Climate change, or global warming, is the gradual increase of the temperature of the earth Climate change has been a topic that has been talked about for awhile now If it is happening, if it is not, if humans cause it, and if it is happening naturally Humans could be causing it by the many things we do, but the earth could be going through natural cycles which is causing climate change. There is evidence to support all of these arguments. Even scientists are having arguments about whether it is occuring or not. In 2010 Climate Depot released a report featuring more than 1,000 scientists, who disagree that humans are primarily responsible for global climate change. I am going to tell you everything that you need to know about climate change. …show more content…
Some people think that climate change is caused by humans. Some ways humans can cause climate change is by deforestation, burning fossil fuel, driving cars, even breathing. Of course breathing isn’t one of the biggest contributors to climate change but it contributes some. And then some people think that climate change is happening naturally. Things that would cause this would be volcanoes, and some of the natural cycles that the earth goes through could cause climate change. Then, there are people who think that climate change is not happening. Alright, so first off I’m going to tell you a little about climate change and the background on it.
So in 1861 a physicist names John Tyndall showed how water vapor and other gases create the greenhouse effect. Then in 1896 a chemist named Svante Arrhenius says that industrial age coal burning will enhance the natural greenhouse effect. He then goes onto say that it might benefit future generations. So then in 1900 Knut Angstrom discovers that even the tiny concentrations found in the atmosphere CO2 absorbs parts of the infrared spectrum, the infrared spectrum involves the interaction of infrared radiation with matter. Although he did not realize the significance, Angstrom has shown that a trace gas can produce greenhouse …show more content…
warming. In 1938, 38 years later british engineer named Guy Callendar showed that temperatures had risen over the last century. He also showed that CO2 concentrations had increased over the same period, and says that this caused the warming. In 1955, a United States researcher named Gilbert Plass used a new generation of equipment including early computers, to analyse in detail the infrared absorption of gases. He says that doubling CO2 concentrations would increase temperatures by 3-4 degree celsius. Then in 2006 carbon emissions from fossil fuel burning and the industry reach a total of 8 billion tonnes (metric ton) which is 88184904874 US tons. In 2013 the first part of the IPCC's fifth assessment report says scientists are 95% certain that humans are the "dominant cause" of global warming since the 1950s. The IPCC is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. There is a lot of evidence that shows climate change is happening yet some people still believe that it is not happening.
One thing that shows climate change is the sea level. With all the ice melting the sea level has risen at a fast rate. More evidence is ocean heat content. They have records that go back over half a century. These records have shown that more than ninety percent of global warming is going back into the ocean. The rate that it is heating has doubled since 1992 and the heat has travelled deeper into the ocean. Scientists even go to say that this is one of the strongest pieces of evidence to show how fast the earth is warming. This also contributes to a rise in sea level (Cook) Another piece of evidence is the northern hemisphere is not covered with as much snow as it has been in the past. Also, September ice in the northern hemisphere has been shrunk by 35% since
1996. Climate records have shown a warming trend Earth’s average surface temperature has even risen over the years. Glaciers are also decreasing everywhere around the world. Even some mountains like the Alps, Himalayas, Andes, Rockies, and in Alaska and Africa (NASA). Arctic sea ice has rapidly decreased in thickness and extent over the last decades. Data shows that the number of record high temperature has been increasing, but the number of record low temperatures has been decreasing since the 1950s.
Climate change is a long-term change in regional or global climate patterns. From the mid twentieth century to now, it has mostly been about a significant increase in average global temperatures. Climate change is a major issue in the world today, and a lot of people feel very differently about the cause of it. The common argument about it is whether climate change is a natural occurrence or if the recent increase in temperatures is because of humans. Climate change is a natural cycle in the Earth’s weather. Before humans started burning fossil fuels, there were still weather cycles on Earth that were as hot or hotter than what it is now. In fact, Earth’s weather now, is on pace with the previous weather patterns in history. Human emitted
One of the most prevalent issues discussed in today’s society is global warming, it has gathered international attention over the past few years due to the increase of temperature throughout the world. Scientists believe that if global warming is not dealt with seriously, within the next few years it may cause excessive glacier melting in which turn would end up flooding cities along coasts, heats and droughts, and crop failure. With these catastrophic consequences it is essential for governments across the world to do their part in ensuring steps are taken to prevent further warming from happening. Global warming is a risk to humans of all nations because it is not exclusive to any region of the world, and it will affect the plants, animals and weather in all nations. Restrictions need to be set in order to prevent or limit the amount of fossil fuels countries emit, preserve more forests, and limit other activities that heavily contribute to the release of
Climate Change is a change of global or regional climate patterns, usually due to toxic gases in the atmosphere. Sea levels rising, Coastal cities at risk, Harsher natural disasters, all of which are effects of Climate
My parents grew up in small town in Mexico. There was a little river that went through part of the town when they were growing up. Every weekend or so they would go out and would go swimming with their families, it almost became a tradition to go swimming there until they noticed that the river 's water level was becoming smaller and smaller. Today there is no river anymore, instead it 's a road that travels through the town. Every time I visit my family in Mexico it would alway be nice and warm up until this year when I went in December. I remember waking up and getting ready to go to my aunt 's house in clothes for warm weather. As I open the door, the cold air punch me and I saw snowflakes falling down. It 's not supposed to snow in that
The Earth is currently locked in perpetuating spiral of climate change. While the global climate has unarguably been changing since the dawn of it's manifestation, the once steadied ebb and flow of climate change has become increasingly more unpredictable. The risk of rising sea levels, and drought plaguing the fresh water supply, during the time that flooding and sporadic storm conditions turn once fully inhabited regions into uninhabitable death traps. Climate change catalyzed by human's increased production of carbon dioxide, is more noticeable than ever in our recorded history (United States, 2014 National Climate Assessment). Thankfully however, with the changing weather conditions due to carbon related emissions, the change in public opinion about their personalized influence on climate change is also increasing. Kevin Liptak Jethro Mullen, and Tom Cohen note that In reaction to the most recent governmental report on climate change, even the U.S. government believes that a stronger approach needs to be taken to correct our self-generated cataclysm.
