To be on the road for long periods of time is not meant for everyone to experience. Only a few can stay on the road and function normally. Living in the wild is not healthy especially for our generation who, for the most part, does not know much about living in the wild. When you search up the definition of wildlife it comes up as "wild animals collectively; the native Fonda of a region". Wildlife is another way of living however, when our generation has become accustomed to living one type of lifestyle, living on the road or in the wild is not something that can be easily done. Not only is our generation used to living that type of way also the way our society looks at things to live in the wild and on the road is completely unethical. Even though it is possible to live out in the wild Chris Mccandles is a great example on why people should not be on the road. Living on the road is completely difficult and not only does it take a strong-minded and determined person to do it also takes physically strong person to …show more content…
Prove to me that living in the wild is not as easy as it looks. Are always obstacles and I feel like eventually one's mental capacity will not be able to take that. Mccandles always had to deal with mess like his Datsun being caught in a flash flood and having to continue to travel on foot, also always having to work odd jobs to get a little bit of money. Even though he was given opportunities it just seems like things were not working out for him. Seeing Mccandles go through these situations shows me it takes a lot more than just dreams to live out in the wild. You have to have the right components to be out in the wild for example a car that can withstand Many things, and most of all finances. Without those you will experience the same trials and tribulations as Chris Mccandles that in his
Although Chris McCandless' life at home growing up was hounded by his so called "ignorant" father or his "bigot" parents, made the best out of his life whenever he could. He was on the cross country team when he was younger, and they all ran out into the wild almost, purposely getting lost. Being on that team and experiencing that made him happier and started his interest and passion for embracing nature. Chris even found solace and was content with providing food, such as hamburgers, stated by his cross country teammate Eric Hathway, providing company to people less fortunate than him. Taking hikes with his grandfather and doing things as mentioned previously (cross country), eventually influenced him to make his greatest adventure and unbeknownst
Although it may be true that Chris McCandles was stubborn, people should consider that he had family problems, he loved nature and he also had an adventurous spirit. I believe that the motives that led him to the wild were family problems and emotional damage as well as his love of nature and his adventurous spirit. In Chris’s journal it seemed like he had lived for 113 days in that “magic bus” but in his last days he had written that “death looms” and that he was “too weak to walk out”. There are many evidence that connect with family problems as well as his adventurous spirit. As I go on with this essay I will state my theory on why Chris was led into the wild as well as evidence that support my claim.
Throughout Into the Wild, Krakauer portrays Christopher McCandless as an infallibly eager young man hoping to distance himself from the society he so obviously loathes, to "live off the land," entirely independent of a world which has "conditioned [itself] to a life of security." Chris, contrarily to this depiction, is disparagingly viewed by some as a "reckless idiot" who lacked the sense he needed to survive in the Alaskan wilderness. This derogatory assessment of Chris's mindset is representative of the society he hopes to escape and contains all the ignorance that causes him to feel this way. Nevertheless, he is misjudged by these critics, allowing Krakauer to hold the more accurate interpretation of Chris's character, his goals, and his accomplishments.
...elligence to help him last an extended period of time in the Alaskan wilderness. In truth, McCandless was someone who wanted to find himself. He wanted to get away from a life in which he could not find fulfilment, which is something many others would be able to relate to. Although most people would not go to such extremes to find fulfilment, everyone has a different way of finding happiness and going after what their heart truly desires. For McCandless, his desire was to live out in the wild. Unfortunately, this man of great character did not succeed in getting out alive. However, that does not change the fact that he tried. McCandless knew what he wanted for himself and he persisted, regardless of the obstacles he faced. He put an incredible amount of effort into accomplishing his goals and never gave up, and that is why Christopher McCandless is someone to admire.
Life is a form of progress- from one stage to another, from one responsibility to another. Studying, getting good grades, and starting the family are common expectations of human life. In the novel Into the Wild, author Jon Krakauer introduced the tragic story of Christopher Johnson McCandless. After graduating from Emory University, McCandless sold of his possessions and ultimately became a wanderer. He hitchhiked to Alaska and walked into the wilderness for nearly 4 months. This journey to the 49th state proved fatal for him, and he lost his life while fulfilling his dream. After reading this novel, some readers admired the boy for his courage and noble ideas, while others fulminated that he was an idiot who perished out of arrogance and
Chris McCandless was a graduate from college whose dream was to go into the Alaskan wilderness and live there to get an overall experience of living off the land. McCandless wanted to experience how to hunt and gather everything that he needed to live in the Alaskan Wilderness. However was it a good idea when Mccandless went into the wild. Many people on his adventure tried to help him by giving him some equipment or buy him some because he wasn't prepared for his adventure. After McCandless’s death to this date people would say that McCandless is an idiot or stupid for not being prepared for the Alaskan wilderness.
