On Sunday, October 12, 2014, I attended my place of work, Chuck E. Cheese, in Dublin, California. Every month, the managers and training supervisors have a meeting to discuss goals for the month, improvements since the previous meeting, ideas we may have to help enhance the company and any questions we need answered. I have always benefitted from these meetings since I am only a training supervisor and have been given the opportunity to be one of the select few employees who can experience brainstorming with others to help bring about positive changes to the restaurant. Though the traditional Chuck E. Cheese setting is extremely loud and boisterous, we have these short meeting after work hours, so the environment is extremely relaxed. The gathering included our locations general manager, the corporate regional manager, our three assistant managers, my fellow training …show more content…
Had he started with an attention grabber, versus the distraction with the visual aid, I believe his speech would not have only started stronger, but maintained that strength consistently throughout his talk. He relayed a lot of valuable information that my managers and I will retain for the future and put into use on a daily basis, but he could have improved in a few areas. It would have been nice to see him walk back and forth, even briefly, to help break up the long period of standing, opposed to sitting or leaning on the stage. This would have helped to cement more of a feeling that he was relaxed with speaking and could have made himself seem more professional. He was however very well versed on his topic and I could tell that he truly cares for the company and based on the time and energy that went into making a presentation to help make his employees more successful. Overall Mike was confident, passionate and gave a very good presentation, that with some minor improvements could have made his good speech
Poverty can be a choice or a last resort for many across the globe. The Glass Castle a memoir written by Jeannette Walls, portrays how her family rejected civilization and embraced poverty. I felt Rex Wall’s notion of “sink or swim” (Page 66) portrays the failure and success of having a family. The situation in the Wall’s hopes manifested itself as a Glass Castle, a mysterious glass house the family would hope to build and live in. In order for the family’s dream to succeed, they would have to face many demons on the way. Throughout the book, I protested against some of the choices that were made, but I soon came to an understanding that some people will not change the way they live. I kept on thinking there always a possibility that there is always a cure to a problem, but sometimes there is too little time or understanding on both sides. A common theme that kept on going
Another big part of the delivery was hand gestures and movements. He started by sitting next to a small table during his speech. But, by the end he was up and walking all over the stage as the message got more intense and more meaningful as he approached his conclusion. I found it helpful instead of distracting. It was more entertaining, allowing me to focus in on him instead of daydreaming in my
While analyzing the speech, I notice how he isn’t shaky from nervousness or his voice’s pitch getting higher which makes him confident, is already prepared of what he wants to talk about, and therefore does not cause any distractions towards the audience. His voice tone is at his natural state as I assume as it calm, not quick to rush words out, and engages the audience by not bringing
Perhaps, also wondering if it actually will be informative for an individual can be something very intimidating. Kevin chose to talk about the World cup, something that has never brought much entertainment to me. The way that Kevin was talking, with so much passion shown to his audience caught my attention, not to mention the humor he used along with it. Presenting a speech to the class is as if one was having an ongoing conversation with strangers and letting them know why the topic brings so much interest to you. Not to mention, one must seem into it to not lose the audience interest, which is what Kevin did. Kevin used hand gestures letting the audience or perhaps myself know that he was actually meaning what he was
However, there are some things that McRaven could have done better in his speech. First of all, he could have used hand gestures to help him convey his message better. Second, McRaven reads from a paper on the podium for about one-third of the time of the duration of his speech. For the rest of the time, he makes eye contact with the audience, which is essential to make a connection with the audience. Finally, McRaven should not have been licking his lips so often because it can be distracting for some people. Despite all of this, he delivers his speech clearly, which is what matters the
During this week, there were many opportunities to offer advice along with timely and appropriate critique to my peers and colleges as well. While rounding in the SICU, a group of employees was having a conversation directly outside of the patient room; the volume was such that I could hear the discussion. The conversation was about another patient. There were a family member in the room that I was in and if I heard them the family members did as well. Upon completing the visited I shared my thought
The speaker organized the presentation very well and made it easy to follow for the audience. She chose words that got the message across clearly and were not difficult to understand. Since this was targeted at a younger audience, she simplified the concepts and was very specific. The sentences of the speech were structured appropriately, and had no grammatical errors. She also included some transitions in between, especially when moving from one idea to the next which made the flow
