Climate Change Persuasive Essay

Climate change, or global warming, is the gradual increase of the temperature of the earth Climate change has been a topic that has been talked about for awhile now If it is happening, if it is not, if humans cause it, and if it is happening naturally Humans could be causing it by the many things we do, but the earth could be going through natural cycles which is causing climate change. There is evidence to support all of these arguments. Even scientists are having arguments about whether it is occuring or not. In 2010 Climate Depot released a report featuring more than 1,000 scientists, who disagree that humans are primarily responsible for global climate change. I am going to tell you everything that you need to know about climate change.

Some people think that climate change is caused by humans. Some ways humans can cause climate change is by deforestation, burning fossil fuel, driving cars, even breathing. Of course breathing isn’t one of the biggest contributors to climate change but it contributes some. And then some people think that climate change is happening naturally. Things that would cause this would be volcanoes, and some of the natural cycles that the earth goes through could cause climate change. Then, there are people who think that climate change is not happening.
Alright, so first off I’m going to tell you a little about climate change and the background on it.

So in 1861 a physicist names John Tyndall showed how water vapor and other gases create the greenhouse effect. Then in 1896 a chemist named Svante Arrhenius says that industrial age coal burning will enhance the natural greenhouse effect. He then goes onto say that it might benefit future generations. So then in 1900 Knut Angstrom discovers that even the tiny concentrations found in the atmosphere CO2 absorbs parts of the infrared spectrum, the infrared spectrum involves the interaction of infrared radiation with matter. Although he did not realize the significance, Angstrom has shown that a trace gas can produce greenhouse

warming.
In 1938, 38 years later british engineer named Guy Callendar showed that temperatures had risen over the last century. He also showed that CO2 concentrations had increased over the same period, and says that this caused the warming. In 1955, a United States researcher named Gilbert Plass used a new generation of equipment including early computers, to analyse in detail the infrared absorption of gases. He says that doubling CO2 concentrations would increase temperatures by 3-4 degree celsius. Then in 2006 carbon emissions from fossil fuel burning and the industry reach a total of 8 billion tonnes (metric ton) which is 88184904874 US tons. In 2013 the first part of the IPCC's fifth assessment report says scientists are 95% certain that humans are the "dominant cause" of global warming since the 1950s. The IPCC is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
There is a lot of evidence that shows climate change is happening yet some people still believe that it is not happening.

One thing that shows climate change is the sea level. With all the ice melting the sea level has risen at a fast rate. More evidence is ocean heat content. They have records that go back over half a century. These records have shown that more than ninety percent of global warming is going back into the ocean. The rate that it is heating has doubled since 1992 and the heat has travelled deeper into the ocean. Scientists even go to say that this is one of the strongest pieces of evidence to show how fast the earth is warming. This also contributes to a rise in sea level (Cook) Another piece of evidence is the northern hemisphere is not covered with as much snow as it has been in the past. Also, September ice in the northern hemisphere has been shrunk by 35% since

1996.
Climate records have shown a warming trend Earth’s average surface temperature has even risen over the years. Glaciers are also decreasing everywhere around the world. Even some mountains like the Alps, Himalayas, Andes, Rockies, and in Alaska and Africa (NASA). Arctic sea ice has rapidly decreased in thickness and extent over the last decades. Data shows that the number of record high temperature has been increasing, but the number of record low temperatures has been decreasing since the 1950s.
