Numerous people enter counseling since they are experiencing tremendous heartache and disappointment. And several are feeling conquered by life occurrences. There are married couples who frequently encounter relationships issues. Then, there are parents who undergo crisis with their children or family members, and of course millions of individuals are faced with mental health issues, along with substance abuse problems that are tearing their family apart.
For that reason, various people prefer Christian Family Counseling for seeking a biblical approach to solving the challenges they are confronted with in their day to day life. God has summoned all his people to seek wisdom when faced with crisis situations. Therefore, the role of a Christian

The concepts are; Prayer, Scripture, Sin, Confession, Forgiveness, and Redemption. The question of prayer has always been somewhat controversial in the counseling arena. One may ask” Should counselors pray with client before a session begin? Some will say yes, because prayer is crucial to every Christian practice, however, others will say no, feeling that counselors should stay away from including spirituality in counseling. (McMinn, 2011 p.77) McMinn states that there are seven different types of prayer Christian counselors can implement while counseling clients. McMinn (2011) concludes that praying silently or outside counseling sessions is not harmful to the client. The second concept McMinn addressed is Scripture use. Although the use of scripture is controversial among some persons, McMinn (2011) stresses the it is a powerful tool and it is our most important technique of perceiving who God is( p.
Throughout reading Caring for People God Way, Chapter 1, I began to ponder the question why do people chose to come to Christin counseling? If a person thinks about it, just because a person wants to attend Christian counseling does not mean, they are Christian person or they believe in Christ. A person may have to console and induvial who has problem does not go to church. According to Clinton, Hart and Ohlschlager (2005), “they believe that Christ is facilitated by a helper who assist this redemption process, helping another get unstuck and moving forward on the path too spiritual maturity and psycho-social-emotional health” (p.16). Christian counseling allows the person to confront their internal conflict. People attend Christian counseling because they feel
Sometimes individuals consider becoming counselors after overcoming some major life challenge such as addiction or a history of bad relationships. Perhaps an individual has encountered a particularly effective counselor or therapist and has a desire to follow in those footsteps. Others may have had a bad experience with counseling and concluded that it can be done better. People do not think of this work so much as a job, or even as a career. More typically, a constellation of life experiences that demand explanation and a sense that others seek one out for assistance and emotional sustenance become driving forces leading one toward the counseling profession” (An invitation to). .

I have been a pastor for more than a decade. Being a pastor counseling has become an essential part of a ministry. As a community leader of Nepalese society, I have so much obligation for the community also. Most importantly counseling both Christian and non-Christian carefully utilizing prayer and scriptures in counseling have been such a challenge in the past. Many families come to me with several problems, requiring help to struggling couples in a relationship, youth, and children in school and with pears & in the home. This book, “Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling,” (McMinn, 2011) has opened my eyes unfolding an understanding of why psychology, theology and spiritually should be integrated, how it is possible to work
I no longer have to ponder about what kind of counselor I would like to be. I would avoid being an A, B, or C type of counselor as depicted in McMinn. I want to be confident in the type of counseling I give my clients, strongly knowing that I can rely on my faith to assist me in making decisions to better their lives. I will use the methods as explained by McMinn examination and rationale as a reference point to launch myself to counsel others. McMinn offers clarity to set up a mental well-being, underscoring on the accompanying of human advancement, spiritual development, and mental change. In my reflection, I communicated that we should address the foundational makeup of humans: spirit, soul, and the mind because the consciousness is the centered that links the body and soul to internal mending. I have a deep appreciation of the author’s text as his book has given an excellent point of view towards how I would lead my session, set up my strategies and know the right moment the right moment to introduce prayer to a counselee. I will be open minded to a counselee when they are confessing their sins, teach them how to forgive themselves and those that hurt them, and finally, How to

Therefore in counseling, I need to self evaluate and reflect on what is occurring, especially in theological and contextual background. Life does not happen in a vacuum. Human beings are influenced by social issues, social roles, the communities that they are a part of, and their relationships. I strongly agree that we must locate the person within the family system and relationships, as people are comprised of loyalties, commitments, roles, expectations, unwritten rules, and so much more. The role of the counselor is to guide individuals in balancing the various parts and expectations that create tensions. I am not as interested in why problems are occurring, but rather how can be manage the issues in order to resolve and heal from them. We must understand the past in order to move

One aspect I found striking was the role of advice giving in counseling. Prior to this class, I knew that counselors did not typically give opinions or advice to lead a client in a certain direction. What I did not know was the entire reasoning behind this. A counselor might avoid giving advice so that a client learns to make his/her own decisions, does not become dependent on the counselor, and to ensure that a client will not later blame the counselor if the counselor’s advice did not turn out well. In this context, I have a better appreciation and understanding of why therapists refrain from telling the client what to do.
