1. I investigated a career in Civil Engineering and chose to research a Hendricks County Highway Engineer. According to the O*NET website, the Inventory letters for this career are Realistic, Investigative and Conditional. Based on what I know about this career from the interview, these codes fit the job description well. The Realistic part of the description makes perfect sense because Civil Engineers need to be great when working with hands on problems to create solutions. According to Mr. Ayers, the person I interviewed, one of the most important qualities is to be able to work in practical and hands on situations, even if that does not mean construction models or prototypes. There are some days where Civil Engineers, such as Mr. Ayers will …show more content…
My top five core values are Security, Making Money, Doing Work I Like, Working Environment, and Helping Other People. What this means is that I want a job that pays well and I know I will not lose unless I terribly mess up a project. I would also like to have a career in which I enjoy what I do, which would be working with math, numbers, and at times with people. I would also like to be able to help others to maintain a clean and productive working environment. A Civil Engineer’s career path would allow me to have a job that pays well with an average starting salary around $55,000. By making roads, bridges, or whatever it is that I am designing I would think of that as helping people by making safer designs for the roads and bridges that they use. Also, I have previously job shadowed at a Civil Engineering company called American StructurePoint and everyone there was very kind and helpful and it seemed like a great working environment. Furthermore, if I were to graduate from Purdue with a degree in this field, I would not have much trouble finding a job thanks to Purdue’s reputation. However, this could also pose a threat because there are so many applicants for these jobs that I could lose my job to someone who appears more qualified than my future self. This would break my number one value in Security which would be difficult to live with. However, I think that I would still be able to find other work even with this degree because so much comes with it. Just like I learned from Mr. Ayers, he graduated with a degree in Civil and he no longer does any design because his degree allowed him to take on a management position
- If all of the options were explored, and patient is given antibiotics and is treated without any pain or suffering than the treatment identifies with the ethnical principles of autonomy, non-maleficence, and veracity. In turn, Mrs. Dawson will be happy with the outcome of the procedure.
The article made me revaluate my decisions. I also asked myself if I were sure of what I wanted to major in. As Brooks mentioned nowadays it’s hard for young adults to find a decent job after graduating. Not only that, but if you are in a competitive major like business, accounting, and even criminal justice, the chances of you getting a job can be very limited. I have personally seen a couple of my friends with Bachelor degrees working a fast food restaurant or doing something else, that has nothing to do with their major earning minimum wage. Many people have degrees nowadays and the hunt for jobs seems to become more competitive everyday. I still have a couple of years before I achieve my goal of getting my degree. The way the work force is getting so competitive, by the time I finally receive my bachelors degree, the chances of me finding a job are going to narrow
The question that people ask a lot is “where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years from now?” When I was presented with this question in high school MY response was “ no one can say where they’ll be, but I know whatever the future bring for me, but I know I will have multiple skills and be the best I can to what I am doing”. Ten years later I’m holding three Diplomas in PC specialist, Facilities Maintenance, Home inspection and one degree in PC maintenance. I now decided to go back to school, but this time for another degree. I have not yet held a position in any of these areas of study because of the lack of job opportunities, Resources, and requirements on a job. Even through a person who has a certification/Diploma has to generally upgrade their skills every few years to be educated on new products that are being implemented into the company for their field of work. Even thought a person who has a certification has to generally upgrade their skills every few year to keep up with newer products in their field of work Trade school students get a better opportunity with a career then college students because of the advantage of years they will have after completion Income wise.
In addition, the writer of “The Benefits of a College Degree” wrote that”One of the most important and obvious reasons to earn a college degree is to increase your earning potential”(“The Benefits”). While it is true that college is indubitably expensive, the years of learning a particular trade or skill for the future of career of these students is important and worth the cost. Also, students can apply for a variety of scholarships for different amounts of money to help pay for college and lower the amount of debt caused by schooling. Furthermore, multiple students believe that a college education is not needed for their future and that they can get good paying jobs without it. This philosophy does not apply to any good paying careers with the exception of the military and some construction jobs. The good paying jobs require at least a bachelor’s degree in many cases, except for a few that require an
In terms of net income, Applied Materials is a leader in the semiconductor machinery industry with 2015 net income of $1.377 billion (Applied Materials:10-K 2016). Exhibit 1 shows net income in more detail. ASML Holding, a Dutch company, is consistently comparable to Applied Materials with regards to net income. However, as a Dutch company, some of the financial figures are not easily comparable due to different accounting standards. Another leading semiconductor machinery company, LAM Research, has had significantly less net income over the past five years. However, LAM Research still holds a strong position in the industry as shown by its market share of 13.2% (MarketLine 2014) and relatively high-diluted EPS of $3.7 (LAM Research 10-K 2015).
