All parents in the world understand well that the children need to be educated in proper way and as soon as possible, especially in childhood and school age. Parents are the first and the most important teachers for children beside the teachers in school. As we known, the behavior and attitude of children in future is a result of education from their parents. I had a friendly talking with some foreigner parents in past, and I have found some main different points of the way to educate the children between the Vietnamese parents and Foreigner parents.
I recognized that the parents in US, who mostly agree for the children goes to work part-time after learning time in high school while the Vietnamese parents who never want their children go to working with any reasons. They always think that the student will put more focus on how to earn money for private spending, and obviously, they will lose the concentration on study in school. Lareau also reported that many working class and poor parents feel that educators hold the expertise, and usually fear doing the “wrong thing” in school-related matters (Lareau 357). What this usually leads to is trying to maintain a separation between school and home (Lareau 358). Working class and poor parents typically are deferential while middle class parents can be demanding toward school personnel (Lareau 358). The parents as the role models for their children that means many children will do what their parents mostly do, hence, is really important that the parents teaching their child. According to Kean, (2005), the parents with higher education have positive influence on children’s outcome, cause the majority of parents who are very educated might influence their kids though beliefs and behaviors, that will lead children and youth to a positive outcome (Kean, 2005). Parents’ educations have an influence on children in many different ways, although the parents’ expectation can affect children as well. The Wall Street Journal published an article by Victoria Ruan that was titled “In China, Not All Practice Tough Love”. In her article, she briefly discusses what we think of as typical behavior between children and parents in China. She describes the brutal relationships between children and their parents when it comes to schoolwork and being the best possible student in the class. Ruan states how in years past children have been pushed in their studies by their parents to the point in which children start to lose their individuality and love for “not so important” hobbies. According to Ruan, chinese parents don’t just push their children to extremes in order for their children to be as smart as possible, the main goal of this “tough love” mannerism is to ensure that their children have a happy and successful life. However, Ruan believes that in recent years we now have less reason to believe in these stereotypes about chinese parents and their children.
Chinese parenting is competent at times but there are other times where it is more suitable to follow other forms of parenting such as the Western style.These findings have important consequences for the broader domain of parent-child relationships. Whether it is Chinese parenting or Western parenting the relationship between family members is crucial. According to Amy Chua, Chinese parenting is more effective in helping the child attain a better future through the parents’ interests, while Western parenting style reflects mainly the interests of the child.
The theme in working and poor class parents is that they are not as attentive to their kids as middle class parents are. However, this does not mean that they do not love their kids. Vietnam, a small country with a large population, has to make do with the lack of technology. It stresses hard work rather than the use of machines. Children are encouraged to do math mentally rather than depend on calculators. As a result, the Vietnamese people do not consider it a sacrifice that they should lead a hard life. Also, their education emphasizes morality rather than independent thinking. Therefore, most Vietnamese children would never think of leaving their families before marriage, unlike the Americans, who would leave for college right after high school or move out of their parents' house to live with friends. The Americans would also prefer to make their lives as easy as possible, which means that rather than adding mentally, they would turn to an adding machine or a computer. When we were little our parents had to guided us because we did not have the ability to live by ourselves. Sometimes, for some people, their parents taught them or they sent them to school to develop their knowledge. Parents helped their children to do their homework. They encouraged them to continue their early education. Parents help their children to build confidence in their life. A child with confidence is able to has a positive attitude in school. Also, help the child to be positive in his leaning. Many children have problems learning in school because parents do not give them support. Instead, they tell them that they are not good nothing. Also, parents help to build ways of learning at an early age. When we were, little we did not know how to study, how to read. Our parents found the best way to learn the basic education.
