Have you ever thought about what is life like as an astronaut? Well luckily I will take you on a journey of Chris Hadfield’s life. The journey begins in Sarina August 29th 1959, when Chris Hadfield was born. He was raised in Milton Ontario. Let's skip forward to 1995 where Chris Hadfield got older and intelligent. He served as a Mission Specialist 1 on STS-74 NASA’S second space shuttle mission to rendezvous and dock the Russian Space Station. As a matter of fact, he was the first Canadian to board MIR (Russian Space Station) and operate the Canadarm in Orbit on the mission. Then in April 2001 Hadfield worked as a Mission Specialist on STS-100 ISS assembly of Flight 6-A. The crew of Space Shuttle Endeavour delivered and installed Canadarm2 …show more content…
as well as Italian made resupply module Raffaello. During the 11-day trip he performed two space walks which made him the first Canadian to float freely in space for about 14 hours and 54 minutes and travel around the world world 10 times in space. The next mission Chris Hadfield was on was Expedition 34/35 September 2010. On December 19 2012 he launched aboard aboard the Russian Soyuz, enroute to becoming the second Canadian to take part in the long duration space flight aboard the ISS. March 13th he became the first Canadian to command a spaceship as a commander of the ISS during the second portion of his stay in space. In fact you may ask how has Chris Hadfield made a difference in people's lives. Well in June 2010 Hadfield was part of the Pavilion Lake research team. That lake was few places on Earth where microbialites are found. Chris helped the team understand how microbialites are formed and possibly make it easier to find extraterrestrial life on future mission to Mars. In addition Hadfield took social media like no astronaut before him, he wasn't the first one to tweet or post videos he was very active and neat at it. He also hosted “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit before he travelled to the ISS. Ask Me Anything was a hit, kids were asking questions and Hadfield answered them. The university students were glad that he answered their questions and that made their lives change. Next I will tell you about Chris Hadfield background and childhood. He was raised on a corn farm in Southern Ontario. Hadfield became really interested in flying at a very young age. When he was 15 he won a glider pilot scholarship and the year after that he won a powered pilot scholarship. He also taught skiing and ski racing part and full time for 10 years. His parents (Roger & Eleanor Hadfield) were really helpful ,when he was in school they motivated him and encouraged him to study and be what he wants to be. Lastly Chris Hadfield is married to Helene Hadfield they have three children ( sons Evan Hadfield and Kyle Hadfield daughter Kristin Hadfield). Furthermore Following a wonderful childhood he became a very successful man who achieved many goals in his career.
Down below are his major achievements; Chris graduated High School as an Ontario Scholar in 1997. He received a bachelor's degree with honours in 1982. He conducted Postgraduate Research the same year. Chris acquired Master of Science in 1992. In addition during 1996 he earned Honorary Doctorate of Engineering. Hadfield collected many Medals one of them was NASA Exceptional Service Medal 2002, the other one was Queen's Golden Jubilee 2003. Moreover his name was entered in the Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame 2005. After his adventurous career he currently lives in Canada , Ontario, Toronto, Ellis Park Road. In conclusion, I would like to say that Chris Hadfield is an important member of society because he is going to schools and he addresses youth ,not only he tells them about his life he motivates them that what they want to be when they grow up. Now I took you through Chris Hadfield's journey I hope you
enjoyed.
He was the first Canadian to walk in space and the first to operate the Canadarm. In a different interview he was asked “During the 2001 mission, you became the first Canadian to walk in space. What’s the hardest thing to adapt to when you’re moving outside in space?” and “You were well-known when you went into space the last time, but you returned to Earth a celebrity. When did that hit home?” [5]. It is evident that Chris Hadfield is a pioneer for the new frontier, space. Additionally, Chris Hadfield was the first to operate the Canadarm in orbit. He completed several simulations before using the Canadarm in space. He used the arm to install a Russian docking module [6]. This shows his exploration of new technology that can only be used in space. To sum up, Chris Hadfield was a pioneer for the exploration of space as he was the first Canadian to walk and space and first Canadian to operate the never used before Canadarm therefore showing his significance to Canada.
