In the president Barack Obama’s speech on climate change, Barack Obama builds an argument that nations should join together in combat to impact on the climate change. Obama also use reasons why climate change is an urgent issue for all, what efforts have already been made, and what still need to be done to support his reasons and have a persuasive argument. Barack Obama also uses logos, pathos, and ethos to explain his argument. Obama even uses facts to support his reasons too. The president Barack Obama brought up climate change up in every state in the Union address. Obama went bigger when he decided to lay down 500 word defenses to address the issue. Also that majority of the military and the American people, and even the community scientific companies will attend the problem. Obama’s main issue was that Paris climate change agreement, caused global warming. This effect would affect the ending a decade of political stalemate. The effect will also low risks of ecological subsided.
The president Barack Obama uses logos to explain why these types of climate change that affect global warming. Also how these things affect our country’s. Barack

Obama used pathos by using good information and facts about how we are struggling today on climate change and how he can make it better for us. Obama explain how in our past climate change affects other poor countries and caused war and more dangerous things to people. The government and the president will work to communicate with other country’s to get better energy for our poor countries. Also how we all can get enough of everything to produce nearly all of our growth in global carbon emissions that will last us and others for decades. The president also used pathos to explain to the people, would you rather watch other children suffer and die from hunger because they don't have enough food, oil, or energy to keep their country
John McPhee used similes throughout his essay “Under the Snow”. One of his similes was him describing how a researcher put the bear in a doughnut shape. It was to explain to the audience that the bear was wrapped around with room between her legs for the bear cubs to lay when they are in hibernation. He describes the movement of the bears and the bear cubs like clowns coming out of a compact car. The similes help the audience see how the moved and how they were placed after the researcher moved them.
In his piece on climate change, Richard Lindzen addresses his stance on the heated debate of global warming. He claims that there is, in fact, no ongoing catastrophic temperature increase. Lindzen, a Professor of Meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a recipient of the Jule Charney award from the American Meteorological Society (Richard Lindzen), believes that the earth goes through natural phases of warming and cooling. In this piece, he examines why he believes people have a false conception of Earth’s climate shifts.
Despite these generalizations, of which the President failed to fully support, his speech was quite effective. Most notably, Mr. Obama used anecdotes for various reasons, such as serving as springboards for more relevant issues, as well as to, more importantly, demonstrate pathos and logos. The latter two rhetorical elements were effectively employed by President Obama, helping to spur emotion (pathos) as well as to both support his claims and form logical conclusions (logos). Though, as previously mentioned, Obama occasionally presents assumptions of which he fails to support, Mr. Obama’s mastery of rhetorical strategies dwarfs most of the downsides of his address. All in all, it appears to be quite evident that President Obama presents effective rhetoric within his State of the Union Address.
To promote a viable campaign, the issue needs to be made real to your audience. McKibben expresses the difficulty in doing that for this issue, because carbon dioxide is insubstantial, direct effects are in gradual widespread changes that aren't easily noticed. He raises the point that the average American is so far detached that even the increasingly severe weather systems created by global warming wouldn't bother him, because he lives a life going from
From the beginning, and throughout his speech he used in the most effective way rhetorical tools to support his beliefs. The rhetoric tool such as ethos, pathos and logos. He used ethos used to gives his audience a better understanding of who his character is. For him to establish an effective speech of ethos, Obama had to present himself in a way that will make the audience believe in his beliefs as well. In this speech Obama creates his ethos in many different ways that gives his speech not only credibility but, validity also. Obama does
“All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long-running debate over whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it's here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster.” BARACK OBAMA, speech, Apr. 3, 2006. Climate change is not a theory contrary to what many individuals believe and is in fact confirmed by major scientific agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States. Global Warming causes are mainly due to greenhouse gases that are trapped in the atmosphere and cause depletion of the earth’s ozone layer. Carbon Dioxide is a greenhouse gas, and although it is a necessary component in our atmosphere as it helps plants perform photosynthesis, too much of it causes ozone depletion and therefore climate change. Carbon Dioxide levels in the atmosphere have increased tremendously after the industrial revolution, which indicates that the major cause of this issue is due to anthropogenic activities.
