Practicum # 5 Physical changes A few of the physical changes I have noticed in the children are many. Some of those include cooing, standing, and walking. The first incident was when the first child arrived in the morning. After mom left O, the caregiver placed her on the floor and was talking to her, the child cooed back and was laughing. I never heard O laugh before, also when the caregiver placed her on the floor O was reaching for toys and bending her body almost in half as she reached for the farthest toys away from her, then she sat up effortlessly. O was not doing this at the beginning of my practicum, she could not bend and reach for the toys. The next child I observed was standing holding on. B was using one hand to hold onto the furniture and then he would let go with one hand and bend and …show more content…
reach for the toys that were on the floor. He was playing with the toys on top of the furniture and while he was doing that he would let go with both hands and lean into the furniture for support.
However, he did prefer to use at least on hand to hold on. B was also able to go from a sitting position and reach for the furniture to stand and hold on. When I started this practicum B only sat and tried to reach for items on the floor. This physical development was very easy to discern as it is quite the milestone for him. The final physical development I observed was when G was playing with toys on top of the shelving unit. He was holding on and playing with toys and would toss the soft tools onto the floor. I was nearby and picked up a toy but held it a distance from him. He turned and reached for the toy but I held it just out of his reach. I knew this child would stand on his own and wanted to see if he’d take a step towards me. He did reach for the toy and then stepped two steps over to where I was holding the toy. He grabbed the toy and was unaware that he was standing and walking. Another caregiver was a short distance away and picked up a toy for G to walk and reach for G took about four steps and was over to the other caregiver to retrieve the toy. The caregiver was so excited and clapped and cheered for G as those were
his first steps they seen him take. The caregiver was very encouraging to G and she praised him profusely as he learned to walk. A developmental milestone I observed is M starting to try and say words. The caregiver was reading a book to M and while she was reading M was sounding like she was repeating the words from the book. The caregiver encouraged this as she prompted M to say the word. The caregiver said that is right M, say “cookie” M tried the word again and the hard /k/ sound and long /e/ sound was pronounced by her. The caregiver then reinforced her pronunciation and said yes that is right, cookie. The caregiver spoke slowly to M and pronounced the word properly for M to hear again.
In brain science today, there are four noteworthy perceived child rearing styles: legitimate, careless, lenient, and tyrant. Every one conveys diverse qualities and realizes distinctive responses in the kids which they are utilized on. It is essential to remember that each guardian tyke relationship is diverse, so there is not one beyond any doubt fire approach to child rearing. Analysts have found four sorts of child rearing styles. Actually, research has uncovered that child rearing styles can impact a tyke 's social, cognitive, and mental development, which influences kids both in the adolescence years, and as a grown-up. This is on account of kids growing through various jolts, connection, and trade, which encompass them. The way that folks
In this assignment I am going to describe a child observation that I have done in a nursery for twenty minutes in a play setting. I will explain the strengths and weaknesses of naturalistic observation through the key developmental milestones based in Mary Sheridan (2005) check-list and provide a theoretical explanation to support the naturalistic observation.
Lots of observations were collected whilst the children were making their maps and working together to find the word treasure, so I have highlighted just a few to address the overall understandings of the findings.
From the perspective I have at this stage in my journey in the early childhood education field, I would like to share what I have come to value and believe in regards to early learning and care by looking at my philosophy statement. To begin we will look at the statement and highlight three key features and find out why they are important to me, then we will see what they will look like in my practice, and lastly we will examine these ideas closely by looking at where they originated. By taking an in-depth look at my philosophy statement we will better understand the motivation behind my practice which I hope to continue to refine and refresh as I gain more knowledge and experience.
Child Poverty has been an ongoing issue throughout the world for decades. The problem of child poverty affects every part of the world. Poverty has pervasive consequences that can last a lifetime. In this paper I will discuss poverty and how it impacts the lives of children and include the lasting influence of child poverty in adulthood.
Children’s development grows in developmental stages and is also contributed by their own cultural settings. Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky both contributed to the understanding of children’s psychology. Piaget and Vygotsky have theories of development that I agree with. Piaget’s theory was that children go through four different stages during their development. He believed in the influence of learning from others (Woolfolk, 43). I compare my cousin Jayel to the chart that Piaget has created. According to Piaget’s Chart, Jayel is in the sensorimotor stage because he is within the age of 0-2 years old. The baby is learning through his senses of seeing, hearing and even touching. He has even begun to imitate the people around him as well. Jayel
Were you patient for your child to start doing things on its own, such as walking, talking and exploring or were you pushing your child to accomplish these things sooner? Yes, I was patient for Christine to start doing things on her own. I never push her to do anything but I did encourage her to do things I knew she was capable of doing.
