s 11 and charges around the place without being able to control the ball or kick. Many of his teammates didn’t think he should play for their team but the coach has been working with him and one day he wanted to let him play and believe it or not he did very well for his first game that he even made a goal for the team (David). The best thing to do whenever you’re in a sport is that the coaches
As I have asserted, coaching is far more than winning or losing. A coach is an essential cog in shaping qualities such as sportsmanship, competitiveness, self discipline, and work ethic. A quality coach can build a player up while a bad coach can tear them down. My goal as a coach was to always leave the player striving to be the best they could be. A good coach
Interview with Mr. Scott William in the Field of Sport Science My interviewee was Mr. Scott William, a well-known professor in the field of sport psychology. My discipline is sport science, and although William does not teach at the university, he has a sport psychology degree. He is a close friend of my father’s and my mentor. He has been working in sport and recreation industry for the last ten years before I even knew him; so it seemed like he had a good understanding of sport science and the use of drugs in sports.
The dynamics of the coach athlete relationship in youth sports are a very vital part of the sporting arena. This topic interests me because of my developing coaching career while dealing with the youth. The performance of the team does not solely relay on the coaches or athlete’s ability. There have been instances when interactions between the coach and player have not been optimum. Indiana Coach Bob Knight is universally known for several technical fouls and being ejected from the games on various occasions during his tenure. He is infamously known for his horrible temper and the harsh manner in which he dealt with the member of his team. While he was often seen as displaying lack of control and discipline when dealing with his players, he still is regarded as having a very successful career (Freidman, 2013).
Being an athlete is more stressful than being a coach. There’s nothing easy about being an athlete. Athletes have to learn to cope with: stress, pressure, grades and so much more.”Being a athlete shows a person’s full will to totally destroy their body just to win”said college basketball star athlete Deion Gilchrist. Just the strive for greatness makes people be proud athletes. People should care about this subject because it is very controversial and I think becoming a coach should be harder to accomplish. Although, athletes stress over time managment and the pressure presented to them during games .No matter how great an athlete is they will always get criticized about their performance on and off the court is.
A coach must be able to handle harsh criticism, he must be dedicated, he must have the time to put the work in for the team, and he must be the prime example of a great leader. If a coach doesn’t have these characteristics there in no need to try and become a coach. If a coach wants to be a great coach and have a family then he should probably look for a real supporting wife that loves the sport and try to make sure the kids are involved, so they don’t feel left out. If a coach is something someone would enjoy doing he should make getting the players respect a big thing, because if he can’t get the players respect than they probably won’t even buy into what he wants to do for them or what he wants to accomplish. Coaches must be able to handle criticism from fans, parents, and even players. “Just don’t take it personal do what you know is right, some people are going to like it and some aren’t. It’s what comes with the position,” a quote from Coach Foster when asked how to handle criticism. (Foster)
In sports today, the stakes of a game are higher than ever. This causes all those invested in the sport to become on edge. Although this may cause some beneficial effects in the game, there are still a few downsides to it. One such downside would be the bullying of athletes from their very own coaches. That’s right, the intensity of sports causes some coaches to take drastic measures to make their chances of winning greater, even if said measures are detrimental to the confidence and mentality of their players.
“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will”. Being a football coach requires someone who can be a great communicator. This person needs to understand communication on both sides an individual can not just demand that it's a one way street where you talk and athletes listen. The career of coaching requires history of the game knowledge of the game, extensive education, and positive and negatives aspects of the game.
My senior project is about being a coach and how it can be difficult and not an easy task. I wanted to show others that being a coach is something that takes time and effort in order to accomplish it. Being a coach is not a fun job but it is a job that will help you in the future. Coaching is an experience that not a lot of people get to go through but those who do become not just better people but they become teachers to others in troubling times and in time of need. Coaching gives you and also shows you that being helpful and courteous to others actually helps you out as a person and it also helps out the players you’re coaching to be better people and to be kind and not take things in the wrong way and to show them a better way that will help them in their life.
First lets talk about how the coaches want to make there teams look good, and by that I mean how they make themselves look good. So the coaches have a really bad response to the players who bang there heads on a wall, the coaches think it is alright to just simply say, "No your fine, get back out there". To me that sounds like saying, Oh, who cares about your everyday health and mental health, pretty much your everyday life, so get out there, make me look good, and man up. I would like to see the coach go out on the
A coaching wanting to win can not get to close to players they have to
Sports psychology is the study of how psychology influences sports, athletic performance, exercise and physical activity. Some sports psychologists work with professional athletes and coaches to improve performance and increase motivation. Other professionals use exercise and sports to enhance people’s lives and well-being. While finding ways to help athletes is certainly an important part of sports psychology, the application of exercise and physical activity for improving the lives of non-athletes is also a major focus.
Moral and Ethical Issue: Is coaching behavior that dehumanizes and jeopardizes the integrity of sports Deviant or Normative?
Being a parent is one of the most rewarding, yet difficult jobs in the world. We want our children to grow up to be well-rounded adults and to succeed in everything they do. As role models, we give direction to our children, motivate and inspire them to reach a goal, and encourage them to do the right thing. We are molding them to be the next generation of successful leaders. We want to teach them life lessons, be high performers, and most of all, we want them to be happy. Parents want school and sports to be positive experiences in their children’s life, however, what if a parent’s leadership creates a negative experience? What if parents push their children too hard? What if parents create such negativity regarding sports, that it results in emotional, physical, and even health related problems?
