Social work is a career focusing on the improvement and overall well-being of an individual or group in a variety of settings. Social workers are individuals who care about the people they help and want to make things better for them. Social workers do this by making plans to solve and cope with problems that come up in people’s everyday lives. Social workers don’t just do this for an individual or specific group of people, they also look for injustices within the community and work to improve the community as a whole. Child and family social workers help children and families against abuse and help cope with problems effecting the whole family. Clinical social workers, also known as licensed clinical social workers, provide individual, family, and group help with coping and changing behavior. Clinical social workers can work with clients dealing with mental, behavioral, and emotional disorders. School social workers strive to improve a student’s performance in academics and social development. They can also deal with problems with bullying, frequent absence, and aggressiveness. Healthcare social workers are built into three categories: Geriatric, Hospice and Palliative care, and medical. These social workers help people cope with illnesses, mostly terminal, and transitions from the hospital to their homes assessing everything they will need and helping with the lifestyle changes.(cite?) However, some employers will accept a bachelors in psychology or sociology. Some pathways in social work, usually one involving a school or healthcare, require you to get a master’s degree in social work. While going to school for social work the students learn about diverse populations, human behavior, and social welfare policy. Along with this they must complete fieldwork or an internship to earn a degree. After this, one who wants to continue in social work as their career must earn some type of licensure or certification depending on the states requirement. Some states grant exemptions for clinical social workers who work in a government agency. Even if someone can complete the schooling and become licensed does not mean they are going to be successful in social