Climate Change, or “Global Warming,” has been a point of argument for many years. There are many theories for how and why the climate has changed and been affected. The big question is, Are humans really causing the climate to change or is it some other cause no one is willing to see? All around climate change or “Global Warming” is a cycle of the Earths atmospheric temperature, because statistics show that this cycle has been occurring for millions of years. There is no direct evidence supporting the claim that humans have any direct effect on global warming.
When most people hear about climate change, the first things that come to mind are pollution, warming of the earth, and polar ice caps. Climate change is an alteration of the environment, temperature, and weather due to a high emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Greenhouse- gases such as oil, coal, and gas are being released into the air causing the earth to warm. This change in climate will cause a ripple effect and oceans will be warmer.
First of all what is climate change? According to the Australian science organization Climate change can be defined as “a change in the pattern of weather, and relates changes in oceans, land surfaces and ice sheets, occurring over time scales of decades or longer”.
In today's modern world, climate change is the biggest threat our population is facing as a whole. Climate change today is occurring thanks to technological advancements made by humans. Every time someone drives a car, builds something in a factory, or even heats and cools their home, gases are released into the air. These gases cause our atmosphere to rise in temperature which is the source of the changing climate. Some individuals may brush this idea aside and claim there is no big deal or that the weather is just changing.
Climate change has been a recurring threat to our contemporary planet for over the past few decades. Currently, the situation is now known as a grave epidemic for the situation is getting significantly deleterious at a brisk pace and the only thing we could give credit for this looming threat is none other than ourselves. It comes off to no surprise that climate changes cause a series of unfavorable events to occur to our environment but society persists on staying ignorant to the revisions being made. Therefore when the preponderance of our population is asked about the effects of climate change, the question received an abundance of vague answers morally surrounding the concept of damage to our fellow ecosystem. A very common misconception
The world we love and occupy our lives with has taken a terrible blow from the human race. Global warming could not be more real, and if we do not do anything about it soon, then, we will will eradicate all life on Earth forever. Global warming is defined as: “a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth 's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.” If we do not doing anything to change the direction in which our planet is being treated and destroyed we will soon not be able to have life on this planet. I heard a quote once when I was younger that really has stuck with me through my life. “We are
Global warming is increasing temperature amongst the Earth where climate change is constantly happening because it is affecting the oceans as well as the natural environments. The Earth is constantly heating up is very detrimental to human beings because chemicals are let off into the universe where the sun rays are trapped beneath the Earth’s surface and in the air. It is a natural recurring process that can lead to erosion and the issue is going unnoticed. As the surface is heating up, places that have a lot of ice can leak into the granite. Due to the decreased temperatures in these areas, it can freeze between the rocks and as the average temperature from global warming is increasing, it can melt the frozen water. As a result, it will leave more space for the same process to happen again, which will drive the plates apart. We’ve been hearing about Global Warming for many decades, and we’ve been ignoring the issue. It is caused by an overload of Carbon Dioxide that is trapped within the earth. Global Warming is the Earth’s
In the modern era, climate change is a variation of weather over a long period of time, and it is the most important and controversial global issue. It is arguable in different positions, especially on science, culture, and politics. These three fields all cause a lot of latent concerns. The science of climate change brings out several harmful phenomenon, such as global warming. With respect to the climate change, the culture of humanity may be changed because the changing climate is the most important key factor of forming today’s human societies. Instead, climate change is now a political issue, which will affect the public attitudes directly. In other words, it means the government tends to review and provide latest information in order to adapt and retard the climate change. Over a long period of time, climate change has been taking place because of human activities that affect the scientific, cultural, and political sides.
What is climate change and how do you know it’s happening? Climate change is a change in regional or global weather condition patterns. As you’ve noticed, each summer gets a little hotter and this has started happening since the nineteenth century. Most of the warming has happened in the past 35 years, with 16 of the 17 hottest years since 2001. The surface temperature is rising as a result of increased carbon dioxide and other man-made emissions released into the atmosphere.
What is global warming? Usually when people think of Global warming, it's the normal Ice Caps melting and warm winters, which is partly true. Global Warming is the accelerated rate in the increase of temperature. But they are ignorant to the fact that Global warming can and will cause so much more damage to us soon in the future, along with these effects we will also face Food Shortages from the extreme weathers, heating that can actually damage you, and water contamination. The increase in temperature is caused by greenhouse gases, such as methane from livestock and Carbon Dioxide, from cars and industrial process's.
