Christian Grey suffers from sexual sadism disorder. According to Comer (2014), the disorder is defined as, “a paraphilic disorder characterized by repeated and intense sexual urges, fantasies, or behaviors that involve inflicting suffering on others” (354). Christian does just that be acting as a dominant in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie and book series. He finds pleasure by signing contracts with fifteen different submissives before committing to a more romantic relationship. His behaviors include restraining, whipping, blindfolding, and spanking in a room that holds all of his tools and toys. Comer discusses that some people who suffer from sexual sadism disorder choose to act on their urges with nonconsenting victims. However, Christian makes sure that a well drawn out contract is signed before actions are taken with the submissives. His disorder goes beyond the sexual relations that involve inflicting pain on women. Christian’s contracts make it known to the women that they are to be loyal to only him and they follow his every order. He then finds enjoyment and arousal from knowing that he has total control over these women’s lives in and out of the bedroom. Comer even says that some psychodynamic theorists suggest that the want for a sense of power and dominance can be due to the person with the disorder having underlying feelings of sexual inadequacy. Christian attempts to shower the women that he inflicts pain on with expensive gifts such as helicopter rides, cars, laptops, and clothes. A psychodynamic theorist would argue that the gifts help a sadist feel powerful and in control of their victims and persuade the women to want to do as he says for his own personal sexual
The way the sisters go about living their spiritual life has a touch of Peter Berger’s idea of masochism to it as well. In Mariette’s talks with Père Marriott, she says, “as I began to meditate on the crucifixion and Christ’s own trials in this world, I became rapt in thought and I found myself again before Jesus, who was suffering such terrible pain…An unquench...

Ted Bundy’s style of killing describes sexual sadism. Sexual sadism is the intense sexually arousal by the thought or act of inflicting suffering on others by dominating, restraining, blindfolding, cutting, strangling, mutilating, or even killing the victim (Comer, 2011). This condition would fall under Axis I because it causes significant impairment.

Freud (1940) was the first to do the link between sexual abuses during the childhood and adult abnormal behavior. As a result of that serial killer uses sex as a way to let out his or her anger and aggression. The sexually acts of the serial killer is not only about sex, but it is about revenge, power, and control. “Serial killers are unconsciously trying to kill off their repressed sexual pain and powerlessness. Every stab into the victim’s flesh is a stab against their own childhood sexual terror and pain, and the rage that accompanies it is a rage against those who tormented and terrorized” (Knight, 2006, p. 1199-1200).

Accordingly, this emphasis has impacts on the types of pleasure that men request and want to receive that primarily focuses on their pleasure and not that of the women (Kimmel & Holler, 2011, p. 292). Hence, this demonstrates the power of men that is demonstrated by the domination and the submission of women within the sexual interaction (Kimmel & Holler, 2011, p. 124). Thus, gender inequality is reproduced whereby the male is the recipient focus of power (Kimmel & Holler, 2011, p. 291). Additionally, this sex with a prostitute will assist the man in gaining hegemonic status due to his conforming behaviours to the masculinity type (Kimmel & Holler, 2011, p.
The next topic of the essay was how sexuality correlated with aggression. Several tests were given out to both men and women asking them whether they saw themselves as very passionate or not at all, but with the men's test they correlated being passionate with aggression, where as they didn't do that with the women. This test showed that men are more assertive than women in relationships. Men also initiate touching and other sexual things. Rape is considered the extreme link between aggression and sexuality. This being said, there are tendencies in men of showing the wrong kind of aggression in relationships that could lead to rape.
Zlotnick, Mattia, Zimmerman (2001) found that patients with a history of childhood sexual abuses are at higher risk for psychiatric morbidity and prolonged depression. The study was conducted using 235 patients at a psychiatric outpatient facility with an range of 18-65 with a mean age of 47.4 years.
At the age of nine, her nineteen-year-old cousin sexually abused her. Adding to the sexual abuse, her uncle molested her at the age of fourteen-years-old (Adler 13). In a book about her life, she exclaims “I know what it is like to lie in bed and know that the other person is there, and you are pretending you are asleep, hoping he won’t touch you” (Adler 15). While growing up, she moved around a lot and as a young child, she would receive harsh chastisement and whippings as punishment for wrongdoing (“Oprah Winfrey”). Although she had a rough childhood, she did not let that stop her from growing into a strong
Temptation is usually described as an effort to allure to do something, which is often regarded as unwise, wrong, or immoral. “People tend to respond to temptation depending critically on their visceral state” (Loran, Eileen, 2011). In Temptation Judith was portrayed as an uncommon young lady that the average man would only come upon on rare occasions simply because of her religious beliefs and moral values. Due to Judith’s initial un-waivered personality her Christian beliefs and practices displayed how she represented The Other. Judith’s “I don’t believe in sex before marriage” (Areu, Hall, Perry & Perry, 2013) statement caused her to be a part of The Other according to today’s society. It is out of societal norms for someone to practice sex before marriage which caused Judith’s practices to be viewed as different. Throughout Judit...
Necrophilia is comprised of a large scale of actions and fantasies (UCSB1). Experts have made subcategories to aid in clarifying the spectrum of necrophilic actions and fantasies (UCSB1). The first subcategory is necrophilic fantasies. “Necrophilic fantasies” are simply fantasies of sexual contact with the deceased (UCSB1). The second subcategory, “pseudonecrophilia,” is defined as secluded episodes of sexual contact with a cadaver with no prior necrophilic fantasies or yearnings (UCSB1). The third subcategory is necrosadism. “Necrosadism” is described as, “a paraphilia in which one derives sexual pleasure from violent actions performed on a corpse, such as mutilation or the drinking of blood” (UCSB1). The final subcategory, necrophilic homicide, is like necrosadism, but differs in the fact that the crime of killing a victim to acquire a cadaver is a part of the fantasy (UCSB1).
To be honest, the first time I read Fifty Shades of Grey, it was for the illicit sex. The second time was to process what I read. The third, fourth and fifth times was to delve deeper into Mr. Grey’s neurological and psychological impulses. Something about his mannerisms, and the way he interacted with others, spoke to me on a profound level.
