In this new age of Information, the Internet has made all types of information readily available. Some of this information can be very useful, some can be malicious. Child pornography, also known as Paedophilia is one of these problems. Any one person can find child pornography on the internet with just a few clicks of the mouse using any search engine. Despite webmaster's and law enforcement officials' efforts to control child pornography and shut down illegal sites, new sites are posted using several ways to mask their identity. The Internet provides a new world for curious children. It offers entertainment, opportunities for education, information and communication. The Internet is a tool that opens a window of opportunities. As Internet use grows, so do the risks of children being exposed to inappropriate material, in particular, criminal activity by paedophiles and child pornographers. Many children first come in contact with the Internet at a very young age. Some children become victims of child pornography through close relatives who may have abused them. Some children become involved with chat services or newsgroup threads. It is usually through these sites that they meet child pornographers. Children may be asked to send explicit pictures of themselves taken either by a digital camera or scanned from a polaroid. The pornographer will then post the pictures on their web site, sometimes hiding them through encryption, steganography or password protecting them using a javascript or applet. Certain efforts have been made to control child pornography through legislation. In 1977 the Sexual Exploitation of Children Act was put into Legislation. (U.S. Code : Title 18, Section 2251-2253) The law prohibits the use of a minor in the making of pornography, the transport of a child across state lines, the taking of a pornographic picture of a minor, and the production and circulation of materials advertising child pornography. It also prohibits the transfer, sale, purchase, and receipt of minors when the purpose of such transfer, sale, purchase, or receipt is to use the child or youth in the production of child pornography. The transportation, importation, shipment, and receipt of child pornography by any interstate means, including by mail or computer, is also prohibited. The Child Protection Act of 1984 (U.S. Code : Title 18, Section 2251-2255) defines anyone younger than the age of 18 as a child.
The internet provides ground for individuals to create, access, and share child sexual abuse images world wide at the click of abutton. Child pornography images are readily available through virtually every Internet technology including website, email, instant messaging.
The adverse subjects of child pornography and sex tapes have consistently been a controversy in the world. Today, there constantly seems to be a new sex scandal or pornography crime occurring. Sex tapes of celebrities are regularly circulating and they appear to be a popular topic to discuss. This was true when singer, R. Kelly, allegedly participated in a sex tape with a young girl. Kelly went to court on an account of child pornography instead of rape or sexual abuse.
In early 1995, a research team at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania released one of the most revealing studies into online pornography. The value of study titled "marketing Pornography on the information superhighway" is realized mainly due to its massive sample size. There are several issues about pornography on the internet that were highlighted by the study. The research team surveyed 917,410 "sexually explicit pictures, descriptions, short stories and film clips". Of special intrest were usenet newsgroups, which are basically electronic forums. It was found that 83.5 percent of the digitized images stored on these newsgroups were pornographic pictures. This finding indicates that there clearly is a substantial amout of pornography on the net. However, this doesn't answer the question, how easy is it to find? In the same study, The student used a search engine called "Altavista", typed in the keyword "sex", and 616,156 matches were returned. Of the first 20 only 2 links were pornographic sites. Next, on the same search engine, the keyword "tits" was typed in and 69,920 links were returned. Of the first 20 of these links 17 were to pornographic sites. After looking into one of the sites listed, it was clear that is was used for exchanging child porn. This shows that it is likely that a minor would come across these sites because of their juvinile desire to look up dirty words.
Pedophilia is a sexual preference for children. There are several laws that prevent adults from having sexual relations with minors, but this of course does not stop these crimes from being committed. Sex offenders and pedophiles believe that they are in love with the children that they have sexual relations with. They claim that they can help children discover their sexuality. There is even a group to defend the rights of pedophiles called NAMBLA, The North American Man/Boy Love Association. NAMBLA was founded in 1978 by David Thorstad, they are headquartered in New York CIty and San Francisco. Persons convicted of the production of child pornography are given a minimum of 15 years. Section 3559 (e) states that persons convicted of a second certain sex offense will be imprisoned for life. Because the victims of these crimes are left traumatized and often are unable to continue to lead normal lives pedophiles should be in prison for life before they can become a repeat offender.
...hey want, some individuals misuse the internet to make profit. The internet has shown that just about anyone can post what they want in order to make a quick buck. Technological advanced devices and social media networks, such as Facebook exposes explicit images of children in erotic positions that encourage sexual activities. In addition, it displays that anyone that owns advanced technology or has a social networking account, has easy access to see graphic portrayals of minors. Therefore, technological advancements make it possible for any one running child prostitution and pornography to conduct a business. Furthermore, the misuse of the internet permits predators and pedophiles to take advantage of children and cause them to be physically, psychologically, and sexually abused. This leads children to feel worthless, mistrust others, and fearful to ask for help.
I think the federal law against child pornography is more important. The health and welfare of a child (or other human being) is more important than attorney-client privilege. If a doctor knew that his patient is going to kill someone, he also has a duty to try to stop it. An attorney also has that same duty.
In today’s society, you can find just about anything using internet search engines such as Google, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc. There tend to be many hidden illegal sites that consist from anything of piracy, child pornography, drug trafficking or even human trafficking. Although, when most of these sites are found, they are immediately taken down, but these sites are constantly being put up that it is difficult to take down every single site.
