In the mind 19th century the United States of America encountered one of the deadliest wars to have ever been fought, known as the American Civil War. The Civil War was ignited after Abraham Lincoln became president of the United States in 1860. Although, slavery was credited to be the main reason behind the civil war, however cultural and political difference also contributed to the creation of the war. Tension had arose between northern and southern states on the topics; western expansion, state’s rights, and most importantly slavery.

The south remained with conservative mindset, while the north became more industrialized and open minded. The south strived to stick to the traditional way of life instead of evolving with northern states. The south highly depended on slave labor, and strongly opposed to the idea of change. For example, “ The South, with its plantation economy, had come to rely on enslaved labor force. The North, with its diversified industries, was less dependent on slavery (Division).” The South's farming industry highly depended of slave labor, therefore the south refused to any possible change. African American slaves were extremely cheap labor. The north became angered by the south views, therefore increasing tension between the two regions. The Southern states continued to treat African Americans as property and objects. African Americans horribly mistreated by Southerners. These events lead to the protest and resistance of the Northern regions. A famous African American civil rights activist, Harriet Beecher Stowe, published a novel displaying the horrors behind slavery in the south. The novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, effectively contributed to the protest of slavery, however the popularity of the truthful novel angered the southern states. The North strongly agreed with the contribution of the government in affairs. However, the Southern states felt bitter towards the Federal government's involvement. The South believed that their rights were being taken away from them. The State rights symbolized the Southern states opposition to the Federal government's laws against segregation and racial discrimination. The South were extremely racist and refused to the idea of possible change. The South’s everyday life depended on slavery. Therefore, when the federal government created laws to stop racial discrimination, the South felt as if their rights were being taken away from them. Another States contribution was the Presidency of Abraham Lincoln. For example,” In the year 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States of America. Lincoln was a proud republican that felt strongly against slavery in the United States. Abraham Lincoln was recognized to be an anti-slavery member (Staff).” This infuriated the South region. The South felt bitter towards Lincoln's election making the President of the United States. The South felt that Abraham was against them and that he did not care about their potential needs. Ultimately, the Federal government angered the South and contributed to the American Civil
