Classification of Crimes
Three gang members, Joe, Larry, and Bob all will have some sort of charges after this criminal incident. All three gang members have different levels of conviction they will face from the result of their crime together. In the order of seriousness Joe is first, Larry second, and Bob third. In this scenario I will use the Illinois criminal code to decipher the charges for all three gang members.
Joe is present with the theft of the car in the beginning of the scenario, and right there he becomes an accomplice to a class I felony of theft in the state of Illinois (720 ILCS 5/ 16-1) and a crimes against property. Joe than began to tell the others that he was going to shoot at a group of rival gang

Once the car they were in came to a stop, Joe pulled a concealed gun from his waistband. Joe is already a convicted felon so I know the weapon he has can’t be registered, so he is unlawfully in possession of a firearm (720 ILCS 5/24-1) and a crimes against public order. In the event of Joe opening fire on the individuals he took the life (Homicide) of one individual
(720 ILCS 5/9-1), and wounded (Aggravated assault) another (720 ILCS 5/12-0.1) which is a crimes against person. Joe is the Principle in the first degree in this crime, because he is the perpetrator of the crime by using the gun on the rival gang members (Lippman, 2015).
Larry is the driver of the stolen vehicle that he, Joe, and Bob were in. Larry would be considered the principle for the theft of the stolen vehicle, because he is the one operating the vehicle. Class I felony would be his first charge in the scenario (720 ILCS 5/16-1) and would be a crimes

He showed up and was "drunk and belligerent," so he got put in maximum security right away while in jail. This may have worked out for the best because this is how Joe ended up with the group of guys that are taking care of him.
On Friday April 24th J.P. Walker, Preacher Lee, Crip Reyer and L.C. Davis got into Reyer’s Oldsmobile and they took off on a mission to kill Mark Charles Parker. (3 other cars of men followed) They went to the courthouse/jail in Poplarville and they could not get in. So they went to Jewel Alford’s House (The jail keeper) to get the keys to the Jail. Alford went with the four men to the courthouse. When he got there he went in and down the hall to Sheriff Moody’s office and got the keys to the jail. He opened the door to the jail and Lee, Reyer, Davis, Walker followed Alford into the jail. Alford then opened Parkers cell and Lee and Davis pulled Parker out of the jail and courthouse to the Reyer's Oldsmobile. Alford then left and the men got into the car.
After reading several articles on all three gangs, it seems like all three of these gangs are involved in a lot of the same crimes. The crimes range from small crimes like graffiti vandalism to violent crimes like rape and murder. The graffiti vandalism is to disrespect r...

One of the major problems of corrections today is the security threat group - more commonly known as the prison gang. A security threat group (STG) can be defined as any group of offenders who pose a treat to the security and physical safety of the institution. Throughout the 1960's and 1970's, prison gangs focused primarily on uniting inmates for self protection and the monopolization of illegal prison activities for monetary gain (F.B.P., 1994, p. 2). STGs are mostly divided along racial lines and practiced defiance towards authority. STGs use a variety of hand signs, alphabet codes, tattoos, and different types of gang terminology. Gangs characteristically have rivals and make an alliance with other gangs. The criminal activity of S.T.G.’s does not only exist inside the confines of the prison walls, but has flowed to the outside world. “Prostitution, extortion, drug selling, gambling, loan sharking – such activities are invariably operated by prison gangs” (Gaines, Kaune, Miller, 2000, p.652). The Texas Prison System consists of eleven classified security threat groups; Texas chooses to classify a gang as a STG when they become involved in violent activity. “Prison gangs exist in the institutions of forty states and also in the federal system” (Clear and Cole, 2000, p. 260). Three main stages that the offender will experience with the S.T.G. are recruitment, the gang experience, and affiliation upon release.
In addition to doing time for the offense, gang members do extra time for violent offense. The STEP Act allows for law enforcement to come up with a s...
The prison gangs that exist in the United States are a major concern for all those involved in the criminal justice system. From the humble beginnings in 1950 with the Gypsy Jokers Gang, to modern day entities like the Aryan Brotherhood, gangs have grown to numbers in the tens of thousands and are at times out of control (Orlando-Morningstar, 1997) Through the use of assault, bribery, intimidation, and murder, the gangs have become a powerful force inside and outside of prison. Law enforcement officers today have the tremendous task of arresting and maintaining discipline of these offenders once locked away in jail or prison. It is paramount that the correctional officers that are in charge of overseeing these criminals maintain the standards and are strong willed and trustworthy. The gangs inside have their own rules and laws that they abide by. The correctional officers must use the rules and laws that govern the system to keep peace and order, because with this chaos and anarchy will reign supreme.
