Looking into classical liberalism and modern liberalism it seems to be that there is very little difference between them. It almost feels like an, “are you Republican or a Democrat?” conversation. I think also the world “liberal” is used as a vulgar word or a put down. To me classical liberalism is focused on a limited form of government and has a main focus of the freedom of individuals. Whereas modern liberalism is focused on benefiting others as a whole with different programs. I would have to agree with modern liberalism more than classical liberalism. While the restriction of government involved with society in the long run would be better, short term it would hurt everyone I think. Thinking back at the last election debates Mitt Romney …show more content…
I know people get upset when one person exploits this program but think of how many people are getting helped by this government set up program. With classical liberalism I do not think this system would be in place.
There was also a time when I was about to be thrown of my parents health care. But Obama later passed a law extending the age limit to be on your parent 's health care. Because of modern liberalism I was able to have affordable health care. It is a new generation and it is a new world. It is difficult to start a business or find a job after college. Young adults need all the help they can get in order to become self dependent in this economy. I consider myself politically neutral and look at both sides equally. As a Christian and as a person who should care about other people, modern liberalism sounds better than classic liberalism. The ideologie of assisting others that cannot assist themselves is something I strive to do everyday. I understand that if the Government intervenes with a lot of social and economic problems there is going to be something else that gets cut. Like Obama raising taxes on the rich in 2013, someone had to pay to help out the less

With the economic crisis in 2007 I feel like that was the case. The government let the markets take their own course and then crashed because they were not regulated as well. The aftermath resulted in Obama and the government having to step in and bail out businesses and banks. Living in Detroit at the time this hits close to home on how the government can intervene in the economy and markets. This is I think the most extreme case of the government getting involved with the economy giving billions of dollars to the auto companies. It was either these auto companies are going to tank or get saved. It ended up really saving a lot of jobs and helped the economy stabilize.
I think with the Adam Smith realized this with his theory of classical liberalism versus modern liberalism. Modern liberalism basically jump started the markets where classical liberalism was the birth of the markets. I think also with classical liberalism it is very easy to get hung up on old ideas that do not work anymore in today 's society. I think both classical and modern liberalism both what equality across the
Today, the definition of the term “liberal” is relatively uncontested, and its content is relatively well defined. A liberal today is someone who advocates for governmental solutions to various problems, not for unaided individual freedom. Liberals today trust and call for governmental action, not for the type of self-determination supported by Hoover. Contemporary liberals believe in individual freedom, but they typically advocate f...
Classical liberalism is an ideology that embraces the principles of individualism such as rule of law, individual rights and freedoms, private property, economic freedom, self-interest, competition. Classical liberalism stresses the importance of human rationality. Just as it values political freedom, classical liberalism also holds freedom to be the basic standard in economics, and believes the most beneficial economic system to be the free market. Whereas, the term socialism, when generally used refers to any ideology that believes that resources should be controlled by the public for the benefit of everyone in society and not by private interests for the benefit of private owners and investors. From the description of both classical liberalism and socialism provided above it is clear that the two are conflicting ideologies where one supports individualism the other supports collectivism that believes in the wellbeing of all citizens in a community.
Overall, politics are key in determining whether this era was predominantly liberal or conservative as well as economic and social reforms. On an aside, conservatism can be defined as a political philosophy based upon tradition and social stability while liberalism can be defined in two ways. Modern Liberalism emphasizes liberty and rights but, believes in strong government intervention in order to prevent the growth of a capitalist society, while classical liberalism advocates liberty and the autonomy of the individual. With these definitions given it can be concluded that the progressive era promoted change as well as government intervention to prevent capitalism from spreading and the autonomy of the individual. In conclusion, for the most part the Progressive Era from 1901-1907 was a triumph for modern and classical liberalism.

