Many people go onto social media and see a famous or influential celebrity figure starting a new trend. This trend may be ungodly or morally incorrect, but since the famous person stated it many may feel the need to do it. This can pressure a Christian to follow the lead of the famous person’s life instead of God. These trends can also make Christians feel they need to change to “fit in” or be popular. The greatest example of this is how people try to change their looks. Many will use photoshop on pictures of change their actual bodies with surgery. People are always worried about not being pretty enough of trying to be perfect. Nobody's perfect except God. Being on social media can cause people to not finish their job or not do the job at all. In the end social media is just a good waste of time. There are so many better things to do than be on social media, but many think it is the most important thing in
As Christians begin to try to reach out to more people in America, the first world nation’s culture has slowly begun to infiltrate into the very structure of the church. Today, American churches operate in a very different way than the intended recipients of the scriptures. Through the way individuals choose a new church, to how the family is supposed to reflect the church, to how the government and church connect, and finally how social media is utilized during worship, culture has helped create what the 21st century American churches look like.
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Even though social media can bring you closer to those people, it destroys the relationship with the people who are reachable. It disconnects the user from the reality. Some might oppose by saying that they can learn abundant new things from social media. Social Media is not all about bullying or insulting, but it can be about exploring new things by reading someone else’s blog or posts from a news reporter. You can learn things from it that you have never heard of.
Lastly, students who use social networking applications very little or do not use them at all can be positively affected because they have a lot more time to complete homework, study, sleep, and practice good eating habits. Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because kids are always wondering what their friends are doing and what is happening outside of school. If they have access to their phones all day, then they will be glued to them. Phones are more entertaining than a teacher lecturing at the front of the class. Most students will start to zone out, or fall asleep, when a teacher starts a lesson. It is always easier to focus on something when you are interested in it. For example, it is much easier to remember a song rather than a study guide. Twitter, where kids post what is going on, is more interesting than algebra or biology. Social media is a watering hole out in the safari. Everyone wants to be there, around all of the activity.

American was built on Judeo-Christian principles and American Journalists naturally draw on Christian values (Chiung, 2009). However, in today’s society, most Christians and other evangelicals face numerous obstacles in their respective professions (Ecklund, 2004). Ecklund (2004) asserts that Christian journalists are marginalized in the field. According to Clements (1999), “this brings us to the real dilemma for Christians working in the secular world of news (p. 36). Despite working in the media, journalists and other members of the press cannot freely write on any subjects they may find meaningful without the authorization of their editors first (Clements, 1999).
Social media although a great tool can become an addiction ultimately affecting our lives and state of mind. That is why we need to limit the amount of time and information we share on social networks. Although the internet is a tool full of good and bad available to everyone, teenagers and young adults are more prone to falling into the traps of the internet. People also abuse social media and overuse it every day because they are concerned with what is happening every hour. Social media is a tool not a necessity and should never be abused or used as a diary because it could result in unwanted consequences that can hurt us in the future.
With the way the world is now it should not be a surprise to anyone that social media has literally taken over the world in this day and age. From late 2008 to early 2009 the size of Facebook users doubled from 100 million to 200 million in eight months, and was already up to 400 million by early 2010. Twitter also raised its number of users in 2009 from 4.5 million to 20 million (Zandt). These numbers just show what Facebook and Twitter have accomplished. Other social media sites that are getting more and more popular are Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Pinterest, and many others social media websites that people use on a daily basis. With one in four people using social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, it is no wonder that all of these social media websites are considered to be important (Whiteman). With a few clicks of a button or taps on a screen, a person can be connected to family and friends in every corner of the world. Social media can even allow people to see what their favorite celebrities are doing with their lives.
