Most children grow up playing card games. It starts out with card games like Go Fish and other matching games and turns into strategic trading card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh and pokemon. Kids usually stop playing these types of card games. Some children want to continue to play the games as they grow into their adult years, but is faced with obstacles like peer pressure and parent’s ideals and worry whether they should do what they want or do what they feel is expected of them. Anything in life could be a productive lifestyle including things from one’s childhood such as a simple card game.
Card games is looked at as something that is done in someone's childhood. It is natural for someone to grow up and have a change in their interest. Society has views on what a certain age group should do and how they should act. Most teens want to hang out with their friends, go out on dates, play video games, go to parties, work, and/or focus on their studies. As an adult it is expected of you to find a career and build a life around it with a family. There is no room for childish things such as card games. It is a natural change in focus as one gets older. The problem is the way people live their life is not the same as the next person.
People enjoy playing card games. Some like the strategic part of the games, others like the artwork on the cards, and some are just good at it and don’t want to stop. This does not make them different from other kids, but they just show a different interest than others. Due to this a type of peer pressure is put on that kid who likes to play card games. A trading card game have similar characteristics of many things that is applauded by people like sports and dealing with money, but not seen as a great thing one should spend their time doing. All lifestyles has their own positives and negatives. One lifestyle could be better than another, but people do better when they’re doing something they enjoy to do. The only way that work is if you do your best at whatever it is you want in life. It is good to follow your own road and not a path that is laid out for you by someone else's ideals and standards because you have your best interest in mind. Whether it is card games or anything else nothing you do should be considered a waste of time. In the end the choice is yours.

“Stop it!” a mom screamed at her 13 years old son who is misbehaving with her in public. They are in a game shop trying to buy a game that her son wants as a reward for his academic achievements at school. But then why does not Mom wants to buy it? “Son, this is not for you. This game is for people who are over eighteen,” Mom explained. “But Mom, my friends always play them. When I went to Tommy’s house last weekend, I played it also. And it was fun!” Son declared. This is a typical argument I have heard between parents and their children as I used work in a game store before. The parents of our society are not conscious of the violence a game can produce. Also many parents do not pay attention to the ratings in the video games because they suppose games are made for children so why would it be inappropriate or violent (Jenkins 1). Besides, these parents are not aware of the reality that game industry can and will design any game to attract the players whether the player is an adult or kid. During a personal interview, a Psychology professor strongly claims violent video games do affect a child’s psychology, and therefore it can lead the child to be aggressive and destructive. In addition, game addiction harms the children by many factors. For instance, it can make the child to be anti-social and stubborn. And as we are moving forward with modern technology, video game addiction is increasing in the society causing it a controversial critical topic for the parents and researchers to take notice of (Wagner 1).
At first I did not see the harm in indulging myself in the games, but once I realized that it was becoming a staple game within my friend group I tried to back out. However, they would convince me that “What are you going to do if you do not play? Just sit there?” or that, “Everyone else is playing, just play.” I felt that since I would be the only one wanting to refrain from participating, it made me seem somewhat of an outcast. Many kids like Tommy, who spend most of their childhood and adolescences emerged in imaginary lands rather than dealing with the real world at hand, become socially anxious and have low self-esteem later in life. Instead of thriving with a career and family, they relapse back to the same virtual interaction they had as a child. They float through life barely able to support themselves or result to living with their parents. Adulthood seems to them a mere task they must complete in order to continue their gaming. Excessive videogame play for children and adolescents cause social anxiety, depression, and aggression because more time is spent alone engrossed in dynamic storylines and complex situations than outside building face-to-face relationships and other healthy social skills that better prepare them for their future.
The types of games that children play change dramatically compared to early childhood. In addition to the activities that they already play, they start to strive for a challenge. Middle childhood is the time when children acquire skills such as reading and arithmetic. During this time children start to play games that are complicated and rule oriented. Because of these changes, children begin to play games based on strategy such as playing cards and other games that test their mind. They play games such as Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh. These card games require children to count, remember, and plan strategies. By playing these games, children begin to plan consciously, coordinate actions, evaluate their progress, and modify their plans and strategies based on reflection and evaluation.
Children develop normally when they are exposed to different types of play that allow them to express themselves while using their imaginations and being physically active. According to the Center for Health Education, Training and Nutrition Awareness, “Play is child’s work”; this is true because it is a child’s job to learn and develop in their first few years of life, in order for them to do this, they play. Not only is playing a child’s full time job, the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights listed play as a right of every child. Through their full time job of play, the children develop emotionally, socially, physically, and creatively. Children need to participate in child-led play in order to facilitate healthy development of their minds, body, and creativity.
In the 21st century, society is noticing a drastic change in the new generation. Going outside has become a thing of the past for some and many parents struggle to get their children to stop playing video games. Submersed in the world of violent video games, society has started to scorn the idea of them. Though video games seem to have a lot of drawbacks, other parts of society encourage the development of video games. While many believe that video games are detrimental to society they actually hold many benefits for all age ranges.
Video games are electronic sports which involves user interface and user interactivity. They generate a visual response which helps to provide excitement and entertainment. Video games are played on computers, televisions, or any kind of device with a display screen. People play video games for fun and also because some games are more productive and useful. With growth in technology video games have become very popular in children. Majority of games are not designed for educational purposes. However, there are some games that are made for educational to teach ethical/political issues to teenagers through a familiar medium. Teenagers also have to know when to play game and when to stop. It is a wrong time to play games if a teenager hasn’t done his/her homework. And this will result in parents asking their son/daughter to study. There’s no problem of talking about the game with friends. However, there are some people who cannot come out from the “game world” because they are not attached to the real world and ending up killing two policeman in the real world like the incident in Alabama, US in 2003.