There is an ongoing debate on the topic of how to fix the health care system in America. Some believe that there should be a Single Payer system that ensures all health care costs are covered by the government, and the people that want a Public Option system believe that there should be no government interference with paying for individual’s health care costs. In 1993, President Bill Clinton introduced the Health Security Act. Its goal was to provide universal health care for America. There was a lot of controversy throughout the nation whether this Act was going in the right direction, and in 1994, the Act died. Since then there have been multiple other attempts to fix the health care situation, but those attempts have not succeeded. The Affordable Care Act was passed in the senate on December 24, 2009, and passed in the house on March 21, 2010. President Obama signed it into law on March 23 (Obamacare Facts). This indeed was a step forward to end the debate about health care, and began to establish the middle ground for people in America. In order for America to stay on track to rebuild the health care system, we need to keep going in the same direction and expand our horizons by keeping and adding on to the Affordable Care Act so every citizen is content.
...ssical conservatives are scared of it, but they do know that is needed with some restrictions, or as modern liberals would say, “safety nets, lots and lots of safety nets.” Classical liberals love the free market system because of what it can do for the economy and society.
A liberal is generally defined as someone who looks more to themselves and their personal knowledge when deciding what is right or wrong. They would rather be free to experience life on their own and not be dependent on an external authority when making decisions. Conservatives however generally tend to live more traditionally, which means that they would rather continue living in a way that is similar to how past generatio...
Metaphysical Premises And Types Of Liberal Ideology: Liberalism As The End And Liberalism As The Way
Liberal is defined as "one who is open-minded or not strict in the observance of orthodox, traditional, or established forms or ways." (Webster's dictionary) A conservative is defined as "one who adheres to traditional methods or views." (Webster's dictionary) The definition of these words have changed throughout history. A liberal in older days was not what one would be today; they were considered a person whom sought to use change, while a conservative is one who opposed change. The differences between a liberal and a conservative is a wide gap that focuses upon the fundamental beliefs of those within each group.
Modern liberals also believe in these core themes; however they disagree on how they should be applied. They also added their own beliefs that classical liberals do not subscribe to. Modern liberals believe in negative freedom, however most believe that with this freedom they should use it a positive way to enlighten themselves. They therefore believe in positive freedom. Like liberals, they also believe that individual is important. However they believe that it is important to help out the society and those who need help by embracing collectivism. Mode...
...ould harm it, while conservatives tend to oppose things such as the Clean Air Act for monetary reasons. Conservatives tend to support smaller government while liberals tend to want a larger government. Even though there are many differences between the two ideologies they both derived from classical liberalism. Some individuals refer to classical liberalism as the “best of both worlds” ideology. Both ideologies believe in hierarchies as an organization principle of society and both believe in the “middle class.” They both believe in the constitution and share many moral values. The two ideologies are very different, yet they are not complete opposites in every situation or argument. Many individuals have a hard time labeling themselves a ‘liberal’ or a ‘conservative’ because they may have liberal beliefs in one-area of politics and conservative beliefs in another.
We are the wealthiest country yet we don’t have free universal health coverage. The insurance companies are attempting to manage cost through price controls and we’re still having to pay out of pocket for a lot of the expenses. Personally I think that The Obama Care (and the Affordable Care Act) will have little to no effect on me until maybe later in life because the insurance I have works great for me. I do have to meet my deductible every year, and it depends on which doctor I go to if I have a copay or
...Anarchy in theory seems like a very good idea. I would love to live in a society where you just did what was good for you and helped others while they helped you. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to live in a society like that. The only problem is that to get to this utopian society the whole world would have to spontaneously decide they wanted it and I can guarantee there are many politicians and CEOs that would not like that. Contemporary liberals are right in wanting to reform institutions of today but I can't see how over regulation of government in all areas is going to help fix things. I do see the need for some government action towards the eradication of poverty, equal rights, and unemployment.
One of the benefits that Obama Care instills is providing coverage for young adults up until the age of 26. I don’t know about others, but in my group of friends, there weren’t too many of us that were financially stable and able to afford all the bills in life before the age of 26. Being able to be seen as a dependent on their parents’ insurance plans was a good send because that was one less headache that we had to deal with. If the Republican Party repeals Obama Care how many more individuals will there be living out here without health insurance? I always tell my friends to be careful of the actions that they u take today because they may have regrets tomorrow. I feel that nobody is thinking about tomorrow. The Republican Party is thinking only about how they can save money