School in 1977, after that he joined the Canadian armed forces in May 1978. Then for the next two years he attended Royal Roads Military College, Victoria B.C., then he in rolled for 2 year in Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario, he graduated with a mechanical engineering degree. He then pos t-graduate research at the University of Waterloo, Ontario in 1982, then managed to get a Masters of Science degree in Aviation Systems from the University of Tennessee in 1992. Chris Hadfield was 1 of 4 to be picked as Canadian Astronauts from a field of 5,330 in June 1992. Chris Hadfield flew as the first Canadian mission specialist, the first Canadian to operate the Canadarm in orbit, and the only Canadian to ever visit Mir
... on the city of Detroit. When Miguel came to Detroit to play with the Tigers, the city was going through a very tough time. He helped spread the joy of coming to the ballpark and watching a game. By coming to watch the Tigers play, he helped get the citizen’s minds off of their tough times. He contributed to bringing in money to fund programs for the city to get back on their feet. He also contributed through the Boys and Girls program with the MLB. He held camps for young kids, and helped raise money for local schools around Detroit. Miguel is not only a fantastic baseball player, but a contributor to his community and the people in it.
The following book of Peter Kreeft’s work, The Journey, will include a summary along with mine and the authors’ critique. As you read the book it is a very pleasant, symbolic story of always-existing wisdom as you go along the pathway of what knowledge really is. It talks about Socrates, someone who thinks a lot about how people think, from Athens, is a huge part in this book. This book is like a roadmap for modern travelers walking the very old pathway in search of reality. It will not only show us the pathway they took, but the pathway that we should take as well.
Although it may be true that Chris McCandles was stubborn, people should consider that he had family problems, he loved nature and he also had an adventurous spirit. I believe that the motives that led him to the wild were family problems and emotional damage as well as his love of nature and his adventurous spirit. In Chris’s journal it seemed like he had lived for 113 days in that “magic bus” but in his last days he had written that “death looms” and that he was “too weak to walk out”. There are many evidence that connect with family problems as well as his adventurous spirit. As I go on with this essay I will state my theory on why Chris was led into the wild as well as evidence that support my claim.
On a cold winter’s morning on the 28th day of January in the year 1986, America was profoundly shaken and sent to its knees as the space shuttle Challenger gruesomely exploded just seconds after launching. The seven members of its crew, including one civilian teacher, were all lost. This was a game changer, we had never lost a single astronaut in flight. The United States by this time had unfortunately grown accustomed to successful space missions, and this reality check was all too sudden, too brutal for a complacent and oblivious nation (“Space”). The outbreak of sympathy that poured from its citizens had not been seen since President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. The disturbing scenes were shown repeatedly on news networks which undeniably made it troublesome to keep it from haunting the nation’s cognizance (“Space”). The current president had more than situation to address, he had the problematic undertaking of gracefully picking America back up by its boot straps.
The Canadarm is about to introduce its new and improved sibling. Back in 1987, when documents were signed between countries to work towards a permanently manned Space Station, Canada agreed to provide a Mobile Servicing System (MSS). The MSS will be an integral part of the Space Station from the beginning, it will be used in the assembly, maintenance and servicing of the Station. In return, Canadians will be able to have full use of the Station and will assist with its management.

In what could have been Chris McCandless’s last contact with humanity he tells his new comrade, Wayne Westerberg, “If this adventure proves fatal and you don’t hear from me again I want you to know you are a great man. I now walk into the wild” (Krakauer 3). For 112 days Chris lived off the harsh Alaskan land. For anyone who is brave enough to travel on the stampede trail and cross the treacherous Teklanika River you will come across the Fairbanks City Transit System Bus 142. Once a backcountry shelter for hunters, trappers, ranger patrols, and for a short time Chris McCandless, Bus 142 now serves as a memorial for Chris McCandless. Travelers will make the trip to witness the basic resources Chris had at hand and the courage it took to make it as far as he did into his journey. Chris was not unaware of the dangers of the Alaskan wilderness. He was fully informed of the challenges he would face and was confident, maybe even hubristic, that he could overcome them. Non Supporters would argue this makes Chris a fool, reckless, brash, or even border lined unintelligent while in fact it is quite the opposite. Chris was a hero because he knew his differences and embraced them, his ambition and strive for perfection took his life, and he followed his dreams no matter the cost.