In the beginning when he begins to say, “Homes have been lost, jobs shed, businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly, our schools fail too many.(par. 5)” This is an emotional appeal that is calling to a lot grievances that all the Americans have been affected by in one way or the other. Calling attention to how America is in a crisis and being able to use it to have the audience invest in what Obama is saying and connect with him, is a very strategic use of ethos and accomplishes what it needs to. Another use of pathos that peaked my interest in particular was when he stated, “A man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served in a local restaurant can now stand before you to take the most sacred oath (par 31)” This shows how great a change there has been in America in their ideology of how everyone is equal. It appeals since he is the first President to have roots in the African American heritage. I believe that this emits strong emotions because equality was one of the biggest problems in America, and what he stated really shows how America has become a place that has advanced far and fast in terms of equality. Also when he states “The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness. (par 8)” Again Obama calls towards equality in America being one of the main calls when it comes to ethos. This is because Obama is personally an example of what this equality has been able to make it possible for him to be the President. It is a very emotional subject as well as the “pursuit of happiness”, something brought back from the constitution of the United States when it was
Climate change is no doubt one of the greatest threats to this planet today. Coastal cities flooding due to melting ice caps and rising water levels, cities experiencing extreme weather, and ocean life dying because of warmer water temperatures, it is not wonder why so many scientist and country leaders are worried about the safety and future of their country. The U.S. is just one of these countries where climate change endangers 333 million people. That is why the U.S. must take action to assure the future of their residents and safety of their numerous coastal cities. Due to the rising coastal water levels, previous legislative mistakes, and the risk of further climate change consequences, President Trump should acknowledge the need for the
Mr. Gore’s speech was given in New York University on September 18, 2006 to bring awareness to the issue. Al Gore uses scientific background and research to persuade the audience by appealing to pathos, logos, and ethos used by his esoteric diction that contributes to the consequential tone to create an effective argument for global warming.
The fear he brings on by talking about Ebola spreading, the grief brought on by talking of the many murders and awful acts by ISIL terrorists, to the hope he projects be calling for the nations to come together to drive his argument. While some arguments use emotion to deceive readers and keep them from paying attention to the argument, but Obama’s speech does just the opposite. The emotions that are felt bring you closer to his argument and facilitate understanding of what he is saying. Since unfortunately not a great deal of people pay attention to politics, they are not knowledgeable on the issues that have taken place. With the use of emotion, Obama is able to help those understand without them having to know the situation entirely. For example, regarding the ISIL terrorists, Obama states the, “mother, sisters, and daughters have been subjected to rape as a weapon of war. Innocent children have been gunned down.” Now while one may not know the ins and out of all the acts of ISIL, this makes people understand that they are bad and need to be
From a logical point of view, also known as logos, the video makes strong claims that are well supported with visuals, facts and statistics. The major claim made in the video was, humans are the cause of climate changes drastic alterations in recent years. This claim is well supported by facts such as the rise of the industrial revolution and the excessive burning of fossil fuels by human beings. These facts are supported by charts, definitions of terms, cited sources and powerful visuals. The video also suggests logical solutions to aid in decreasing the amount of climate change for the years to come.
Here Dicaprio use logos to back up his claims that the Earth is rapidly deteriorating. In doing this, he is able to strengthen and increase the validity of his speech, despite the fact that he is not a reliable source. In fact, scientists have discovered that, “[o]cean warming accounts for about 93% of the total increase in energy storage in the climate system from 1971 to 2010” (Blunden & Arndt ). It is important to note that this increase alters Earth’s natural equilibrium, which forces temperature fluctuation. Dicaprio is attempting to get across that when this happens it makes it more likely for natural disasters to occur, which inherently damages the
Riding in the car, you look out the window and see a factory. You see that a lot of dark clouds coming out of the funnels. Those dark clouds are CO2, that is polluting our Earth. Global Warming is a common thing heard everyday. Global Warming is a big issue on Earth, this could cause sea level rising, abnormal temperature rise, and cause climate changes.
One of the most important issues lying in our world today and in the future is climate change. Whether you’re a denier or an acceptor, several scientific studies have found that a storm is coming for us in the future, so to speak. We often ask ourselves, what are these effects we hear of? This leads us to the purpose of this paper, to show that climate change will have drastic effects across the globe. As time progresses, these effects that are constantly spoken of on national news as well as through documentaries have grown to become reality.
Subpoint A: Not long ago, a documentary film called “An Inconvenient truth” came out in 2006. This film raised international public awareness of climate change and reenergizing the environmental movement. A former U.S Vice president Al Gore campaigned to educate citizens about global warming through a simp...
