While watching this video, I kept saying to myself “something needs to be done.” Not only is the price of seafood going to increase, but people are being put out of jobs. The Crabber mentioned how much change he has noticed in a span of over 30 years. I wonder what could happen in another 30 years if regulations are not put in place to help the bays rebirth. Yes. I do believe the bay is making a rebirth. It was mentioned on page 206 the Chesapeake Bay Foundation brought awareness to this conflict in 1967. I personally believe the concern for the economy is what pushed politicians and community members to get in board with the CBF. This is one fact which helped put regulations in order to help speed up the recovery process. It was
also mentioned how the Bay Area chefs are being forced to import seafood from other countries. When looking at the United States as a whole, the price of seafood will increase due to the decline. Solution 1: Not dumping waste into the Chesapeake Bay The video discusses how companies are taking waste and turning it into fertilizer. Solution 2: Informing people of the pollution levels The CBF brought awareness to the dangers affecting the bay and managed to get regulations put in place to help the bay recover.

The seventeenth century was a time of great change in colonial America. Virginia, the first colony in the Chesapeake region, was established in 1624. Plymouth, the first colony in New England, was established in 1620. These two regions developed in distinct ways, but were intertwined because of their ties to England. The Chesapeake colonies were established for economic reasons, as the Virginia Company of London looked to mass-produce cash crops in the new world. The New England colonies, however, were created to be a religious haven for those who opposed the English church. Both regions developed economic and political systems that catered to the desires of the respective populations and the geographical conditions.
Looking at the early English colonies in the Chesapeake Bay region, it’s clear that the English had not learned any lessons from their experiences at Roanoke. Poor planning, a bad location, unrealistic expectations, flawed leadership, unsuccessful relations with the local Indians, and no hope of finding the mineral wealth the Spanish found in Mexico, all contributed to failure. The first colonists in the Chesapeake region were not only ignorant, lazy and unambitious, but their attempts were hampered before they had begun. However, a solution to these problems was found in a single plant: tobacco. Nevertheless, this cash crop ultimately created numerous problems for the colonists. The ignorance and indolent acts of the Chesapeake colonists to unsuccessfully restore the colony by themselves led to the demise of the colony as a whole especially regarding the planting of agricultural goods for food.
During the 1600's, many people in the American colonies led very many different lives, some better than others. While life was hard for some groups, other colonists were healthy and happy. Two groups that display such a difference are the colonists of New England and Chesapeake Bay. New Englanders enjoyed a much higher standard of living. This high standard of New England's was due to many factors, including a healthier environment, better family situation, and a high rate of reproduction.

I would never call a body of water “dead” especially one that has been so instrumental to the development of this area. The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States. It holds 18 hundred trillion gallons of water. The Bay is about 200 miles long, and is home to more than 17 million people. The importance of the Chesapeake Bay is incredible; two of the United States’ five major North Atlantic ports – Baltimore and Hampton Roads – are on the Bay. (Chesapeake Bay Program, n/d). The Chesapeake Bay provides shelter and food to all living things in the surrounding area. Both, people and animals, use the Bays resources every day and have done so for centuries.
The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway is a large body of water that is used by commercial and private shallow draft vessels. The waterways is maintains by the US Army Corps of Engineers for 1,088 miles between places like Norfolk, Virginia and Miami Florida. The AIWW is authorized to 12 feet deep and 90 feet wide through land cuts and 150 feet in open water areas (capca).
For many years now scientists and researchers have been paying their attention to the bay. Millions of dollars and hundreds of hours have been spent to return the bay to its glory. The non-profit organization that I researched is the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. They have spent the last 40 years educating people who live near the Chesapeake Bay or near one of its tributaries on things that need to be done in order to create a safe habitat for the aquatic and terrestrial life living near these waters and creating healthier, cleaner water within the bay.
The following statements are the Seafood Watch’s message to the public: the “program helps consumers and businesses choose seafood that’s fished or farmed in ways that support a healthy ocean, now and for future generations. Our recommendations indicate which seafood items are best choices or good alternatives, and which ones you should avoid” (Monterey Bay Aquarium Foundation 2018). Even though this program focuses on the general safety, fishery management practices, and sources regarding which seafood is sustainable, they also keep track of potential chemical poisoning of seafood (such as mercury, lead, and other chemical levels). This allows the public to become aware of HAB effects and other causes of toxicity within different seasons of harvesting. The Monterey Bay Aquarium also performs conservation measures and spreads awareness about the other pollutant, which will be mentioned later
To fish or not to fish is a personal choice. The fact that the oceans are being overfished is a growing concern for individuals, organizations, and governments throughout the world. In this paper I want to discuss the effects of overfishing on the restaurant industry, and possible solutions to solve the problem. Fishing is an ongoing source of food for people around the world. In many countries it is a food staple in their everyday diet. In more modern societies eating fish has become a sensual experience, and not just for the wealthy. It hasn't been until population explosions in the last century that the demand for seafood has led to more effective fishing techniques and technologies. Now the demand for popular fish like the salmon, tuna, sea bass, cod and hoki, which is the key fish in McDonalds filet o' fish, is diving wild populations to dangerously low levels. The methods used to catch the amount of fish demanded by the industry do not leave sustainable populations in the wild. In an attempt to preserve the fish population, governments have set limits on the minimum size that may be harvested and how many of each may be taken. Boundaries have been set up saying which areas can be fished and which ones should be left alone. A number of smaller fisheries have gone out of business because of the limits imposed by the government. This leads to even less fish being harvested and brought to market. Therefore the amount and varieties of fish at markets are smaller and can cause shortages for wholesalers and restaurants. Some restaurants will no longer have the variety on their menus that they used to enjoy. If a restaurant thrives on its seafood menu they may be unable to cope with the shortages and will go out of business. In the ...
