Michelle Zimbalist Rosaldo, a professor at Stanford University, wrote an article entitled: Women, culture and society: a theoretical vision. In her article, she mentioned: "[The woman] has to take care of the children, feed and clean them, perform the unpleasant tasks, it is much more difficult for them to manipulate or control their public image, their image, their familiarity can lead to contempt , which will harm them. " The society suggested that women were weaker than men. They were the ones who were supposed to do domestic work. Therefore, the women had to stay at home and obey their husband. In addition, the girl was at the bottom of society. Ángela Vicario's parents forced her to marry Bayardo San Román although she did not want to. Angela could not make her own decisions under the authority of her parents. His parents used it as an instrument to exchange the fortunes and family connections of Bayardo. It was clear her family did not have much money. Norma’s older mother worked along side her, as well as her father and they lived in a small house. It was clear by the end of the film that by unionization, most of her economic issues were resolved by the union as well as marriage. Another big lesion throughout her life was her lack of a husband. After the death of her husband she lived with her parents. The only possible way to overcome and heal this wound was to get married. By marrying Sonny in essence, this wound was healed, though I think at first it was just made worse. Her lesion of being unwed turned into a lesion of being wed. Sonny was angry with Norma due to her choices of the union over family time. This wound was not fully healed until she realized her marriage with Sonny was healthy and that Sonny truly did love her and would never leave or cheat on her. Finally, a lesion that affected Norma throughout her life was her sexuality. She had sex with multiple men, had children from two different men, and was even accused of making a sex tape. Though it did not seem like Norma was directly affected by her sexual past, others made her feel like she was immoral or lower than those who did not have a history. The union mentioned a sex tape was floating around and Norma was forced to tell her children about her past due to the gossip in town. This lesion is something
Thesis Statement: Men and women were in different social classes, women were expected to be in charge of running the household, the hardships of motherhood. The roles that men and women were expected to live up to would be called oppressive and offensive by today’s standards, but it was a very different world than the one we have become accustomed to in our time. Men and women were seen to live in separate social class from the men where women were considered not only physically weaker, but morally superior to men. This meant that women were the best suited for the domestic role of keeping the house. Women were not allowed in the public circle and forbidden to be involved with politics and economic affairs as the men made all the

The plot of Chronicle of a Death Foretold is totally based on the understanding that maintaining a woman’s virginity is important enough to kill for and conversely that anyone violating this social moray was risking death. Women “were expected to bear children, stay home, cook and clean, and take care of the children” (Cobb 29). They were expected to be weak, timid, domestic, emotional, dependent, and pure. Why do people celebrate death? Many people including myself have wondered this, and when I first heard of the mexican holiday Dia De Los Muertos. Translated in english, day of the dead is a holiday where instead of mourning lost ones they remember their lost ones by making alters, decorating their graves with things they used to like or their favourite food and celebrate their life. This mexican tradition is now celebrated throughout the united states aswell and this year we decided to dedicate alters to people we lost in the battle against police brutality. We have lost so many souls in the past decade that a black lives matter movement was created. Its sad that it even had to get to this point but all we can do now is fight for change and
This is degrading to women and breaks them down. Columbia's culture teaches women to be ready to suffer. Angela's mother, Purísima del Carmen, is married to Poncio Vicario, Angela's father. In Latin America, women are treated differently from men and children. They do lots of work for unexplainable reasons. Others for religious reasons and family orders and others because of the men involved. Women are like objects to men and have to obey their orders to either be rich or to live. Some have sex to get the men’s approval, others marry a rich man that they don’t even know very well, and become slaves. An important book called Chronicles of a Death Foretold is an example of how these women are treated. Purisima del Carmen, Angela Vicario's mother, has raised Angela and her sisters to be good wives. The girls do not marry until late in life, rarely socializing beyond the outsides of their own home. They spend their time sewing, weaving, washing and ironing. Other occupations include arranging flowers, cleaning up the house, and writing engagement letters to other men. They also keep the old traditions alive, such as helping the sick, comforting the dying, and covering the dead. While their mother believes they are perfect, men view them as too tied to their women's traditions. The men are afraid that the women would pay more attention to their job more than the men. Throughout the book, the women receive the respect they deserve from the men and others around them.

Women's roles were confined to a small list of responsibilities. As a result, they were seen as a minority. Society convinced women that they weren't capable of performing any work outside of the home. They were to stay home to cook, clean, take care of the children, and any other aspect involving the home. This was their sole responsibility. There wasn't anything else they were allowed or expected to do. Unfortunately this frame of mind developed in women and until only recently has this mindset been challenged by the female gender.