Ordinary Portland cement available in local market of standard brand was used in the investigation. Care has been taken to see that the procurement made from a single batch and is stored in airtight containers to prevent it is being affected by atmospheric, monsoon moisture and humidity. The Cement is tested for its various proportions as per IS 4031-1988. The specific gravity was 3.10 and fineness was 3200 m2/Kg. The details are given in Table 4.1.1. The cement confirms to 53 Grade.

I. A construction engineer can plan, design, and build any thing from roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, bridges, dams, and water systems all over the world.
Most organizations run their businesses by the use of projects. What is a project? How can it be defined? What is project management and why has project management become so significant in today’s modern business environment? The purpose of the paper is to consider the why, what, who, when and where today that project management has become so important. Attempt to consider the history of business and project management to find these answers.
“If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life,” said by Marc Anthony. Work takes up a lot of time in your life. Because of that, one of my most important priorities is to find a job where I can enjoy doing it most of the time. Another priority for me is how much I make. I don’t want to have to worry about finances everyday and want to feel content with the amount of a variety of reasons. I choose civil engineer and software developer because the priorities matched. Both have interesting aspects of their work and, both pay enough. But these two professions have a big impact on society. Civil engineers help maintain the safety of streets and buildings while building new buildings for different purposes. At the same time, software developers build programs that help people. Both sounds critical to society today.
I plan on going to the University of Riverside, also known as UCR because of the range of opportunities it holds for its students. The school has been known for their science and engineering program, which I am interested in their engineering department. I am undecided for the most part, but a career that stands out to me is electrical engineering. A career where you can contribute to society and will surely make the world a better place is what I desire. Engineers are real world heros because they help and guide when someone is in need and are the backbone of this society. Especially, when the whole economy revolved around them because they do all intellectual work for others, like construction workers to create their ideas. Besides all the
Civil Engineering has been a part of mankind since the beginning of time. The structures of the ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Babylonians still amaze people today. Wonders like the Lighthouse of Alexandria and the Pantheon are proof that humans have the ability to construct great things. Civil Engineers design bridges to help cars get across large bodies of water and tall buildings to house hundreds of workers for a company. Most people would be surprised to learn that many of the simple things they use everyday like the sink to wash their hands and the power they use to turn on the lights has been built by civil engineers. Civil Engineers take the natural world around them and use it to their advantage to make structures that people
In terms of finance I would obviously like to be comfortable and not have money as a major daily concern. Geographically, I also don’t have any real long term goals either, although living close to the beach or mountains is basically unquestionable. I do really want to find a field where I can be creative, do hands on work, have plenty of variety in my work, and travel some. Last year I became very interested in landscape design, which then led me down the path towards green building. Ideally working for a development firm where sustainability is a major focus would be a perfect fit for me, as far as I know. I am taking a green architecture class and the LEED class this quarter and both seem to be a good fit so
Civil Engineering encompasses an array of sub-disciplines, but the one that I expect to focus on is Environmental. Civil and Environmental Engineering coincide and cannot exist without the other, without an environment that provides resources and land to build and maintain our infrastructure with our communities would fail . I feel strongly towards this discipline because it protects the environment of the communities we live in, the safety and well-being of the people that live in it, and lead to economic benefits that will continue the growth of not only the US’s economy, but around the world.
So what could a person do with a degree in civil engineering? Civil engineering is one of the most general fields in engineering, and is often considered the “liberal arts of engineering.” Civil engineering is also referred to as the “People” engineering, because wherever there is a civilization, there is a need for civil engineers. A person that possesses a degree in this field shows an understanding of mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Thus there are many different applications of jobs that a person can perform with this degree. As Jeff Olsen, a former graduate in civil engineering at the University of Cincinnati says, Fortunately for an engineer, there always seems to be room for advancement, both inside and outside of engineering. If you want to stay "engineer" your whole career, there are typically two paths an engineer takes during their career. One is to remain technical your whole career. This type of person is someone that likes sitting behind a desk doing desi...