For immigrants, reuniting with parents who left them is a huge problem in the U.S. Children who reunite with their parents after many years have a lot of problems with the parents. The parents and children tend to argue, the children have buried anger, and both have an idealized concept of each other. According to Los Angeles’s Newcomer School, a school for newly arrived immigrants which is referenced in Enrique’s Journey, a bit more than half of want to talk to the counselor about their problems. The main problem Murillo, the school’s counselor, says is mostly family problems. Murillo says that many parent-child meetings are all very similar and identical to each other. Some of the similarities are that idealized notions of each other disappear, children felt bitter before going to the U.S., and that many children have buried rage. Mothers say that the separations between them and child was worth it because of the money earned and the advantages in America. However, many children said that they would rather have less money and food if it meant their mothers would stay with them.
Paul Revere's Ride is a collection of historical accounts centering around Paul Revere's midnight ride to warn the countryside of the battles that occurred. The novel is made up of narrative accounts that tell the whole story of the midnight ride. David Hackett Fischer goes to great lengths to cover every possible angle in telling the story. "Fischer illuminates the figure of Paul Revere, a man far more complex than a simple artisan and messenger"(3). By adding different perspectives he allows the reader to see not only the American idealistic point of view, but we get a chance to hear British accounts of these particular events. In this way Hackett Fischer paints an accurate and unbiased picture not only of Paul Revere and his ride, but also of many other supporting historical figures that were important in making these events happen.
Terry Fox has become the poster child of the person who can overcome any obstacle and triumph over any adversity that stands in his way. This is important to Canada because he is a reflection of the character of Canadians that is seen around the world. Terry Fox has given Canada a true role model. Terry Fox has shown the world that Canadians are full with heart and determination. He has shown Canadians, and the world that perseverance will pay off. Terry Fox had all the obstacles lined up and he knocked them down, although the malignant tumor in his right leg finally overwhelmed Terry, he still overcame numerous obstacles. Terry Fox had dealt with the tumor in his leg and he overcame the amputation of his leg. He also managed to train for the marathon of hope even though overcoming a physical and emotional amputation. He also was able to start his run for the marathon of Hope, by an valiant attempt to run across Canada raising money as he ran. Even though Terry Fox did not complete his goal he still lives on today in our currency, stamps, and many more ways. Terry Fox has given Canada some one that they can try to measure up to.
Chris McCandless left his mark on the world and should be respected for being brave enough to challenge himself like this. McCandless went to Alaska searching for adventure and to live off the land. He wanted something more in life. When he went into the Alaskan wilderness , McCandless overcame so many obstacles than the average person wouldn't be able to handle. He was prepared and had all the skills he needed to survive in the wild. McCandless kept fighting against all odds and never gave up on fulfilling his dreams. He deserves more respect and admiration than he got.
“Frankenstein”, written by Mary Shelley, and “The Book of Eli”, directed by Allen and Albert Hughes have many thematic parallels and character archetypes that can be compared and contrasted. One similar thematic parallel that can be compared are the journeys that both the main characters embarked on for one main goal. There are a few character archetype similarities and differences between the two stories. Victor, from “Frankenstein”, was a very brave man considered as an outcast who stopped at nothing to reach an ultimate goal he had created for himself. Victor also very depressed man whose negative thoughts hurt him and bring him down. Eli, from “The Book of Eli”, is a brave man and is also considered an outcast just like Victor Frankenstein. Eli and Victor differ in that Eli is a very positive man who isn’t brought down by anything. Eli has great potential throughout the whole movie. He never gives up on his ultimate goal even though times get rough for him and it looks as if it’s over.
Throughout his lifetime, he has had the good and bad experiences. Sunny has been to Vietnam and Dominican Republic with his family, going to these countries has made him realise that he is very fortunate to be able to live in Canada. He has also had pleasuring moments such as parasailing, scuba diving, zip lining, and Dune Buggying. Equally