Acculturation wasn 't a term thatmany characters experienced in the movie, “Soul Food”. But one of the characters that experienced acculturation was Teri or Auntie Teri, who was the Aunt of the main character and narrator of the film. Teri, who was one of three sisters in the film, was the most successful sister in her family as far as financial stature. Teri 's parents moved to Chicago, after hardships of discrimination they faced as African Americans in Mississippi. Chicago was a new start for the parents and they sacrificed for their children by working at hard labor jobs. Teri, being studious in academics, became a lawyer. Success stories as far as going to college and earning high payed money from a career, isn 't immense in the African
However, I did notice that there were a few faults in the presentation, one being a fault that I personally consider may have negatively impacted our presentation. It seems to me that I was not able to deliver the presentation to the best of my ability as I had let my nerves get the best of me when talking to the staff. The reason for this was that I was not comfortable with taking on the speaking role that I was given and that there were last minute changes made to my slides right before presenting. Bruner, (1996) stated that the learning process for staff relies on the “meaningful dialogue” that is presented by the presenters. In this case, I think that my speech was not strong enough to grab the audience’s attention, thus not being able to portray my message about what an Ofsted inspection is and what the results from an Ofsted inspection mean. Nevertheless, although I was not able to present to the quality that I had wished, the feedback received was reassuring that I had not done terribly bad. I was able to see myself grow as a presenter as I noticed that my
Ever since I was little I remember playing games where I would fight the bad guy and win the girl in the end. This never seem to affect me or make me wonder what small effect it had on my thought process. In games such as Zelda, call of duty, assassin creed, gears of war, Mario, and even halo you play as a white heterosexual male. The idea of playing this way never seemed to phase me as a young child. As I grew up and became more aware of the difference of people and the need for other as well as myself a need to be able to connect and find one 's self in different place such as games, movies, and TV shows. I became aware of the one sided views that video games seem to have. Then I realized that it was seen as acceptable to only have the one sided displayed due to the lack of speaking out on the need for change.
Prior to watching the original version of Godzilla, created by Tomoyuki Tanaka in 1954, I had portrayed the story and the character as something that was more comical and less meaningful, being that it was created simply just for the entertainment of the audience. However, after viewing it in class, I come to realize that the film had a serious and deep underlying message behind it that greatly resonated with the catastrophic events that had taken place in Japan; during and post-World War II. Furthermore, I believe the central theme and conflict that is being portrayed in Godzilla is man versus technology, and that Godzilla is a giant metaphor for the disastrous technological results of the atomic bombing in 1945.
On the other hand, Mr. Agusto provided good credibility by talking about his background in law. The structure of Mr. Bailey’s speech also seemed all over the place and unorganized, while Mr. Agusto’s speech looked well planned out. Especially with his PowerPoint as a visual aid. On the contrary, Mr. Bailey’s visual aids were him drawing on the board and his books. It is quite visible that not everyone can see what is written on the board so his visual aid didn’t really contribute.
Sadly, I was wrong. My class is a rather large class so this rendered her voice projection. I sit in the very back and I could barely hear what she was saying. Not only was this a cause of her voice projection being low but she had a quieter voice in general, causing this to be another smaller weakness, but not one of my top. Also, it’s nice to see people when they talk. Another weakness I noticed was this presenter said, “Um,” in almost every sentence. Sometimes she would use it twice. This was distracting. I almost couldn’t pay attention to what she was saying because of this word being used so many times. The last weakness this presenter had was using grammar not many people could understand. She warned us in the beginning that we could write down the words we were unsure of and ask her about them once the speech was over.
Friday January 15, 2016 I walked into work and clocked in at 3pm. I did what I do every Friday, which is set up the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino’s land and sea buffet. With my usual buffet crew Jackie, Dale, Michael and Jeremiah. I had Michael gathering utensils for the food, Jeremiah filling our crab boats with ice to keep our seafood and salads fresh. Dale was setting up our carving station for the prime rib and seared ahi tuna. I asked Jackie to double check with the kitchen on our chaffer count, we use them to keep the food warm. I was using my down time to read chapters four and five in my English book. I had a quiz due by midnight on those chapters. Throughout the night I tried to read those chapters and
Humanity Humanity, the quality or state of being human. To society, humanity is the characteristics that define the human species as a whole, thinking, feeling, and acting human. I cannot accept what society defines as humanity, for it only applies to the human specie, and that it is idealistically too narrow. To me, humanity or being human is for any being to think and act under one’s own free will, to live a life that they decide. The human species possess a fascinating ability that few other living species have.