What is childhood? To some its the upbringing and quality of life given to the child within the first several years of the child's life. In its simplest form, childhood is classified as the age span which ranges from birth to adolescence. During those years of childhood, most children go through various different physical and cognitive changes. According to the famous cognitive developmental theorist Jean Piaget, in psychology, childhood consists of four separate stages of development. Those stages are sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational, and formal operational stages. The sensorimotor stage extends from both to when the child first starts to grasp the concept of language. In the pre-operational stage is when the child starts
Child development and growth observation can be quite fascinating considering the uniqueness of each child. As children grow, they normally develop and acquire new skills whether complex or not. The abilities experienced by each child progresses differently that is it depends on the nurturing given by the parent or guardian and on the characteristics that they inherit. Proper development and growth of the child occurs when basic needs are provided by the reliable adult guardians, including such things as love, food, encouragement, shelter and warmth. The essay evaluates child development and growth through observation conducted by myself on my nephew. The essay will include physical development, general health, emotional development,
Since the beginning of time, fathers have had a profound effect on their child’s development. Over the years, the norm for traditional family dynamics of having a father figure in the household has changed drastically, and so did the roles of the parents. It is not as common as it used to be to have a father or father figure in the home. In this day and age, women are more likely to raise children on their own and gain independence without the male assistance due to various reasons. The most significant learning experience and development of a person’s life takes place in their earlier years when they were children. There are many advantages when there is a mother and father combined in a
A pediatrician is a doctor that deals with the treatment and management of a child’s injuries or sicknesses. Their patients include children from birth to the age of 21 years. Pediatricians treat many different illnesses like infections, birth defects, injuries, cancers, and diseases. Some more of their medical assistances would be a child’s diet and exercise. They are not only concerned with the physical issues at hand but also the mental problems. Some mental issues include social problems, suicidal thoughts and feelings, depression, anxiety, and developing issues. A pediatrician must have good communication skills in order to be able to make the patient feel more comfortable or if the patient has issues describing the source of the pain. Also, a pediatrician must be able to communicate well with an emotional or stressed guardian so that they can still understand what is happening with their child.
The child that I selected to observe through the course of this semester is a Caucasian female. Her name is “R.” She was born on April 24, 2013. She is currently 10 months old, but will be turning one year old at the end of the semester. “R” is a child who is very active. She has an independent but outgoing personality. At this stage, she exhibits uncertainty with strangers and other people she recalls but has not physically seen in a period of time. Some of “R”'s favorite activities include tossing objects, mirroring actions and movements, music, a...
Early years setting such as Rainbows End Nursery follows a curriculum made for all early years settings therefore for the setting there are legal requirements that they have to meet. These include the requirements for young children to carry out most of their learning throughout play and play based activities. Likewise this links towards gaining knowledge from play towards their five areas of development; social, emotional, physical, cognitive, language and communication. For example filling up jugs with different measurements will allow the children to improve within their mathematics with these materials to understand concepts such as ‘full, empty, half full etc.
Suppose your 21 year old child or best friend came to you and asked the question, "How do you know if you are ready for marriage?" How would you respond? If it will help, you may interview two other people and list their answers in your paper. As you consider the factors predicting marital success, look at your own past relationships. What factors, such as background, personality characteristics, and relationship characteristics, might have predicted the quality of your relationship? Were any particular characteristics especially important for you? Why?
There are many different definitions of children’s literature and even varying definitions for literature and children! Before the nineteenth century, very few books were especially written for children. Since then, changing attitudes towards childhood and children’s development, along with the increased sophistication of print technology, have led to the development of children’s literature as a major industry. There is, however, no simple, straightforward definition of children’s literature that can be applied with equal validity at different times and in different contexts. Just as concepts of ‘child’, 'childhood’ and ‘literature’ have changed over time, so too have definitions of ‘children’s literature’. It is not a simple matter to define ‘childhood’ or ‘literature’. Some writers maintain that children’s literature differs from adult literature in degree only (Lukens, 1995); others (Lesnik- Oberstein, 1996) maintain that it differs in kind, that is, that the word ‘literature’ when used in the context of ‘children’s literature’ cannot necessarily be related in any straightforward way to the word ‘literature’ as used in other contexts. Thus, for example, Bottigheimer argues that children’s literature is “an important system of its own”. To complicate matters further, there are those who maintain that to be included in the category of ‘children’s literature’, writing must be of ‘good quality’. Thus, for example, Hillman would exclude from the category of ‘children’s literature’, writing that is “stodgy,” “too predictable,” or “too illogical.” Precisely how one determines whether a work meets these extremely vague criteria largely remains an open question.
