When we were little, we thought the word “Career” was not a big deal, but as a senior in high school, the word has become our reality as we start to finish our last semester. The question we’ve been asked all these years is, what do you want to be when you grow up? But our answer is simple: we don’t want to grow up. As an innocent kid it seemed like the time would never come, but it has. It’s time to get serious and really ponder this question.
Throughout this course, topics such as the transition from high school to college, learning skills, self-discovery, and career exploration have been discussed. Conversations occurred concerning the challenges and benefits of private and public colleges as well as the transition from high school to college. We also talked about our strengths and weaknesses while studying. Finally we talked about the jobs that we wanted, and the jobs we would be good at. During the rest of this paper, I will go into more detail about the topics we discussed; and go more in detail with what I learned.
As we begin to grow up and come to the end of our high school career we must start to begin to start thinking about what type of career we want to be in. It is very important that a person picks the right type of career for them. Otherwise you will be unhappy with what you are doing and will not enjoy it at all. I am not entirely sure what I want my career to be but I have a pretty good idea as to what type of job it will be. I would like to go into the field of a physical therapist and sports medicine, I fell I will enjoy this more than any other type of career just because I already have a lot of interest in it.
Intro Deciding what you want to study during your college career can be a difficult and tedious task. This is due to fact that many young adults coming out of high school are unsure of what they want to do or what path to take career wise. It is also tedious because this requires that these individuals have to constantly try and explore new avenues so that they can find their passion in life. The path I chose to take when coming out of high school was entering the business school at Howard University.
How is a person supposed to decide on a career? How would one know if they would be satisfied with that career for the rest of their life? Carefully analyzing different aspects of a career is a great start. Becoming an elementary school teacher or a dental hygienist are two great options for the work industry. When analyzing these careers one should consider the work requirements, salary, stress levels and the contribution to society.

Even though many people assume they would able to save a great amount of time and get better jobs by going directly to a four year university, it is not a realistic assumption. In fact, there isn’t a bridge to go directly from four years university to a job.
First of all, college gives us a variety of careers. You may want to be a Doctor or an Astronomer. Both careers are day and night different, but that is the beauty of a college education you are given the opportunity to explore new waters. High school graduates that don't move on to college are not given this opportunity, they are forced to choose from menial and odd jobs, that you may not even enjoy. In the article “Importance of a College Education” by Mr. Hobsons the author states “High school graduates

A real education is something that everyone should value, and all of us should strive to live up to our true potential. Contrary to popular belief, heading off to a four-year college to reach that true potential may not necessarily be the right choice for everyone. Vocational training is not only less expensive than college, but it is also a better use of time and provides students with skills critical for their job of interest. In six months, the class of 2014 will put on their caps and gowns and walk across the stage with their diplomas. All of those graduates will be excited to move onto the next chapter of life. One of the most important decisions that any high school student or young adult has to make is deciding what they want to spend the rest of their life doing. Coming into this year I didn't have a clue what I wanted to have as my career. Obviously everybody has their dream job, mine being a pro basketball player overseas, but everybody needs a backup plan if their dreams do not pan out. Recently, I started researching certain careers and taking tests ,such as the WISCareers interest inventory, to decide what career would fit my interests the best. After all the tests and research, I came to the conclusion that becoming a loan officer was what suited me and my interests the best("WISCareers")."Loan officers evaluate, authorize, or recommend approval of loan applications for people and businesses"("Bureau of Labor Statistics"). Being a loan officer is the perfect job for me because they have flexible hours, an above average salary, and a limited amount of schooling.
Choosing a career can be an overwhelming experience, one may be plagued with concerns over making the incorrect career choice, being stuck in a certain field, or splurging on the incorrect major in college. While one has to make that decision on their own, there are certain tools that could help someone make that choice. One tool is career theories. There are many different theories on career choice and development, and they each have valid points. However, the two theories that I found resonated the most with my own experiences of occupational choice and development are Rhoes theories, and Super’s theory. Rhoe’s theory suggests that there is a strong correlation between a person’s childhood experiences, and how to they choose
