Being able to have time to chill can be a wonderful thing, sometimes it can be the highlight of someone’s day. It also may be something that can ruin one’s day. There are many, many, many views on how one word, chill, can be used or what the meaning is based on the context around it. That can include a feeling through your immediate senses ranging all the way to the word being used as a verb. First off, a vast majority of people in modern day society can say that they understand the word chill when it comes to a specific type of feeling. The interesting part is, feeling “chill” can be extremely versatile in itself. I remember one time, I was wearing a short sleeve shirt and shorts that ended right around mid-thigh, when I walked outside there …show more content…
Chill is of a cultural significance due to the fact that people with certain personalities or even just people who catch onto catchphrases that flow well within other phrases and larger instances. Looking at the Urban Dictionary, chill can be referred to when telling someone to “hang out, relax, or stop doing something.” (“chill” Urban Dictionary). Lots of people use chill as an action term or phrase. Therefore, an example could be that people who create riots and protest against people to try to prove their point or beliefs about social injustice and police brutality, should chill. Violent protesting is not a very effective way to get a message across and breaking the law on more occasions than one, causes even more tension between people who really aren’t or shouldn’t be involved. I personally believe that when things such as that occurs, it causes negative attention towards the subject which makes things even worse. This is relevant because this is a topic that is constantly debated in our society today it has been an issue yet, there is no change. Being a chill person, in general, could enlighten the situation just a little bit. Whether the situation be that including ethnicity or it be not being able to get something you want right away,
African American’s still are thought to be discriminated against by law enforcement, according to recent scenarios which have occurred. For example, Eric Garner was seen to have been physically abused by police and many of the public believe this is because he was African American. Though racism is less common today, it is still relevant and apparent in society. Violence is still used by both individuals and law enforcement, as well as as a form of protest in some circumstances. Though there is still some violent-protests present today, for humanitarian reasons this form of protesting has become less common throughout all of the ethnic
Schor states right off the bat that cool has been around for a long time, although the meaning has changed. Cool used to be just another style
One of the greatest feelings in the world is going against the grain of society and the universal fear to be different than the rest. Whether you are sparked by your own fire, or someone else’s, breaking the status quo to be diverse enhances progress. Oscar Wilde once said, “Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man’s original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made, through disobedience and through rebellion.” This quote sparks interest due to disobedience often containing a negative connotation. However, in this quote disobedience is honorable, and to be called disobedient is a compliment. According to Wilde, disobedience is beneficial and without it, social progress could not be made. Without
In the interesting novel Be More Chill, we go into the life of a typical nerd who like any other wishes to be cool and known among the popular kids. He's a tall scrawny boy with really bad dandruff and who sits quietly in class every day. Everyone talks around him thinking that he doesn't hear what he or she says and just ignores him but the truth is he hears every word. Especially a girl named Jenna who talks so much crap about her best friend to her other friend Anna. Whenever he gets made fun off in any way he has a sheet of paper in which he puts a tally next to the incident. But day after day in his math class he only stares at the girl in whom he is deeply in lust with but she doesn't know. Not until one day when he hears about this super computer chip that u take as a pill and it stays in your head telling you what to wear, how to talk, and who to talk to (it has conversations with you in your head). Jeremy steals his Aunts valuable beanie babies and sells them on eBay to collect the 600 dollars he needs to be able to pay for this highly effective pill. It does a magnificent job completely transforming the nerdy Jeremy into a stud that every girl wants to get with. But yet unfortunately things don't always come out as planned as the "squip" leads Jeremy into a world of lies, drugs, sex and violence. Worse yet he never ended up with the girl of his dreams, Christine.
"We Real Cool" is a short, yet powerful poem by Gwendolyn Brooks that sends a life learning message to its reader. The message Brooks is trying to send is that dropping out of school and roaming the streets is in fact not "cool" but in actuality a dead end street.
Relax. No, really! Just as one family member’s stress can rub off on the rest of the group, one person’s commitment to letting go of day-to-day anxiety calms the group. Your family has packed and traveled and arrived, so now...take a moment to breathe in deeply and savor the moment. Smile. Laugh. Exhale.
Black culture is the epitome of what defines America’s understanding of cool. It is difficult to define what it means to be cool without stating the influence or impact of the culture. The idea of cool developed as a social attitude implemented by black men during slavery which they used as a defense mechanism in order to cope with exploitation and injustice. It is now spread by hip hop culture which has integrated itself into mainstream society. As a result, black culture continues to play a vital role in America due to its innovative and creature nature.
“We Real Cool” poem proves you can give a lot of personality and insight to a group of characters in eight lines. With the lines “We real cool, We Left school (Lines 1-2)” it tells us that these kids left school to chase after their perception of cool. The poet reveals the fact that these boys are also uneducated, rebellious and arrogant. This poem will be the prime example of quality.
The want to relax and to be entertained has always been a part of human nature. It seems that business has always been able to find ways to fulfill this want. But throughout the history of the United States the job of achieving this task has not been easy. More attractive ideas and inventions were constantly knocking out the old ways to enjoy life.
When one thinks of meditation, what comes to mind? Does one think of group of 1970’s hippies sitting in a circle singing about peace? How about relaxing music being played? How about trying to form one’s body into a pretzel-like shape? What if meditation has nothing to do with the background music being played or what position one’s body is in? Meditation is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “the act or process of spending time in quiet thought” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/meditation). Meditation is just simply sitting in a quiet room and thinking about one’s life. The act of meditating is much simpler than many people think. Through deep concentration and relaxation, meditation becomes an altered state of consciousness.
It’s easy to think that mindfulness is a relatively new fad, with companies like Google inviting Zen masters to launch their Mindful Lunches. Maybe we think it’s a new need in today’s fast-paced life or because of a modern desire to be more productive. Mindfulness and meditation, however, are mentioned in ancient texts such as the Bible and have been around for thousands of years.
One of the main themes of “We Real Cool” is wasted youth, which is hinted at its title. The title is a sentence using slang and improper grammar, which could reflect the wasted potential of black youth, particularly young, black adolescents, who either skipped school or dropped out completely in order to enjoy their freedom in the streets. Instead of using “really cool,”
Close your eyes for a minute and imagine what I’m about to tell you. Imagine yourself on a boat slowly swaying back and forth, feeling the wind in your hair, the smell of the salt in the air. Sounds relaxing, right? Now imagine heading to a nearby
When I feel stressed, I listen to my favorite music on my iPod or play my one of my favorite computer games. This is my way of zoning out and just forgetting about everything around me. It relieves my anxiety and the stress of the day, and it helps prevent burnout. In addition, I need to make sure I take time for me to be with friends and not forget to
We're all familiar with yoga and meditation. Meditation has the ability to calm down the entire body and bring all the processes under control. The focus being entirely on relaxing the body, works wonders.
