Classroom management is a crucial piece to becoming a successful teacher. The students environment is vital to the learning. When students feel safe, understand the procedures and expectations, are encouraged, and have positive reinforcement the learning will be second nature. Providing the correct environment for all students to learn, meeting the needs of diverse learners, preventing behavior problems are main goals of a classroom management plan.
Philosophy
My philosophy consists of having a safe and welcoming environment where relationship building will begin to allow students to feel comfortable and ready to learn. In the earning environment the classroom arrangement or aesthetics will encourage challenging curriculum and positive discussions. Most behavior problems shall be prevented though positive expectations and appropriate understanding of expectation and classroom procedures. I want students to know a little about myself and I want them to understand that I care about the whole student rather than a simple test score and learning outcomes building positive student teacher relationships.

Students will learn what is expected of them transitioning, lining up, and entering the cafeteria, music room, gym, and art room. The students will learn how to discretely ask to use the restroom and what is expected when in the restroom such as completing business, washing hands and keeping the restroom clean. When needing to use the restroom in the classroom the students will be taught sign language for restroom, they will them sign out on a sheet, quickly and quietly proceed to use the restroom and return to the classroom signing back in. In my class, we respect ourselves and take care of one another. I will encourage my students to try their personal best in every situation they find themselves in. I will remind students that your personal best effort does not look like your neighbors. I will structure my classroom environment so students can easily collaborate and form positive relationships with one another. The structure of my classroom environment will be full of warmth, patience, and humor creating an environment that is welcoming, safe, and fun for my students. We will look out for another and help one another reach our fullest potential individually, academically, and socially.
In my twelve years of teaching experience, one thing that most of my colleagues have struggled with at some point in their career has been classroom management. Classroom management is one many keys to instructional success. Unfortunately, many have left the teaching field due to lack of knowledge of classroom management best practices.
My personal philosophy of classroom management focuses on creating an environment where children feel safe and where they feel like they belong. I will create this environment for my fourth grade class through making my expectations of the students clear while developing an engaging lesson plan and personable interactions with my students. I developed my philosophy from studying different theorists and based my philosophy on the theories of Glasser and Kounin. Glasser believed that the teacher’s roll in the classroom is that of a leader rather than a boss. He believed that students should be given power in the classroom and that the teacher should share it with the students. I will use his ‘7 caring habits’ specifically supporting and respecting to help my classroom feel safe and welcoming to my students. Meeting the individual needs of my students will be the focus of my classroom management routine. I will meet individual needs by promoting self management and self efficacy in my students by creating an environment that that has predictable and consistent daily routines while focusing on my student’s successes (Shindler, 2010). Having a predictable routine will encourage a success oriented environment and will reduce anxiety and help towards creating positive self efficacy in each of my students (Shindler, 2010). In Glasser’s Choice Theory he talks about focusing on the present and not bringing up the past (Glasser, 2010). Every teacher has a different method of teaching. The teachers that I have had in my school career have been no exception. In this way, each teacher has set an example for me, as a future teacher, to follow or not to follow as I see fit. With the examples from my teachers and in continuing my education, I am developing my own method of teaching. I plan to use a combination of teaching methods in my own classroom. My method will be an eclectic approach because I will be using components of more than one philosophy. I will be using essentialism, behaviorism, progressivism, and existentialism.
As an education major at State College, I’ve decided to become a teacher for several reasons. As I progressed through elementary, middle, and high school, many of my teachers were great role models for me. This has inspired me to become a role model for someone in the near future. My love for science and math has also influenced my desire to teach and make a difference in a child’s life. I want to teach students the subjects that I love so much. I want the feeling that I helped a child accomplish or learn something they couldn’t understand. One of the main reasons I want to become an educator is because I feel education has really lost teachers who truly love teaching and those who truly love teaching and those who have the desire to make a difference. I feel I can really help make a difference in the education world and bring back the love to teach.
When thinking of classroom behavior, I think of children running around screaming and disrupting the whole class. I also think about how I want my class to run. But in order for my classroom to run smoothly I need to identify my classroom management philosophy. Classroom management techniques refer to the strategies that teachers employ to effectively create safe, respectful classroom environments that reinforce positive behaviors and eliminate behaviors that negatively impact learning. Management strategies range from specific "rules of thumb" recommended by educators such as ensuring expectations are clearly identified and responses are consistent to more comprehensive theories that emphasize human relationships and respect for diversity
The Educational Philosophy I Will Incorporate in My Classroom Education serves as the foundation to a lifetime of learning. Since every child is unique, I believe that it is important for them to learn in an environment that is both safe and stimulating. By creating this type of atmosphere, the students will be able to realize their intelligence and use it constructively. As a future educator, it will be my goal to establish a classroom that is, 1) non-authoritarian, 2) student-centered, and 3) focused around student experience. These three elements are part of Progressivism, the educational philosophy I plan to incorporate into my classroom.

In all, there are a myriad of teaching philosophies that educators have. Personally, I consider setting clear expectations for students and creating a respectful environment, acting as a facilitator in the classroom, creating relationships with students and their caregivers, and using positive reinforcement to be the most essential in order to create a positive, effective, and safe learning environment for students. Without using these philosophies when interacting with students in the classroom, I do not know how I would begin to attempt to teach them. In my future classroom, I plan to use different strategies to implement these philosophies in my class every day as well as continue to learn about new ideas about how to promote learning in a supportive, encouraging way.
Classroom management is a necessary component to every classroom. It includes creating a set of rules and clear expectations that all students follow. This helps unify the classroom for both the teacher and students allowing for a smooth, effective, and educational environment. I believe Classroom Management is the main component in the educational setting. I believe if students are in a safe environment, then learning can take place. This doesn’t mean punishing behavior problems but rather a combination of setting the tone in a class, preventing behavior problems with interesting and engaging curriculums and effectively including all students in the classroom so that their needs are met. Having the right environment for all students to learn is my major goal of implementing good classroom management--without it the students would not be able to learn.
As a future teacher I believe that students can be taught self-discipline. Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory suggests that people learn from one another through observation, imitation and modeling. This is why modeling is an essential aspect of my philosophy. It is important for teachers to model the behavior they expect from their students. I believe that students are basically good, but there are times when everyone needs redirection and guidance. I view students as equals in the sense of equal rights and equal treatment of all students. Students should always be treated with equality, but they should see me as the authority figure that is in charge. Although I am in charge, I do believe in creating a democratic classroom. It is important to give students the opportunity to voice their opinions and actively participate in creating the rules of the class room. I will work with my students to create the rules and expectations for my classroom.