Child pornography has been present in society for centuries, but has only recently become more accessible through the development of the printing press and subsequently, the technology of the Internet. Until the mid-1990s, "illegal child pornography [had only] involved depictions of actual children engaged in sexually explicit activity" (ACLU), and virtual pornography had never before been an issue. This was before the Internet. The October 1996 Child Pornography Prevention Act was put into place with the purpose of updating then-current child porn and sexual exploitation laws mainly because of on-line transmission and creation of child porn. The Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996 revised the previous child pornography laws, said the American Civil Liberties Union, by outlawing any "computer-generated depictions of children engaging in sexual conduct," or what is now commonly known as virtual child pornography. Virtual child pornography also includes any images presenting people who appear to be minors or adult bodies superimposed with the faces of children, often making it difficult to tell if the material is of a real child or not. These new forms of child porn were becoming prevalent on the Internet at the time because it was easily accessible and not yet illegal. The act therefore prohibited the possession, transm...
Sexual abuse of children has become a public concern only recently in the United States, young girls and boys have been used to satisfy adult sexual desires for most of our history. Castration of boys, fondling, forced genital or anal intercourse, and sale for prostitution were common through much of Western history. "It was not until the sixteenth century that laws were enacted in England to protect girls and boys under the age of ten from rape and sodomy." (Knudsen,106) p In the nineteenth century, after the exposure of the "white slave" trade, in which young girls were sold or kidnapped and forced into prostitution, the concept of "age of consent" developed in England, defining the age at which a girl could consent to sexual intercourse initially at ten, then at twelve, and finally, in 1885, at sixteen."(Knudson,106) Over the past ten years , the availability of literature on sexual assault has increased significantly. However, clinical data are increasingly suggesting that boys may be at equal risk for sexual victimization, since they are the preffered targets of habitual pedophiles and victims of child sex rings.
Pornography is one of mankind's most revered, respected, and repulsed pastimes. Adults can use pornography to relieve stress, enhance their sex lives, or simply as a means of entertainment. One of the easiest and most popular ways of obtaining pornographic material is over the Internet. The only downside is that the Internet is accessible to children; therefore, pornography is accessible to children. While adults should have limitless access to Internet porn, minors should be kept away from this concubine.
This piece of legislation classifies an image that "appears to be" or "conveys the impression" of a minor engaging in sexually explicit acts as "virtual" child pornography. Such images include a photograph of a real child that may be scanned, replicated and manipulated by computer to create a sexually-oriented photo, or a wholly fake child that may be generated solely by computer graphics.
We live in a society that thrives on technology; it is pervasive throughout our daily lives. Everyone seems to have an iPod, cell phone, or laptop with them at all times. We have become a completely connected society with our Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook. It is hard to argue that technology hasn’t improved our lives through medicine, communication, and entertainment. Our children face an increasing number of dangers on the Internet. Sexual predators, cyber bullying, and pornography are the most prevalent dangers our children face on the Internet; the best way to protect them is to be an involved and informed Parent. Sexual predators on the Internet are a topic that has received lots of attention from the media in recent years. Shows like Datelines: To Catch a Predator have highlighted the issue and shown that it can happen in even the smallest communities. For predators the Internet provides a sense of security and anonymity. They use chatrooms and social networking sites to find and gain the trust of vulnerable children. The anonymity of the Internet and its global nature provides a large degree of security for prosecution for Internet predators. Law enforcement agencies face some atypical challenges in attempting to prosecute Internet crimes. Local police departments rarely are equipped to handle Internet predators due to the nature of the crimes. Laws have also been slow to keep pace with changing technologies. A Lack of physical evidence or crime scene is just two of the challenges facing law enforcement agencies in the prosecution of cyber crimes. The burden for investigating Internet crimes often falls to federal agencies because of the potential interstate nature of the crimes and their broad resources. Cyber bullying is ...
Pedophilia. It is another form of child abuse which has always been an issue and now has increased in the last decade; as bad as it is, I am more interested in the why more than anything. What lifestyle and childhood did they have as a child that may have created the horrid sexual preference in children and is there any likeness they can change. I will be taking a look into the minds of pedophiles everywhere using pathos and logos. Maybe dive in a bit deeper into the minds of a pediophile using the information I have collected from articles I have read. There is a possibility something was missed, trying a new tactical strategy will be trying to approach the issue sympathetically in the hopes of better understanding them.
“The global market of child trafficking is at over $12 billion a year with over 2 million child victims” (“Stop Child Trafficking Now” 1). This statement from the article “Stop Child Trafficking Now” describes how serious this crisis is nationwide. Child labor, illegal adoptions and child prostitution are the three forms child trafficking typically exists as (“Riverkids Project” 1). There has been a rising number of Cambodian children being trafficked for sexual exploitation and forced labor because of poverty, unemployment and lack of education; however organizations such as the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative Against Trafficking (COMMIT) are trying to raise awareness of this crisis.
Norma fell victim to what is known as revenge porn, which is a subset of nonconsensual pornography, or the “nonconsensual distribution of sexually explicit photograph or videos online”, frequently accompanied by identifying information. In many cases ex-partners are the perpetrators, but other instances of nonconsensual pornography include hacking or material recorded without the victims knowledge . Nonconsensual pornography can cause terrible damage to the victim’s personal reputation, career, and well being. Victims have reported that in addition to online harassment, they have experienced offline forms of harassment, including “threatening phone calls, house call, mail, [and] stalking.” Entire websites, such as myex.com, are dedicated
