The excessive collection of items and an inability to discard them, is known as hoarding. When hoarding of food occurs, there is a serious risk of the living conditions becoming overwhelmed with contaminated foods. Children often engage in habits regarding food, but the habits will generally fade over time; however, when the child stockpiles or hoards food, it becomes more than a quirky habit.
There are several reasons why a child may hoard food, the first being they may have been deprived of food at some time and are worried the food supply will run out. When they become concerned about there not being any food, they will also become fearful of being hungry. Hoarding food to these children, means they will have something to eat should they become hungry. A child who hoards food will often take the items from cupboards and/or refrigerator without their caretakers knowledge. The food will normally be found hidden drawers, closets, under the bed and in pockets.

Hoarding is an addiction that is both socially debilitating and alarmingly enigmatic. While compulsive hoarding is classified as it’s own respective disorder, it is also a rather extreme form of addiction. Societies are founded on various social norms. Norms can best be defined as a set of acceptable attitudes and practices by a given society. These norms however are found to vary from one society or cultural setting o the other. Deviance on the other hand is simply when one does something that goes against the set societal norms. Deviance is gauged on a scale of attitudes and behavior contradicting to acceptable social standards (Samuels, 2012).
There is no specific reason as to why people do it, but there are factors that may lead to a person becoming an animal hoarder. If someone, for instance, has gone through a very traumatic event in their life they may find a way to cope by being with an animal or two. As time goes on that animal or two becomes twenty, twenty-five, and even more in some cases. If a person has an attachment disorder of some kind and is not treated properly it can lead to a case of animal hoarding. They will become overly attached and will believe that they need more around them at all times.
Growing up, like any normal child, I had to follow certain rules set by my parents. Both of my parents are very resourceful and economical, and as a result, food is never wasted in our household. From a young age, my sister and I have been taught to take onto our plates only what we can finish; if we fail to do so, we are scolded without fail with one variation or another of the “think about the poor children in Africa who have nowhere near as much food as you do” lecture. My mom always tries to use as many parts of our food as she can, not very much unlike how the Native Americans used every single part of their meat in order to honor the revered spirits of the animals they hunted; when we have watermelon, instead of throwing away the tasteless
Animal hoarding is an issue in every division of society around the world (Donaghey 2011). Whether rich or poor, there may still be an animal hoarder living right next door (Donaghey 2011). In some situations there may be obvious signs that a person is a hoarder; however, others live seemingly regular lives to the public eye and the problem is growing. Animal hoarding is a growing problem because of the lack of understanding of the issue and lack of action.
The United States is known as the wealthiest country in the world. But, there are many people that can't afford to buy food for their families, many are also homeless. “While hunger affects people of all ages, it's particularly devastating for children even short-term episodes of hunger can cause lasting damage."(“Child Nutrition Programs") Child hunger in the United States is caused by poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, and food shortage; however there are many solutions to this problem like FRAC strategies, food banks, summer feeding programs, and backpack feeding programs.
In order to impede the epidemic of childhood obesity, the actual causes of the problem need to be evaluated and dissected. Obesity in children is becoming a huge problem in American society. In the past three decades, the rate of overweight children has increased by 300%. This is an alarming rate that is only climbing higher. Every member in society should take steps to becoming healthier. This would help the present generations as well as future generations to come. The lifestyle of Americans keeps us too busy to be a healthy society.

This does not only apply to food, it also applies to merchandise such as cars, houses, clothes, and other material items. Many people do not need those ten sports cars in the garage of their mansion. Furthermore, “The poll found that 63% of respondents are concerned about the amount of food wasted in the United States… the respondents were shown facts about the environmental, economic and social impacts of food waste, 60% said the impacts were more than they expected. Knowing the facts, a full 73% said we should all try to make it a high priority to limit food waste,” (Leibrock). Ultimately, many people realize how much products are being wasted, and their impact on the world. Also, a large percentage of people believe something should be done to prevent how much resources are

Nowadays, food security is a potential problem in our life. "ninety-seven percent of parents in the US think that childhood eating habits determine children ’s health for their lifetime, but only 17% say their child’s diet is very healthy, according to a recent national poll by the C.S. Mott Children’ s Hospital" (Chicago Sun-times). Besides, the problem influences the whole world.
