This semester I decided to play club lacrosse for BGSU and it has been a very beneficial learning experience for me. I came onto the team not knowing anything about the sport, other than the fact that my best friend plays on the team. Unfortunately, I was the only one in that position because everyone else on the team had played throughout high school. At first, I was very discouraged since I was so confused about what was happening and others could see that I was struggling, but my hard work and focus has led to much improvement. By watching my teammates and asking many questions, I am starting to understand the game much more. Showing up to practice throughout the first few weeks was very intimidating.
Usually I participate in sports that I am more familiar with such as basketball or softball, but this presented a new challenge for me. I had to learn new rules and techniques, as well as meet many new people. This strongly relates to having students in the classroom because they will be faced with new information and interact with peers each day. A teacher must break down the material into simple steps so that the students can follow along without getting overwhelmed at the complexity of the problem. This was similar to how my teammates had to teach me how to correctly throw the ball or play my position. At the beginning I was struggling greatly, but with more practice the actions become more smooth. In the same way, students will have many questions and difficulties when you first teach them unfamiliar content, but through practice and exploration of the problems, they will begin to form a more thorough
understanding. With more success in their coursework, the students will gain confidence in their abilities. The beginning frustration will gradually diminish and they will be more willing and able to perform the work. This relates to my lacrosse experience because at first I would dread going to practice out of embarrassment, but now I could not be more excited to play my first game. The atmosphere at practice, as well as in the classroom, are key components to learning. By creating a positive environment, the students are more willing to participate and learn by asking questions. Working through mistakes is an important step to students’ learning because it allows them to address where they have a misunderstanding so that they can modify or correct it the next time. Positive and effective collaboration with others is also a very important aspect in these situations. As I had experienced on the field, learning something new takes time, practice, and many different emotions. I can use my recent experience to better relate to students in the classroom. One of the biggest things I realized is that learning is a process, but progress is always occurring.
Comparing two very different sports, Cheerleading .vs. lacrosse. Out of the two sports Lacrosse is more athletically challenging and competitive sport. While cheerleading is also a athletically inclined sport it does not require as much training. I personally prefer to play lacrosse because I like to be involved and more active. By the end of this paper I will prove that lacrosse is the better sport.
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
Every time I play lacrosse I feel like I am a part of something greater than myself. Being a part of something greater than myself, being changed in my life forever has made me think and feel whenever I play lacrosse. When I was younger playing lacrosse was a learning experience. Playing with more skilled or less skilled girls in lacrosse and playing different positions except for one every game, practice and scrimmage all the time makes me get a different perspective. It all started freshman year of high school. I really wanted to get involved in some kind of sport or club. I couldn’t decide what to do. Many people said I should join the lacrosse team and my response was “I have never played before, how am I suppose to make the team”. Both on an off the field, my enthusiasm and motivation to obtain a goal is a trait that I am very proud of. I have faced many tasks where a leader had needed to step up and I am always willing to do so. I am also willing to get help when I need it. If I can’t complete a task by myself I do not mind asking a classmate, teammate, friend or a teacher for guidance. By bringing that openness and leadership to University of Charleston’s Athletic Training Program I believe that I can also attribute to the University of Charleston’s Mission Statement “to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement.” By bettering the Athletic Training community by providing care to our Athletes I believe that I will be a great addition to the Athletic Training
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, everyone was gathered together as positions were being assigned. I was originally overwhelmed with excitement, but as the game drew closer, the joy I had felt was replaced with anxiety. Lacrosse is the oldest team sport in North America, having been played by Native American tribes long before any European had even set foot on the continent. A century after European missionaries discovered the game played by Native Americans, they began to play it themselves, starting in the 18th century. From there, it evolved and grew in popularity from a very savage game that resembled war, into what it is today, a recreational sport played widely in America and other countries. I had Just got done with lacrosse practice and about to walk down to the car when all of the sudden a pink fluffy polar bear flew down and grabbed me and threw me onto its back i was actually not scared i enjoyed this odd ride when all of the sudden i saw a shiny silver tiny… peanut! It smiled a weird peanut smile and jumped into my ear and wisped a date. 2024 all i did was nod my head and poof we turned the oddest yellow in the world! After four years of a new team every season, I went into my first practice of my fifth soccer season expecting the same to be true. Play on this team for one year and then be randomly placed on a different one the following year. Little did I know this team, especially the coaches, would leave a lasting impact on my life. I gained an invaluable support system that has stuck by my side for an upwards of nine years.
Each game, my passion grew. Each team, new memories and lifelong friends were made. Sports sometimes make me feel disappointment and at loss; but it taught me to be resilient to a lot of things, like how to thrive under pressure and come out on top. When coaching athletes of the many things you do not want to happen is overlearning. Overlearning is when the practice goes beyond the amount needed to achieve a certain performance criterion. Extended practice of relatively simple skills could result in learners not continuing to engage in appropriate amounts of cognitive efforts. Players will being to daze off, become lazy in their efforts and not pay attention because they find the practice irrelevant. To prevent overlearning use a distributed practice technique, hold shorter practices and greater number of sessions with breaks in between. Next, you need to organize how complex you want your practice to be. If it is complex, start slow with isolation on the parts of the skill and progress to doing the entire skill, if simple then do the whole skill. Use any keys necessary in order to help the athletes learning process, visual, virtual, or written. Another way to improve practices is to make sure athletes have plenty of mental practice or strength. Have them mentally visualize themselves doing the skills that they performed in practice, it will help them to remember what they learned better and possibly increase their performance next time in

This type of teaching style is best used for elementary students. According to Daryl Siedentop, a professor from Ohio State University believes that class should teach kids about skills, teamwork, and the importance behind each sport or activity. Sport Education recreates the meaning behind gym class.
I remember one of the greatest moments of my high school career. I have played lacrosse since seventh grade and every year I’ve gotten a little better, or at least I hope I have. My first year I understood most of the rules, could catch, throw, and pick up ground balls. My second year I understood all the rules, could pass well and put my shots where I wanted them. My third year of lacrosse was the first time I had played a high school sport so I think that I developed my skills much more than ever before.
