A question was asked in class on last week after taking our Clifton’s strengths finder assessment. What did you find out about yourself, how are you using your strength and what can you do better to ensure that it is used to its full potential? This was a very important assignment to me and it turned out to be very beneficial at this point in my life personally. I’m currently trying to figure out, what’s my next move and what are my true strengths and my true passion. Taking the assessment allowed me to have many questions answered that I’ve been wondering about. It even answered some that I haven’t had to face yet. The Clifton assessment revealed my Top Five strengths which are Communication, Competition, Deliberate, Woo and Achiever. Communication
didn’t take me by surprise, I’m very aware that I’m pretty good at communication but I did find some areas I could improve in to make myself an even better communicator. When reading the book definition of Commutation it truly made me smile, I said to myself we are truly on to something. As a Communicator I want my information whether an idea, an event, a product’s features and benefits, a discovery, or a lesson to survive. I want to divert their attention toward me and then capture it, lock it in. I like to explain, to describe and to host. This is what drives me to hunt for the prefect phrase. I use this strength without even knowing it, but I was told by many of my coworkers and peers that this is something I should invest more of my time into. However, I do agree with the book but speaking in front of a large audience or writing will definitely be my areas of improvement. I can start putting myself out there more often to speak in front of larger audiences, practice makes perfect. Competition keeps me alive in the workplace and at everything in life, this is who I am. Like all competitors, I need other people so that I am able to compare if I can compare, I can compete, and if I can compete, I can win. I live by this saying. I enjoy surrounding myself around other competitors because they invigorate me. I think I am using this strength at its full potential. I can’t explain it, but I am happy I can’t and it’s something within me.
Identifying and understanding your own personal strengths is key to being a successful leader. Knowing your strengths means you can focus your efforts to maximize results, in yourself and in others. Strengths Finder 2.0 is designed to uncover your strengths and utilize these strengths to your advantage (Rath, 2007). Identifying and applying these strengths to your leadership style, will enhance your effectiveness as a transformational leader.
The Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment with a fun experience that provided very useful information about myself. The questions were interesting and thought provoking. However, the time limit on each question meant that most responses were my first instinct or gut response. I think the time limit keeps a person from over thinking the questions and makes them respond with an answer that is true to who they are. I agree with the five strongest areas identified in my assessment which were strategic, futuristic, learner, command, and ideation (Clifton, Anderson, & Schreiner, 2006)
I was excited to take the Gallup Strengths Finder assessment. Although I am more reserved and shy, I typically find myself placed in leadership positions. I am always surprised when people refer to me as a leader but family members and close friends have made me more aware of this personality characteristic. I really enjoyed taking the Gallup Strength Finder assessment and I can see why this would be an assessment growing in popularity across the globe. When I finished the assessment, my results showed that my strengths, from first to last, are developer, empathy, input, connectedness, and restorative.
The questions were very thought out and not too broad which was an intelligent idea because if you want to achieve specific answers in a personality assessment, there needs to be specific questions. I read a book about the Big Five before this assignment was assigned so while I was taking the test I could partially tell which questions corresponded to which division of the Big Five. Nevertheless, that did not have an impact on how truthful my responses were. If I were to take the test again I do believe that I would get a similar score because I answered honestly and the answers I chose were the ones that represented me the best. I assume that the test would produce results for diverse groups of people as long as the information about gender, age and country were answered correctly. I thought that having a test that compares similar types of people to each other was a brilliant idea for the reason that it could have been too generic if
I found this assessment extremely useful since it helped me see my weaknesses and strengths clearer. Knowing what my strengths and weaknesses are helps me know what sort of emotions or habits I need to be careful of and what qualities I can improve and/or
My five strengths according to the strength finder include; balance, this helps me be aware of treating all people equally regardless of the situation. I am neither in anyone 's favor or against anyone as this to me is selfishness and individualism. This would result in a situation where some people scale heights due to connections while others are lagging behind. Finding a place in this world can take many obstacles to achieve. Ralph Ellison explores blindness, racism, and invisibility to allow his nameless narrator to develop himself from a naive southern boy into a mature activist. The scene with Ras the Exhorter confronting the narrator and his fellow brotherhood member, Tod Clifton, played an important role in this character finding his place. This confrontation started a chain reaction that eventually lead up to the death of Tod Clifton. This death allowed the narrator to become more aware of what he should do to fight racism, helped him see what he was blind to, which was his white supremacist brotherhood, and in the end this all resulted into him becoming invisible, and see what he had unseen.

The first assessment I completed was very eye opening for me as a leader. As expected, my score for the overall potential of my leadership was on the higher end of the scale because of my background and amount of experience I have in leadership positions. This assessment portrayed a very accurate depiction of my overall leadership potential because I have always placed emphasis on being very good at what I do while working hard to not follow a path that did not work the first time.
I found the results of my self-assessments to be a very insightful and accurate description of myself. The results of the learning styles test and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II are very valuable for examining my personality traits and learning style and making improvements as needed.
Through the self-assessment instruments utilized in this program, I have gained wealth of knowledge about my strengths, and weaknesses and how they affect my personal and professional life. By using different exercises, I recognized new strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, I identified ways to develop my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) identified some of my strengths as the ability to get things done, initiating, and taking risks (Kolb, 2007). In the Strongest Self Feedback Exercise, some of the feedback listed my strengths as having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being self-confident, a fast learner, determined, hardworking, and an awesome listener (Drucker, 2005).

Part I. Strengths Personal Profile System Two strengths I learned during my Self Awareness assessment were being a good listener and showing loyalty. I really try to be a good listener in all situations. I like to hear the whole story or complete process, whatever it may be. I am cautious about making decisions without having all the details.
After completing the assessment exercise I have been able to carefully my personality. The exercise consisted of an evaluation of four areas: Locus of Control, Personality Type, Stress Reactions, and Learning Styles.
The word strength brings many thoughts to mind such as: power, muscle, durable, advantage and potency to name a few. All of these words give a positive connotation to strength because strength is, generally, speaking a very useful tool. Before taking the strength finder test I would most likely associate the word strength with physical capabilities. However, through this Strength Finder course I have found a new and much more empowering perspective of this word strength. My strengths according to this assessment are: Futuristic, Belief, Communication, Activator and WOO. All of these strengths are natural talents I personally posses yet if I never work on them and improve them they will be nothing more than a natural talent instead of empowering
