I screened a forty-five-month and twenty-seven-day old child named C.F. using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ). She has a nontraditional family, as her parents are together but not living in the same house. She is with her mom during weekdays and they travel to her dad’s house on weekends. Both her parents are teachers and she goes to daycare while her mom is at work. She used to have a babysitter, however, her mother enrolled her in daycare so she can be exposed to children her age. C.F. was born full-term and has not had any concerning medical problems, and her parents are healthy as well. Their apartment is baby-proofed and her parents have car seats appropriate for her height and weight. A 48-month questionnaire was utilized based on the child’s calculated age, which included communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving, personal-social, and overall performance. She was able to obey simple commands, distinguish colors and sizes, and loved to “play-act”. Her favorite is pretending to be Cinderella where she would put on her shoes and ask to wrap her in a blanket so she can have her “princess dress”, look at the clock, and ask to be chased until she leaves one shoe behind. The professional text that someone in my field would use is the ASQ-3. The ASQ-3 Ages & Stages Questionnaires is designed to screen children’s developmental performance that must be completed by the parents. It is a series of 21 questions with questions ranging in the areas from communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving, and personal-social skills specifically for 36 month to 38 month old toddlers. For the communication section, an example of a question asks is “When you ask your child to point to her ears, feet, hair, eyes, and nose, does she correctly point to at least seven body parts?”. In the gross motor section, a question ask “Does your child jump with both feet leaving the floor at the same time?”. A fine motor question that was asked was, “When drawing, does your child hold a pencil between her thumb and fingers like an adult does?”. At first glance, what makes a fairy tale a fairy tale may seem obvious—some kind of magic, hidden symbols, repetition, and of course it’s evident it’s fiction—but fables are more than that. As Arthur Schelesinger puts it, it’s about “[expanding] imagination” and gaining understanding of mysterious places (618). While doing this, it also helps children to escape this world, yet teach a lesson that the reader may not be conscious of. A wonderful story that achieves all of this is Cinderella, but not the traditional tale many American’s have heard. Oochigeaskw, or The Rough-Faced Girl, and Ashputtle would be fitting for a seven-year-old because they get the gears of the mind turning, allowing for an escape on the surface, with an underlying enlightenment for children of the ways of the world.

Fairy tales are widely studied and criticized by parents and scholars alike for their underlying tone and message to children. Peggy Orenstein, feminist author, mother, and fairy tale critic, has made it her personal mission to bring these hidden messages to the surface. The Grimm’s stories have strict criteria for good and evil. Good women are not the hero, they do not plan, nor do they get themselves out of bad situations; they are obtuse and wait until a Prince saves them. These qualities doom the female protagonists (and readers) to pursue the only destiny women have, and that is to be a wife and mother (Rowe, 1978). Cinderella is the heroine and the ideal good girl. The 1950 version of “Cinderella�, written by Walter Disney and adapted by Campbell Grant, has some differences and similarities to the Vietnamese “Tam and Cam�, by Vo Van Thang and Jim Larsen. They differ in their violent content in their stories but similarly have a great deal of magic included and also both have prevalent characters to help them find their way.
Each person in the world has heard of Cinderella, no matter what kind of version it may be. Cinderella is the one fairy tale story that has been popular and will always be the one tale that has to be told to children. Words and story lines might be twist and turn, but in the end the knowledge of the story will be learned in similar ways. As we all know when one story is told another is created, when one is at its best then another is at its worse. One version will always be better than another, but no matter what version it might be the story will be told.
The mother described the child as being a fussy infant who had trouble sleeping and would awake several times during the night. The mother also reports the child was a fussy eater, and she experienced trouble feeding her daughter during infancy and needed to switch her daughter to soy formula. Overall the mother reported that the daughter was a happy infant who smiled often. The mother reported her child being alert and responding positively to family members who visited and enjoyed playing with her toys. In regards to the development, the mother reported that her daughter seemed to be developing slower than her first child who hit certain milestones earlier.
A few months ago a girl named Cindy's parents took a vacation to America, leaving her alone with her aunt and two daughters, Tiphisha and Moya. Her parents lived in England and were extremely wealthy, and for that reason her aunt, Lorna and her daughters were jealous of Cindy and despised her very much.
The classic tale of Cinderella is well known for the fight of overcoming great obstacles despite great odds. However, there are always a few ill-hearted people who go out of their way to cease any competition that they might face, as seen with Cinderella’s step-sisters. The child that I selected to observe through the course of this semester is a Caucasian female. Her name is “R.” She was born on April 24, 2013. In today 's society, it is normal for young children to believe in fairytales. These fairytales are normally seen throughout books and movies but also through parents reading them as bedtime stories. These tales in our society have unrecognized hidden guidelines for ethics and behaviors that we provide for children. One such children 's story is Disney’s Cinderella, this film seems to be a simple tale of a young woman whose wishes work out as to be expected. This tale reflects the expectations of women 's actions and beliefs of a proper women.
Piaget believes functions of language develops over four stages which are, the sensorimotor stage, the preoperational stage, the concrete operational stage, and the formal operational stage. To briefly explain each of these children develop the sensorimotor stage from ages 0 – 2 years, Piaget sees language at this stage as more physical where children experiment with their mouths and learn to repeat parents sounds. The pre-operational stage from ages 2 – 7 years, is when children talk more and have the ability to solve problems about stories on specific and concrete facts. The concrete operational stage begins at about age 6 or 7 when children can work things out in their mind and explain their reasoning.