Herbert Otto, an esteemed author, once wrote, “Change and growth take place when a person has risked themselves and dares to become involved in experimenting with their own life” (Wilderdom: A Project in Natural Living & Transformation). Essentially, Otto is saying that in order to grow as a person and become educated, one must break free from what bring him or her comfort, which allows him or her to be daring and adventurous. Christopher McCandless holds a similar view point on education and experimentation or adventure, which can be seen in Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild. McCandless believes that once people find a way to break free from the default and comfortable setting that so many of us function on, are we able to discover our adventurous
In John Krakauer’s novel Into The Wild, the reader follows the life of a young man who, upon learning of his father’s infidelity and bigamy, seems to go off the deep end, isolating himself by traveling into the wild country of Alaska, unprepared for survival, where he died of starvation at 67 pounds.
Chris McCandless was an ordinary person before he decided to make a decision that would in the end change his life drastically, people ask was he an idiot or not? I believe he was more onto the idiot side. He went to one of the best colleges in the united states and would make quite a bit of money. But no he made the decision to go into the wild. Untrained and weak he went off into the wild, no care in the world. He lasted 112 days and died of starvation but on his way he ate a poisonous plant which made him very sick, this is why when you go off into the wild you should know what your plan is and how you're going to accomplish your task/goal.
In the book Into The Wild, there is a man that had ventured off when he was about 22 years old. He had a pretty good life prior to him venturing off. His parents had fairly well off jobs; his father being an antenna specialist for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA); and his mother worked as a secretary at Hughes Aircraft. After some time, his mother and father started their own business that was a home-based consulting company that ended up being very successful. His parents, and family friend (who gave him $24,000 to continue into law school) wanted him to pursue the opportunity to go into law school, which everyone had high hopes for him. He had the great grades in college, awesome work ethics, he had it all; but one day he just went off without notice, and went on an adventure to find enlightenment and self discovery. In Chris McCandless’s life, people would argue that his life was about discovery and enlightenment, or ignorance and loss because it does seem that he gives up everything good in his life on a foolish walk-about; but others see that life isn't just about materialistic items, it's more of peace at mind, freedom of doing what you want, not being governed by the rules, or laws around you, and that life is just more than what people give you, it's about being natural, freeing yourself from everything; and I believe that his life was about discovery and enlightenment, and I do think he had found that exact thing.
It’s curious how sometimes the ones with a dark past have the brightest future. Maybe it’s because surviving tough childhoods makes you stronger, and makes you realize what it’s really important or maybe it just that it can make people give value to simple things. Maybe the only solution to not let that ruin your life is seeking for what you never had. Chris McCandless was one of those kids. McCandless was incredibly intelligent and friendly and charismatic, but something about him didn’t seem to be okay. Chris McCandless was exceptional, he looked like he could achieve anything he wanted, but his past came in the way and he gave his life trying to find a meaning to it.
Living in the wild is peaceful, quiet, and has so many amazing views. That leaves the question of why people would want to leave? Living in the wild isn't an easy thing to do. Many challenges come up like food, safe places to rest, interest, and other responsibilities could keep you from staying. All of those things were factors in why a case like Chris McCandless tried to leave his home in the wild. Chris McCandless was a well off man out of college who tried to live his life on the road. He was found dead in the Alaskan wild in 1992. It shows that he died slowly and that raises the question of why didn’t he leave, and reasons why he would want to leave such great scenery.
In the novel Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless pursues his own idea of the “American dream”. He abandoned his vehicle, family, money, home and possessions to embark on a journey different than any other. Chris McCandless after graduating from Emory University as a top student of his class, had finally satisfied his parents wishes. However, for Chris the graduation meant nothing but good bye to his old ways. The life that he had once lived, will no longer exist. He would go by a new name Alex. A nomad with a dream to get to Alaska. Chris’s journey took him to various new places, creating new bonds with people from various different positions in
John Krauker wrote a book and Sean Penn made a film about Chris McCandless’s journey Into the Wild. McCandless has a different point of view about life, but we all have a different view about everything. I don’t agree with Callarman’s statement that said, “McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense…” was wrong because I don’t think that he was crazy. I just think he had a different view on life, then the rest of us. He said the things that we all think about, but we are just scared to say anything. We all just fall into the way society wants us to be when he was different and followed his own thoughts. Chris should be admired because he went out to find himself and wanted to get away from what everyone else wanted to be.
The book Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer, was a very interesting story about a young man going to live out in the wild of Alaska. This young mans name is Chris McCandless also known as Alex Supertramp. He had a lot of courage to go out this trip facing the wild. He has set high hopes for how young he is. Graduating college than leaving directly after graduating and burned all of his money and left his car and most possessions behind. His bravery definitely had a big impact on the story. With his bravery, it seemed like he has done this before and has no weariness. Chris was very independent on his trip. He received little help from people. He got work a few times to buy gear for his trip to Alaska, other than that he was either hitch hiking or walking.
